Ritwick Pal Singh's Review On Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Institute Of Management Science - [BIMS], Kolkata

Remarks :

I choose this college coz, firstly it comes under a recognized university which is Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology and secondly it's a B-school. Things that I liked was first the faculty it's really nice and secondly this college focuses more on academics which is also a good point. There are also a few extra curricular activities like industry visit which is very informative. Not a lot but a little bit of sports is also there. I opted for this course coz I had it in my head from before that I had to get into the buisness line so for me it was an easy decision and I even feel that B.B.A is still among those course which can lead you to a decent job after your under graduate degree if you wanna do one. So obviously for me it's good coz I wanna have some job experience before I go for my masters. This college even helps you with your placement through the placement cell that they have. So overall it's good.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is nice. The college is mostly academic focused so obviously course curriculum is really good. In the first year some basic subjects are introduced so that the base of every student is cleared and strong and then slowly as the student shifts from one semester to another he/she comes across various new subjects, so all I can say is that the process is good like starting from basic and then going to advance. Once the students were taken for an industrial visit which was really good and amazing and was very informative. There are also a few corporate sessions which held on normal college days which are also very useful. The faculty no doubt is really good and helpful.

Placement Experience :

The placements are good as much I know but honestly I can't say anything about the under graduate course but yes you do have the placement cell where u can apply and the college would help you out with it. Job opportunities are also good and the end it depends on your result and the skills that you have and how good a communicator you are apart from all this the college helps you out as much as it can.

College Events :

There are several events that takes place during the fest such as we even had a pubg tournament and a fifa tournament which was really nice and there was also a buisness quiz and we even had debates and several other academic related events. There's also been a cricket tournament among the departments. All these events were among the departments. The college also allows their student to take part in other college tournaments. The college fest also holds events which are among different colleges.

Campus Life :

You get to play all kind of sports including indoors as well as outdoors but there are not a lot of tournaments held so that's something that I dont like. Yes, the classes are equipped with A.C and wi-fi, I mean you get access to the college wi-fi. The library nice not that big coz it's a buisness school so it doesn't need a big library but the library is nice you get to read or issue almost all the books even the old ones which are kept nicely in good condition. The computer lab is nice you can do all your technical stuff like making a document or getting an emergency printout, the computer lab is good. Then you even have a communication lab where you'll be taught how to present your self infront of people when you're giving speeches or explaining ppts. Then there's even a common room where you can play indoor sports like carom or table tennis, etc.

Eligibility depends on the companies requirements. Usually in the final year you start preparing for interviews. Our placement cell was very active and it tried its best. TCS, Berger, PWC etc etc visited our campus. The packages are not known to me very surely, so would avoid quoting one, but take ballpark around 5lacs, which is pretty impressive considering the job market for non-engineering freshers. Majority of the students are inclined towards higher studies and government jobs, and the cell arranges for their preparation as well, and quite reputed ones. RKM is known to have a strong history of students getting top government jobs. Those who wished to have job, not all, but many have got offers. Although still I would say there is room for improvement.

Course Curriculum Overview:

BA.LL.B is a professional degree course. The course is actually consist of two degrees, BA and LLB. The syllabus completes a vast field of various statutes. There are various applications of the statutes in professional world. The curriculum makes forge a student into a proficient lawyer. But every coin has two sides. The syllabus covers a lot but the authority doesn't update the syllabus thus it losses it's relevancy in different places. The legal system is changing frequently to maintain it's relevancy but the syllabus doesn't update at all. There are many topics which are not so much relevant in the daily situation. Yes, it is obviously necessary to gather knowledge from depth but it becomes quite useless in the real life sceneries. The Evidence act, Interpretation of statutes, Jurisprudence are the hardest part of the course in my opinion. Some topics are quiet difficult than others but not as hard as the mentioned topics.
