Remarks :
IEM Kolkata is ranked as the best private Engineering College in Eastern India. I knew a few seniors who passed out from IEM and few who were studying there, and they motivated me to take admission in IEM for a better career. I also visited many websites like collegedunia, etc. for being assured. The college provides 100% placement which is very rare and this was the key factor for getting admitted in this college. IEM is known for its discipline and lab facilities. The only drawback is its infrastructure which will surely improve in the coming years. The admission process is pretty similar as for any other state. WB-JEE is conducted every year for the college seeking aspirants. After the results are declared, we have to apply for counselling which can be done using both WB-JEE rank and JEE Mains rank. On the basis of preference and ranking, the college is alloted and the students take admission.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I am pursuing B.Tech in ECE. Electronics has always excited me since I was in school. Physics was one of the most interesting subjects so I thought of going ahead with the same. Besides that, ECE students have a career in both government as well as the private sector, so that was a plus point. Most of the faculties are doctorates in our department and the faculty-student ratio will be approximately 3:20. The theories and practicals go hand in hand with the regular assessment. This keeps up the pace of cutting our load during the exams. The academic calendar is issued before the beginning of every academic year and everything goes as per the calendar so the students know from well before to pull up their socks. Passing the examination is never difficult if you know the syllabus and have gone through it thoroughly.
Internships Opportunities :
Since almost all the students get placed in the 7th semester. The companies themselves call the students for internship in the companies itself. The roles offered are of trainee or intern and the stipend offered is 12000 on an average. Other than this, the 2nd and 3rd-year students can also apply for training or internship in summer or winter break. I myself did my training in BSNL and Indian Railways. The projects on which the intern's work are generally associated with the role they are offered during placements. They basically teach us about the role and the work we will have to do in the coming years which proves to be beneficial. Some companies offer only internship if the interview is cleared but it gets converted into a full-time job on basis of their performance during the internship.
Placement Experience :
Students become eligible for placements when they study in their 7th semester. But some companies do conduct some online tests for 3rd-year students on the basis of which they may offer them internship which can be converted in a full-time job later. There are many MNCs which come to our college for the recruitment like TCS, Capgemini, Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, Keysight, Sankalp, GreyB, NRI, Adzooba etc. The placement for 2021 pass out students is still going on but till now, the average package is 4.5 lakhs per annum. 100% of students get placed from the college other than those who want to opt for higher studies. After I get the degree, I am planning to get a job and work hard enough to keep growing and proving myself in the company.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
According to me, the fee structure is quite minimal as compared to other private institutions. Per semester fee is approximately 52000 without including the hostel fee. The fee structure has remained the same for the past four years i.e. for the time period I am studying in this college. Financial assistance is also provided by the college for entrepreneurship, research papers, start-ups etc. Since the college offers 100% placement. There are many big multinational companies which come to our college for the recruitment like TCS, Capgemini, Cognizant, Infosys etc. Other than them, there are few other companies also which offer good stipend and salary like Keysight, Sankalp, NRI etc.
Campus Life :
Our college conducts both cultural (IEMPACT) as well as technical (INNOVACION) fest every year in the month of January. These fests give an opportunity to showcase our talent in any and every field like robotics, gaming, entrepreneurship, model-making, quiz, drama, dance, painting etc. Our library contains a wide range of books besides the books of the subjects. We can issue any book of our interest and the library is opened 24*7 throughout the year. Every classroom has projectors and blackboards for the ease of teachers as well as students. Besides studies, a wide range of extracurricular activities are conducted in the college. Sports like badminton, cricket, table tennis, basketball etc. Conferences are conducted on regular basis for the students to outsource their ideas. Clubs like quiz club, dance club, music club are very active throughout the year. There are many societies also which are managed by students and teachers who are responsible for moulding the students.
Hostel Facilities :
I lived in a PG. The room was well furnished with tiles, curtains, bookshelves etc. Every student gets a bed with mattress and pillow, a cupboard and a table. The fooding, electricity and water bill was included in the fees itself. In my PG, the food was very good as compared to other hostels. On weekdays, we got two meals a day and on weekends, 3 meals a day. The rent was given on monthly basis and it was located in sector 3 besides the IEM girl's hostel campus. The PG is near to the market, big bazaar, parks and hospital. I had a good time living here and I have been staying here for the past four years in the same PG.
