Decent College with amazing academics

Remarks :

SRCASW or Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women is one of the best colleges of Delhi University. The fact that it is not as popular as some others are simply because it's an off-campus college. I joined this college in the year 2020 and this year is truly full of unexpected happenings. But if there's one thing I can be positive about it is perhaps my choice of college. Due to this pandemic, currently, our college is closed and so for a typical college life I ain't got any idea about that but I'd say that talking to my seniors, getting to know them a bit I can gauge it's a pretty strong community here. There are all the societies you'd expect of DU and a plethora of opportunities. Teachers are great and some of them are super helpful as well. Other than this there's this add-on language course that's a true gem I'd say! It's basically a foreign language course and German, French, etc are available. If you are planning to go abroad this will prove very beneficial to you.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The reason I chose this course is because of my keen interest in Life Sciences and Medical Sciences. This course is an excellent course if you are someone who's very interested in Biology but not necessarily want to become a medical practitioner but study all the subjects. For me, my interests were diverse and not really narrowed to any specific subfield of biology. So, this course provides a lot of scopes to experience a lot of things all at once be it as diverse as Bioinformatics, Biophysics to the typical ones such as biochem, pharmacology, physiology, toxicology. It's a very dynamic course and there are a lot of subjects you get to study which can definitely be a plus point provided you are ready to delve deeper. The teachers know their subject matter well and some of the teachers are highly qualified some even alumni of the reputed AIIMS, JNU, and DU amongst others having experience of over 15 years. Owing to pandemic we haven't had exams yet but the thorough study would help you excell

Internships Opportunities :

Oh yeah, there are a lot of internships available for sure. But most of them are not paid internships, even so, you do get work experience out of it. There are paid internships as well and you can land up in job roles easily enough if you have sound skills as demanded by the job. Job roles such as content creator, publicity manager, copywriter, etc are some of the most common job roles you can expect. However, with the college, I don't think there are as many internship opportunities. You just need to be actively involved with the process to land up a satisfactory one.

Placement Experience :

The placement cell has become better over the years but yes there's still a long way to go. The thing is there are just not as many jobs you are eligible for just after completing a degree in any of the natural sciences. If at all you come across any such jobs they are just not related or relevant to your degree and if you're okay with that then you can go ahead. But personally, I'd prefer going for higher studies and then getting into jobs just as so many others do. If because for some reason you'd prefer going to the job directly after graduation I'd suggest you be proactive and search up for internships and jobs from earlier on. I think you are eligible for placements from your 5th or 6th semester that is during your third year of a degree but you are eligible for internships right from the 1st year itself, that is if you're proactive. As for companies I have heard some companies do come in for example Amazon, Eris Life Sciences Ltd, TCS, etc but relevant jobs to your degree may not be given

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Honestly, the fee of our course is a bit on the higher side as compared to some others offered by DU but that being said it's totally worth it. The quality of education is excellent and DU is one of the most prestigious Universities in India so you definitely don't regret the amount spent. There are plenty of opportunities you do get to avail but I believe these are more dependent upon your efforts than the college's credit. There are internships and scholarships you get but you need to be active after it. I think there are some scholarships that can help you with your fees if you are eligible for them. Other than this there are scholarships you can avail if you participate in specific things or take up specific courses. For example, if you take an add-on foreign language course you are eligible for scholarships that can fund your studies abroad as well. About on-campus jobs, I am doubtful if they exist but yes if you talk to your professors maybe they can help you with that.

Campus Life :

Well really haven't had any so to say "feel" of college life yet but there are a ton of societies that you can join. Societies are the highlight of life at DU and not only are they fun but they also give you a great opportunity to pursue your hobbies or passion and take it to the next level. The annual cultural fest our college is known as Karvaan and am positive it's pretty fun as well. But obviously, if you are comparing fests at any off-campus college to any campus college there's a lot of difference there. However, being in DU it's quite easy to get into any of the campus college fests. If you are someone who's always had the dream of having a typical campus life it might disappoint you to some extent but really just get over it! There are all kinds of opportunities out here as well in every field sports, dance, robotics, eco-club etc whatever you can think about. There's our departmental tech fest, plexus where a lot of experienced people from our field come and interact.
