Do global top management consulting firms like McKinsey, BCG, Strategy& and Bain only hire from top MBA schools like IIMs, ISB, XLRI and FMS in India?

The consulting industry is still just beginning to go beyond its growing stage in India. Many firms are reluctant to hire students beyond elite institutions. 

The list below should probably give you more idea about different institutes and firms visiting them:

• IIM A, B, C: The graduates from these colleges are the most sought after. Most consulting firms visit the college and many of them also compete to hire top candidates.
• ISB: This is one of the core consulting B-schools of India. Most top firms except Bain hire from here.
• IIM Lucknow: This is slowly gaining popularity among consult hires. McK and BCG visit the campus.
• XLRI, IIM I, K, JBIMS, etc: These have also begun attracting top firms. BCG and McK do visit.
• IIT B, D, M, K: Bombay and Delhi are the more sought-after campuses because of their

If you are from a business family background, you may get to work with the firm of your choice for a short time. A lot of people from varying industries and domains of knowledge are also hired as experts. However, lateral movements are quite difficult from industry to core consulting.

For specific firms, those like Accenture, Deloitte, EY, ZS associates also recruit students from NITs and other universities like Anna University, DU, MIT, VIT, DU, etc.
