Life at MIT

Remarks :

There are many positive about my college. In my college seniors are more friendly and helpful to juniors. Mos of the faculties are very helpful and motivating. There are many extra curricular activities held in my college. The college's social life is very pleasant. The environment of my college is fantastic as it is covered by trees all around which gives a very cool atmosphere. The Negatives are not much but there are some the maintenance of buildings in my college is poor. We can't find even a dust bin easily. The library is small it can be improved. The infrastructure of my college is very simple when compared to other colleges.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The courses are well framed with the syllabus adopted mostly by the guidlines of UGC. The exam is of semester type, there are total of 8 semesters with 42 theory papers. Almost 6 theory papers each semester. Every semester consists of 3 exams of which Two exams are Assessment exams (25% weightage each). And semester exam of 50% weightage. For which the question papers are set by senior staff members.

Placement Experience :

Placements are overall not bad in my college. It is easy to get placed in IT services but hard to get placed in Core companies. As far as my department is concerned the placement is around 30% in IT services and 15% in core companies. In addition to this we get a nominal number of companies offering internships mostly for two monts during summer with stipend ranging from 15000 to 60000 per month.

College Events :

Every academic year of my colleges witnesses a number of college fests from Technical symposiums to Cultural fests andVarious association fests. The associations in my college are Personality Development Association, MIT Tamil Mandram, Youth Red Cross, National Service scheme, MIT Robotics Association, The MIT Quill (College events highlighting club), The Box Office ( English literature club) and so on. The MITAFEST cultural festival of my college is the oldest cultural festival in South India.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fee structure is not expensive it is relatively cheap as it is a government institution. Regular courses have a semester fee of 7000 Rs and Self Support courses have a semester fees of 14000 Rs. In addition to this the hostel fees is around 24000 Rs semester for vegetarian and 27000 Rs per semester for Non Vegetarian.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

My college gives many scholarships to students which includes MIT alumni Association Scholarship of ? 20000 per year per student to a total of around 100 students every year whose parents annual income is less than around 200000 per annum. My college helps students in getting FFE scholarship of ? 40000 per year per student. In addition to this my college has a MOU with Renault-Nissan as a part of company's CSR which gives a schoarship of ?30000 annually for deserving students. There are still many scholarships but I am not aware of those details.

Campus Life :

My college encourages students to participate in extra curricular activities by providing On Duty. Every year students from my college participate in Zonals and Inter Zonal sports competition. The labs are good in some department but in my department (Mechanical Engineering) as it was introduced 4 years back the lab facilities are not up to the mark.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel is really good when compared to other government institutions. The Mess food is quite hygienic and has a reasonable taste. The restrooms are cleaned regularly ensuring no infection. The complaints of any properties in room are attended within 1 week after registering the complaint.

Alumni/Alumna :

My college has a very strong strong and wide alumni network all over the world. Alumni meets are held every year in our college for all departments during department symposiums and commonly on other occasions. Our college had a unique senior junior relationship in which Each new student of the institute is assigned to a mentor from the previous batch. He/she also inherits the complete set of 'T-seniors' from this mentor. Mentorship activities span a whole gamut of student activities starting from passing on books, counselling, monetary help (if needed), and placement preparation assistance (mock interviews, aptitude tests). Each Technocrat will also be assigned to a 'T-number'. The 'T-number' is a combination of the student's batch number, his/her department code and his/her roll number.

Admission :

I got the admission through TNEA counselling my cut-off was 198.5. Every year students securing higher cut-off marks in 12th Tamil Nadu State board exams are given high priority to get admission in our college through TNEA online counselling held at the month of July.

Faculty :

As far as facilities are concerned there are lot of people with sound knowledge but they are given additional responsibilities than teaching so we can't expect them to come to class all the time regularly. Some of the staffs are very strict and also there a number of staffs with poor knowledge on subject.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was comprehensive and we have an option to choose free electives from other departments too. We would have 2 quizzes and one end semester exam in a semester and meanwhile assignments will be shared at regular intervals of time.
