Remarks :
The college is really good, especially in the sense that it doesn't burden you with lots of academics. It gives you enough time to practice whatever you like, whichever field you like. This is perhaps the best part along with the modern infrastructure of the college which is rare in most government institutions.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Course Curriculum is good. It has a lot of focus on research, not only in the Fundamentals of Computer science but also on a bit of electronics, physics and electrical systems. Proper labs of required subjects are conducted in a regular and systematic manner. The labs are very well maintained, with comfortable seating arrangements and are all air conditioned unlike most Government institutions which is a big plus. The lab incharges are helpful and the lab assistants are knowledgeable. The whole curriculum of each program can be found at this link : https://www. iiitm. ac. in/index. php/en/academics-final/methodology/58-courses-of-study We have 2 minor exams (1hour each) and 1 major exam (2hours) through the course of the semester for each subject. There is 1 to 1. 5month gap between them. The exams do not put undue pressure on the kids and are designed in that manner. The syllabus is healthy and not very hectic. The college allows kids to work on things they like by giving them due time and not making classes schedule hectic throughout the semester.
Placement Experience :
The placements are good and on the rise year by year. Various companies visit the campus for placements as well as internship. Also, the good thing is that the visits are nicely spaced so that you get time to study and improvise more rather than in most other colleges where almost all companies visit the campus on same day or week and you are not left with good opportunities after that in case you don't get placed. So, this allows a good time for you to regain your state and take your time. Amazon, Flipkart, Microsoft, GoJek, HCL, and a lot of other companies visit. A good placements is almost assured.
College Events :
Our college celebrates almost every cultural festival that you can think of. Students from different religious and cultural and societal backgrounds take up the responsibility to organize the festivals that are dear to them and make sure that all the students of the college are aware of how these are celebrated. You won't miss home during festivals, thats for sure. Apart from this, institute also officially organizes AURORA (cultural fest), INFOTSAV (techno-managerial fest), URJA(intra-college sports fest) and TWARAN(inter-college sports fest).
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The college offers full tuition fee scholarship to 10 students of the batch in the name of MCM (Merit cum means) scholarship. Students need to apply for this in their first sem and the top 10 candidates on the basis of culmination of JEE MAINS score/rank and 12th percentage are awarded this. Apart from this, regular fee waiver for SC/ST is applicable as per the government laws since this is a government college. Loans are provided by the banks (Bank of India) has it's branch within the campus. So, it's a hassle free process to avail loans.
Campus Life :
The gender ratio is around 4:1 (Boys to Girls). Students from all corners of India are present here. Infact, students from other countries study here too. There is a good harmony among students from all background, race, culture and ethnicity. At no point will you feel alienated or discriminated. Every students knows every other students in their batch at least, and almost the same can be said about inter-batch interactions. That's how good the communication is between people here. Like I said above, each festival of each culture is celebrated here. There is a huge sports complex, football, basketball and cricket ground is present. Inter college and intra college sports fest happens every year with participation from IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other private colleges from all over india.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is strong and only building further. The college has a alumni network which is 20 years+ strong. The alumnus are working in almost all sectors, in the biggest of companies and are occupying higher positions that you could think of. They are really helpful, especially in your final and pre-final year when you are looking for research/internship/placement opportunities.
Admission :
To get admission to ABV-IIITM, you need to appear in JEE Mains. Since, this college is a centrally funded autonomous government institute, it takes part in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) which takes place together for admission to all NITs (National Insitute of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), and other GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Insitutes which are not NITs or IIITs, but still are government funded either fully or partially). Once you appear in JEE Mains and secure any rank, you need to apply for JoSAA counselling by filling in the choice list of your desired institutes and branch in the order that you wish to join. Once everyone fills in their choice list, several rounds of seat allocation happen in which students subsequently either lock whatever they got in that round, or even have to option to wait further to get a higher choice that they filled. After a few rounds, final freezing of the choice that you got must be made, post which the student needs to appear in person to the college that they got and confirm their admission by paying the required fee. Even after all this, if some seats remain vacant in the above institutes, another round of counselling takes place which is called SPOT round, however it is not guaranteed always that this round will take place. It depends on the number of seats remaining vacant. Please note that the admission counselling for IITs happens separately on the basis of JEE Advanced and not JEE mains. Altogether the admission process seems fair and practical and gives a fair chance to get what you desire. If in case you get ABV IIITM, the process in the college is very simple and straightforward. They won't waste much time here for your admission. Also, they have some rooms available in visiter hostels where you can stay with your parents for a very nominal charge.
Faculty :
The faculty of the college is good and knowledgeable. They are also very approachable and friendly. They make sure that you are not hesitant to talk to or appraoch them. They are professionals and only make life easy for you. They take their classes regularly unless there is something important for which they have to miss the class. In this case, some faculties do take extra classes but this is their personal decision to make. The list of faculties can be found at : https://www. iiitm. ac. in/index. php/en/component/splms/?view=teachers
