Life after getting in IITD

Remarks :

My institute is no. 1 in India and this year it was ranked 27 in the employability rank list globally. Seriously, I didn't think I would ever reach this point where I would have the option of choosing between IITs. But oh boy, I did. I asked everyone about whether I should take CSE in NIT Trichy or NSUT or DTU or lower branch in top 3 IITs and everyone said the same thing. If you have reached this point you should take full advantage. Take the badge that you have earned. And so I took IIT Delhi in Industrial and Production Engg. I was getting Civil chemical etc too but I have an interest in coding and I wanted to pursue it, so I took a branch with low academic pressure. I preferred it over other institutes because of its reputation, and because it is in Delhi, my home state.

Course Curriculum Overview :

First-year is tough. Especially without actually being there which would have relieved a lot of stress. Even in production and industrial engg.Academic pressure is the same as other branches. A lecture usually has about 120 students. But in tutorial classes, there are only 30 students. All the teachers definitely are extra qualified. Though all are experts in their fields, not all are good teachers. If you have a non-English background you will face problems in the beginning. The first exam is about 5 weeks after the first class. There is a quiz almost every week. Sometimes even 3 in one week. There are 2 minors and one major in one semester apart from quizzes and tutorials and labs. Getting a dassi (10 grade) is difficult. Everyone here has been a school topper, national-level athlete, state topper, Olympiad winners, etc., and people do fail here.

Internships Opportunities :

Most internships start from the third year. Many students get internships from top companies with excellent stipends. Many students do projects in university with professors which are paid too. Some also manage internships with foreign professors. However, you have to put in the effort to find opportunities yourself.

Placement Experience :

The placement is awesome. If you have skills you'll get hired with a package above 15lpa. In my branch seniors say, if you take the trouble to learn something, anything, you can expect an average package of 18lpa in the product-based company or 15lpa is a service-based. The highest package you all know goes in crores. If your skills are good definitely you can achieve more. Many students go for higher studies too in IIT itself or in foreign universities. If you wonder now why so, the answer is because the highest qualification in India is "US return". Alumni connections help a lot. Many students go for UPSC preparation too.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Coming from a low middle-class background it is expensive here. Most students come from well-to-do families which puts peer pressure too. Even the seat acceptance fee of 35000 was too much for me. There is a 1 lakh tuition fee for students having an income of more than 5lakh annually, 33,333/- for students having income between 1 and 5 lakh per annum. And the full exemption from the tuition fee for students having income less than 1 lakh and SC/ST students. SBI and Canara bank provides education loans. It covers institute charges and hostel charges. Mind you only 35000 is given once for equipment which may include a phone and laptop. There are various Merit cum means scholarship schemes. If your JEE rank is good and income around 1 lakh you'll probably get covered.

Campus Life :

The annual fest is called Rendezvous which everyone looks forward to. The annual tech fest is called Tryst. This gives life lessons and you must visit here. NSS(national service scheme) or NCC(national cadet corps) or NSO(national sports organization) is compulsory in the first year. There are ample opportunities for everyone to get indulged in sports. Even if you are a complete noob you will get the opportunity to learn. There are many inter hostel inter IIT and inter everything tournaments. Something or the other keeps happening. If you are interested in anything you'll find a club related to it. There are several boards that students manage by themselves. The library is huge. Your textbook needs can be fulfilled here only. You can get books issued too. Several resources are made available too like Microsoft office, Grammarly access to journals, and many others.

The college placement record is superb. The placement was the main reason for me to be part of the college. The college management and placement committee work together to improve the placement quality and standards of the college. The college manages a record of 100% placements. The highest placement offers were around 55 LPA and the average placement record was around 18 LPA. I also received a placement offer of 21 LPA.
