Hansraj College - [HRC], English Honors

Remarks

College was OK but it's vision was constrained I think by it's inherently conservative Arya Samaji lineage.

Entrance Preview

My 12 grade results saw me into the programme. Frankly, with a missionary school background, I shooed myself off the 'St.' In St Stephens, and Hindu College did not sound right. So I chose Hanaraj, because folks said, of not those two, than this one for sure.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

English honors was a challenging programme. Back in those days no body had a first class in English from Hansraj. I was the first, the pioneer, to get a first class in the subject. The course taught deep analytical skills and the faculty was sharp and exacting.

Internships Opportunities

Our program did not require internship. The oberoi group, the Sriram group, and Barros LCV manufacturing companies came for those who needed to intern.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placement was good and wrote independent of discipline. Back then hotel management was a big draw and the best hotels recruited people from my discipline.

College Events

4

There was the annual festival. Plus spic macay programs. Many classic singers performed on stage. The world meditation center was inaugurated, an interesting multi religious spiritual exploration center.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It was a government college funded by the UGC at the heart of the University of Delhi. Totally affordable. There was an annual fee commoner bit it was not much

Fees and Financial Aid

Not college, but DU students were aware of scholarships going around, especially Inlakhs. I received a scholarship for book purchase on account of my academic performance.

Campus Life

2

Campus life was not bad. Theatre was a big thing. Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar, was a year junior. He honed his acting skills while in Hansraj.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel was basic. I stayed in it. Did was above average by hostel standards. But the hostel seats were woefully short of demand.

Alumni/Alumna

The sumo network exists, but is in and off. There needs to be a solid alumni platform cutting across colleges to put together meaningful networking opportunities.

Exam Structure

Exam structure was stressful. The trick was to crack the roles of the game. Want good enough that you are bright and knew your stuff. Crushing the code was significantly important.

Faculty

2

Apart from a few rather dull and old world teachers, most were up to scratch and challenging. Social sciences require deep theoretical rigour. The ability to year meaning out of abstract propositions is a difficult skill. Good teachers help you develop that skill. At Hansraj I was privileged to be taught by faculty that had such skills.

Course Curriculum Overview:

the curriculum is decided by delhi university, economics wing and is followed by all the colleges of du, although few topic are often irrevelent which teachers tend to skip. i do feel that curriculum is pretty old and they should introduce new topic which are more related to reak=l world and give us real life experience not just bookish knowledge which is irelevent. they should also ask for students input related to their curriculum, teachers sometimes tedn to just do book reading. internal exmas are taken frequently and difficulty is 3 out of 5

Course Curriculum Overview:

It is a good course. I went for it mainly because I am preparing for UPSC CSE (pretty common around here). In that context the course is helpful, and also for those aiming to enter research, academia, museology, archaeology etc. However there are not many placement opportunities and for most it would be better to pursue masters later on. Teaching methods are inclusive, both english and hindi medium students can comfortably study. However both students and faculties have some complaints regarding the curriculum changes under NEP such as the sequence of courses in each sem.

There's a very active placement cell in my college. They conduct placement drives, webinars and workshops. Both the jobs and internships are offered. The best package was of 2024 offering 23 Lpa and the average is around 6 Lpa.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course is rightly designed. Plus the teachers often suggest books that can be read from library regarding course topics. The library is very nice here. I used to study in the library for long hours. The exam notes and everything is available at the photocopy shop that's inside the college. Writing this review really made me miss the college more

Placements definitely stands out as passive placement cell of the college is too good. They are quite aggressive and keep attacking us with getting ready for placements. As top corporate house like Big 4 and top Indian conglomerate also comes to our college for placements.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Initially i took this course beacuse i filled it as a backup for coming into delhi university but now i can say that the course is very interesting and it is practically applicable in daily life. Tho the theory exams are quite difficult and subjects like advance mme where max students fail exist but then also it is doable and has market value

Placement Experience:

The college has a placement cell which comes up with lots and lots of internship and job offers throughout the year, you get multiple new job opportunities every week but the campus placement is not all that great, B Com courses have somewhat decent placements. the college doesn't push very much or try much to get students placed, you're on your own.

Placement Experience:

Generally, after BA no one is placed and even if we apply for a job we don't get a good package. So, students generally go for masters or some other courses through which they can get placements. Talking of college placement and internship cell we don't have very good facilities as very limited companies are there for recruiting students. Many students don't even get the internship. This is a major negative point of college.
