Remarks :
Indian Institute of Rice Research is the obvious choice when it comes to researching in genetic improvement of rice crops and their grading and testing. I am glad to be working here for the practical exposure I get here, as well as for the faculty.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is not rigid, and there is a focus on attending seminars, workshops and making regular field visits. Apart from that I review articles and books, and write research articles for journals.
Placement Experience :
The institute is dedicated to research and does not have a placement cell, nor is the need for it felt. Most of us want to continue as researchers, and some want to join the academic field as professors, and we get trained for it.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Obviously no fee is payable for a PhD course. We get a research fellowship, which is decided by the university as per the government and UGC guidelines. The stipend is received on a monthly basis for the fixed research period.
Campus Life :
There is not a lot of thought on extracurricular activities that are not related to academics or research. The institute arranges regular seminars and workshops along with field visits. There is no discrimination on personal background.
Admission :
The Indian Institute of Rice Research invites applications for researchers and research scholars for its ongoing and flagship projects. I applied online, and was invited for the panel interview. I qualified and was accepted as a PhD student.
Faculty :
The faculty is impressive, hardworking, dedicated and knowledgeable. They are specialists in their fields and very approachable. You can approach any member of the faculty, even apart from your supervisor and they will help you in your work.
