CSE is very good branch to take. Else civil is good branch in terms of government sector openings The advantages of choosing CSE over civil from NIT Raipur are as follows:

  • The course opens up a high-demand field with excellent job prospects. It offers opportunities in software development, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and more.
  • CSE graduates from NIT often command higher starting salaries compared to many other engineering disciplines. Last year 75 offers made of 83 eligible candidates from CSE but in civil only 20offers were made out of 73 students.
  • CSE is at the forefront of technological advancements, making it an exciting field for those interested in innovation and cutting-edge technology.
  • Graduates can work in various industries, including IT, finance, healthcare, and more. They can also pursue advanced degrees for research or teaching positions.

In summary, your choice between CSE and Civil Engineering should align with your interests and career goals. If you have a strong passion for technology, programming, and are interested in a field with high growth potential, CSE could be the right choice.

CSE and Civil engineering are two vastly different branches and no one can tell you about your preference except you. It is you who is going to choose your branch based on your interests.

In terms of popularity and placements are concerned, then CSE is better in this regard. If you are remotely interested in the software sector or coding then CSE or its sister branch IT should be considered. Currently, most of the placements even for branches such as metallurgical and material engineering, happen with software companies.

Civil engineering is a core branch and though core sector jobs may be less, it has more scope in terms of government jobs (PSUs). Take a look at some of the placement stats for the year 2019-20 for more detail.

  • Average salary (overall) - INR 9.5 lakhs per annum
  • Eligible students for placements - 90 (CSE) and 68 (civil engineering)
  • Offers received - 82 (CSE) and 34 (civil engineering)

So choose accordingly taking all things into consideration.
