PARTHIP YOGESH's Review On Hindustan Institute Of Maritime Training - [HIMT College], Chennai

Remarks :

College is doing their best to make us a disciplined cadet.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course consists of 3 year fully residential.First year we should learn about science subjects including physics maths, electronics, computer science and additional 2 to 3 marine subjects.3 year is divided into 6 semesters.at the end of each semester there is final exams.on campus placement is there, but not 100% placement.we get ship visit at Chennai port, once in a year.

Placement Experience :

Placement is good those who are bright in studies and without arrears.Compnies like Goodwood shipping, PIL etc used to come normally

College Events :

There are technical events happening yearly in our college like technovasion. Also there are other seminar and cultural festivals used to have on maritime days and other important days.Normally cadets from other Maritime training institute from overall india used to come to our college

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Normally the fees for this course is expensive globally india it will be above 3 lakhs.also similar in our college. It will be feasible comparing with sallery we got onboard.college doesn't provide transparency about fees structure. They used to ask next semester fees 4 months before the completion of present semester.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I have taken educational loan, from second year onwards. It is through SBI.we need to apply to the bank using the fee structure from college and our request letter

Campus Life :

Campus life is good.It is a training institute so we used to have lot of activities like morning drills, Marchpast, muster etc. There is no girls in our campus. Workshop and seamanship labs are good. Students are from all over India.no such descrimination is there.

Hostel Facilities :

Our institute is fully residential. There is no PG at all. Hostel facility is average. Some bed also will be having bed bugs. students itself need to clean the rooms. Also there will be Daily inspection by wardens.

Alumni/Alumna :

Yes they are helpful. We used to connet through social medias.Their videos and photos in ship used to motivate us.

Admission :

Through IMU CET.I Opt this course to become officer in merchant navy.It is after +2.We should be in science stream, need more than 50% mark in physics chemistry maths and English. Our college is affiliated by Indian Maritime University under Govt of india.we just want to qualify Imu cet to get admission in our college.

Faculty :

For marine subjects mainly master mariners are there and chief engineers. There sre other non marine staff to teach other subjects. Quality is good, Qualifications of faculties are they should be officer in merchant navy. There are certification courses like STCW, Firefighting drills etc.

Remarks:

Good Infrastructure and Teachings.Teachers in our college are well-trained and experienced to teach us. They also provide audiovisual classes for better understanding and encouraging us for seminar classes. This course helps us to gain practical knowledge as faculty members explain concepts with a practical session. Semester exams conducted at the university are good, and the pass percentage is 85%.Our college is located in the middle of a highway, and it has huge coverage of the area. It has A, B, C, D and E blocks with canteen. Our college provides both girls and boys hostel, B.Ed block, MBA block, nursing block, a huge playground with garden. The quality of the food served is good, and weekly once we get non-vegetarian food. We have a library with Wi-Fi access.

Admission:

Most of the students got placed in our course. The highest salary offered is Rs. 20,000 per month and the lowest salary offered is Rs. 7,000 per month. Many top recruiting companies visit here. Almost 40 students got an internship through the institute. We all are selected in all position in companies.

Placement Experience:

The students are eligible for the campus interview from the completion of 5th semester which is, they are eligible to take campus interview after successful completion of half of their 3rd year of the course and they will be generally held in the month of November and December. Every year various companies have been selecting students from MCC such as Deloitte, Cognizant, Infosys, HCL, etc. Each year around 40 to 50 students will be placed out of 80 students of that current batch. The students of MCC has been getting quite higher packages when compared to other colleges. Students from MCC has been getting a package around 8.5 lakh per annum which is a quite higher package as the other students will have to have a 3year of experience to attain this package. Around 60 - 70% of students getting placed every year. I have being palnned to do masters in the same college.

they do not have any placements for the program since this program is usually for the students who either want to write and companies do not go for both so they prepare students with interviews so that we can get jobs in school later

Remarks:

The college has good in the language before some few years back. And still now it’s somhow good in relevance in the studies but sometimes much more pressure and extra works that was not much necessary in the departmental curriculum. One bad things is the college didn’t listen to the students voice and opinions and students were considered as money. Much more pressure and once president said is finalised and no options. There is many stories within the students that cannot reveals but most of all they wait for the graduation.

The college is good overall, but there is definitely work to be done in terms of exams, curriculum, boy-girl ratio and interactions. some of the rules which college has imposed is not common sense and that needs to be changed.
