Remarks :
The college is overall good providing a rich learning experience. However, the college management needs to handle things in a more prudent manner. There must be a certain level of modernization in the thought process of the entire system.
Entrance Preview :
I took the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination to in which I got a Rank of 1084. I chose to study at Jadavpur University as it is among the top 10 colleges for Engineering in India.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is traditional covering good aspects of the subject. It gives good areas where one can research. This was one of the reasons why I chose this course. It provided good job opportunities as well as research opportunities. The course covered Material Sciences as well which provide a vast area to research and come up with new materials for practical applications. However, the course should be updated more regularly.
Internships Opportunities :
No. In our year we went for internship but mostly they were without any stipend. However, this was changed from the next year with some stipend being offered by the University.
Placement Experience :
The Placements and Job opportunities are quite good. Almost all the students sitting for placements get a job offer. Companies come from various sectors and apart from the core sectors, other industries also offered jobs to the students. However, the job offers given is highly segregated across the departments which is true for other institutes as well.
College Events :
The University had both Technical and Cultural Fests and they are quite popular in the region. The Cultural Fest had a more than 30 year history. The technical fest was relatively new but it was getting bigger and bigger with every passing year.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure was quite easy on the pockets. This was mostly because the institute is a state university and the education is subsidized.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The University provided various scholarships based on both needs and merits. The scholarships were provided both at department and university level.
Campus Life :
The campus life was quite vibrant with many clubs and avenues to pursue various areas of interest. The university provided various sporting facilities. The gender ratio was also not that bad but diversity was a bit limited as the entrance was through state entrance exam.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is strong but there was scope of increasing the same. The network is mostly department wise and they are quite helpful in helping out the students and activities in campus.
Exam Structure :
The Exams were held in every semester along with class tests being held from time to time. The overall schedule was not that hectic for the students and gave the students opportunities to pursue their other interests as well.
Faculty :
The faculty was highly qualified and had great knowledge of the subjects. The faculty had high degrees and were pioneers in their respective fields. Some of them generated great interest in the course through innovative methods. With the use of humour, sharing of general and historical knowledge and practical applications of the theories that were taught.
