Nirmala college of arts and science, Chalakudy

Remarks :

The college can be a lot better. But presently i strictly not recommend getting an admission in this college. For BA multimedia, there is not even good labs and gadgets. The academic atmosphere is good , but due to a shabby admission criteria, the students here are always average performers who can spoil your skills when study among them.

Course Curriculum Overview :

This college follows the syllabus of Calicut university and conducts exams according to their timetables. Internal exams are conducted twice in a semester and semester exams twice in an year. But the first second and third semester examination are conducted late generally and the first sem result probably get delayed up to the mid of the second year. Final year results arrives much quickly. The calicut university college curriculum is in my opinion is outdated atleast for the course of multimedia. The facilities offered by this college is often disappointing.

Placement Experience :

The college conducts a job fair every year named 'Jobathon'. But most of the companies coming here are offering salaries as low as 8000? or 12000 ? as starting. And almost all companies are looking for marketing people. So , there is limited chance for someone being placed in a good position especially Multimedia graduates who look for a film related career.

College Events :

The college celebrates Onam, Christmas, Arts day and Management day. The arts day usually have a muted response and have a low participation from the students. But the management fest that is being conducted every year named 'Laksh' is celebrated well with DJ parties and lot of events. Onam is celebrated in colours and christmas with small but good events. Overall the events here are not bad.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The college offers an affordable fee structure for any middle-class family. The fee is being collected in every semester and can be varied considering whether you are in the odd or even semester. But there is a fee being collected as Miscellaneous fee, which I think is never being utilised correctly.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college presently does not offer any scholarships. However there may be fee reductions for minorities and financially less stable students. They may even arrange a loan if the student want. But considering the low fee structure of the college, most of the families could afford the fee without any loan or scholarship.

Campus Life :

The sports activities of this college are pathetic. For anyone dreaming of a sports career, this is not your place. The maximum this college has achieved is a second place for inter collegiate cricket tournament. There is a fairly large ground in the campus but not a permanent staff of faculty for guiding the students.

Hostel Facilities :

The college doest have a hostel anywhere near it. The college presently don't have a hostel owned by them. But they arranged a hostel near chalakudy railway station and provides transportation facilities to the college. Considering the hostel fee of 6000? per month, the facilities are not that satisfactory.

Alumni/Alumna :

Sadly, the students passing out from this college comes back here only to collect their certificates. There is not anything like an alumni association. Nor the management is trying to make a contact with them. There is nothing that the passed out students have done for the betterment of the college.

Admission :

Once you finish your 12th grade, Open the admission portal of calicut university and opt for this college for any courses available here( for me it was BA Multimedia ). After that when the allotment list come, you will be called for admission process in office in chalakudy. Where you can complete the admission process with paying the first sem fee, Security deposit and the price for uniform cloth. The admission process is short and quick.

Faculty :

Most of the college professors are post- graduates in the corresponding subjects. Even though they have a friendly attitude , their knowledge base is not up to the mark for any above average student who seek more. And atleast for some faculties, their industry experience is very less. For a course like multimedia, to prepare the students for the industry, the faculty must have a good industry experience.

I strictly does not in believe in studying political science and history while doing a degree course of Economics subject because they are completely different. I had political science and history until 2 years in 4 semesters in total. I prefer to give mathematics for us as it would have been easy for us now, when we have much bigger questions to solve.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course was BA Communicative English which was a 3 years course it was really knowledgeable and good, teachers were perfectly professional and had full knowledge on the subjects. It was a self financed program so the fees is little higher compared to other courses. We have two internships in 3 years one is for teaching and other is for journalism mass communication and all were good and effective. The college also provides placement where we'll known companies come and provide placement for the students. It is also assist we'll. Overall a very good college with a family environment and good staffs
