Life at IIIT Hyderabad is very vibrant and fun-filled irrespective of how rigorous the academic culture is. Honestly, all that matters is your company. If you have found the most amazing friends, you will have fun doing everything. You will enjoy the coding sessions, doing group assignments, and going for PT together early in the morning. Staying aware till 4 in the morning to complete projects is another kind of fun. You will even enjoy organizing and cleaning your room on Sundays.

So yes, life at IIIT Hyderabad is certainly very tiresome and rigid but the occasional events and activities surely are great stress boosters.

Everything becomes fun if you have the best company be it the compulsory PT or classes from 08:30 am. In the end, you will realize all the discipline helped you become a more responsible and independent person.

For most students, IIIT Hyderabad campus life goes in a circle of eat-sleep-code-repeat. The institute offers a pretty good campus experience. The academics are rigorous. Other than lectures you will learn through various technical and extra-curricular activities. The library on campus has a huge collection of textbooks, reference books, technical reports, etc.

IIITH offers residential facilities to students. First-year students are given accommodation in double sharing rooms. While others get individual rooms.

There are many clubs such as Photography club, Music club, Movie club, Dance club, etc. The sports facilities on campus are also pretty good. There are facilities for cricket, volleyball, basketball, etc.

According to my best friend’s experience, here are some main points you should know to get a better view of life there:

  • Campus: Started in 1988, IIIT is spread across a 66 acres campus, located on the main Gachibowli road (also called the Old Bombay highway) and is well connected by bus, and is on the route for the proposed metro rail.
  • Academics: You may feel hectic sometimes because of the rigorous schedule but it isn't as hard that you can’t manage. There are plenty of activities happening all around the year like technical fests, workshops and extra-curricular activities in which you can take part and show your skills.
  • Hostel Facilities: The hostel rooms allotted to you are well equipped with all basic amenities and comfort at a reasonable cost.

If you are a Btech 1st Year student, you’ll be allotted a double seater room whereas other course students are provided with a single seater room. There are a total 3 hostels; 2 for boys and 1 for girls. There is an optical fiber network connecting all the buildings assuring you a good internet connection in your rooms.

  • Security: The campus is efficiently guarded by 24-hour security at the hostels, main gate and all academic/administrative buildings. Also, there is only one entry and exit points so you need not to worry about safety. The campus is well lit in the dark too.

Various Clubs : Here is a short description of all the clubs which you can choose from according to your interest…

  • Photography Club: This club organizes a monthly event “Best Snap of the Month” where your best snaps will be published in “ECHOES”. This club also organizes annual events.
  • Dance Club: This club conducts classes for western, classical dances, etc besides the regular performances.
  • Dramatics Club: If you are interested in arts and drama, this club is definitely for you.
  • Literary Club: You might want to join this club if you like debates, declamation contests, writing contests, and talk sessions. The "Felicity" and "Splash" are mainly conducted by the literary club.
  • Quiz Club: Regular meetings at Quiz club are conducted on Thursdays. The students of all batches take an active part in quiz contests.

You can choose to dine among the 3 vegetarian (North, South and Yuktahara) and 1 non-vegetarian mess (Kadamb) on campus. Kadamb serves non-veg five times a week. You can also go to canteens for snacks and beverages throughout the day and late into the evening.
