Is KIIT a better option than VIT, MANIPAL, SRM, or less renowned NITs like NIT Surat, Jaipur, Raipur, etc.?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : July 26th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

No, KIIT is not a better option than VIT, Manipal, SRM, or even average NITs. this comes from the experience of several relatives of mine who are alumni of KIIT. Other mentioned institutes are better than KIIT in terms of education, exposure, and crowd quality. But if you are still adamant about KIIT, consider joining it only under the following circumstances

  • If you are a local staying in Bhubaneswar you can save a lot of money by not availing hostel facilities thus the ROI will be more than SRM and VIT.
  • If you are in need of regular counseling or have to come back to your house for some purpose and you hail from Bihar, Jharkhand, or Orissa, then KIIT might be a better option. This is because some engineering students fail to receive proper guidance and affection from their families because of studying in a far-off college.

I will end with a note that your college doesn't really matter. What matters is the right mindset, aspirations, books, and knowledge. If you have all these, you will certainly succeed!

What is your review of KIIT University?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : July 24th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

Here is a review of KIIT University based on the experience of a close friend who is now an alumnus of the institute

Pros

  • The institute offers a vibrant and happening campus life filled with fun activities.
  • The institute gives extra attention to extracurricular activities and has a plethora of platforms through which one can pursue their passion.
  • The accommodation facilities are decent and the hostel rooms are spacious. Hygiene is maintained
  • The institute has excellent infrastructural facilities like a gym and swimming pool that charge money.

Cons

  • KIIT fees are high and not everyone can afford it. This year the annual fees stood at ?3.5 Lakhs
  • The faculty pool has average professors and very few are highly experienced.
  • The institute also faces issues due to the huge batch size.
  • The research culture and the lab sessions are poor and need to be worked on.
  • The curfew for girls' hostels is another big concern here. The girls are expected to be inside the hostel by 7 30.
  • Placements are decent considering the huge fees you have paid. There are several mass recruiters so getting placed won’t be a major problem.

In all, KIIT is a good choice if you have no financial constraints and want to live a luxurious campus life.

Which college is better: VIT or KIIT?

KS

I feel I am the right person to answer this as my brother and a friend are in VIT and KIIT respectively. From what I heard from them, I derived the following conclusions

  • KIIT Campus is huge and you can find posters of Mr Achyuta Samanta at every corner of the campus. It looked more like an advertisement.
  • The campus has a good location and enjoys the advantages of Bhubaneswar city.
  • However, you will find very less diversity here as most of the engineering students are from East Indians.
  • The hostel rooms are spacious and well-ventilated. The overall campus is clean and beautiful with decent facilities

My friend at VIT also experienced a similar situation as both are private colleges striving to attract students.

If ever you are left with these two choices, I suggest you go for VIT as it has better placements and ranking.

Which is better: KIIT or SRM?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : July 26th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

It is a very subjective question and the choice is ultimately yours to make. I would, though, give you some insight on KIIT.

The faculty at KIIT is very helpful. The teachers guide us whenever we need help. There is a strict no-ragging policy on campus and the seniors are amazing. We engage in a lot of extra-curricular activities besides study. KIIT Fest is really good and everyone looks forward to it.

Both KIIT and SRM have great faculty and placement records. Both institutions offer good opportunities. You should choose according to your personal preferences. For making an informed decision, I would recommend you talk to the students from both institutions and also do some basic research at your end.

SD
Salini Dasgupta Posted On : July 25th, 2023
studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

Deloitte is the dream company of many engineering aspirants and when my brother in KIIT received the notice from Deloitte that it will be conducting a placement drive, he was elated. The students were shortlisted under 3 rounds each of which evaluates the candidates' skills thoroughly. Here is the detailed shortlisting process.

Round 1(Written round)

  • This round comprises Aptitude, English, and Logical Reasoning. In this round, the selection is done on the basis of percentile score.
  • The skills required to clear this round are Proficiency in English and LR and a strong aptitude.

Round 2(Case study/ Presentation round)

  • Students who clear the written round appear for this case study round wherein their problem-solving skills are evaluated.
  • Usually, students are given a case to discuss, followed by 5 questions and subquestions for 20 minutes. You have to work with your team members and come up with a solution within 20 minutes.
  • After this, the presentation round takes place wherein have to present the entire case in front of the board. You will be asked questions and your presence of mind will be tested.
  • The skills required to clear this round are strong communication and presentation skills.

Round 3(HR/Technical interview)

  • The students who get shortlisted for this round are the cream students as the second round is very tough
  • In this round, you will be presenting yourself as a favorable candidate. You will be enquired about your profile, and reason to choose Deloitte.
  • This round requires smartness, intelligence, and involvement in activities apart from academics.

Once you have cleared the 3rd round, you have made it to your dream college!

Is it worth paying 13 lacs or more for a B.Tech CSE in KIIT University?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : July 25th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

Whether a particular degree is worth the money you spend depends on a number of factors like your financial background and your future prospects. One of my relatives completed his BTech in CSE in 2012 and got a job that helped him pay back the loan within 2 years. However, this may not be the case for everyone. That being said, consider the following scenarios

  1. If you have zero financial constraints and want to live a dreamy college life, then KIIT is certainly the best place for you.
  2. If your parents have been saving money for you, save that for your Master's and do your Bachelors in IITs or NITs instead.
  3. If you have financial issues and loam is the only option, then leave that option for Master

Nevertheless, if you are adamant about joining anyways, go for CS or IT which will provide better placement opportunities than other branches.

Is KIIT a good college in terms of education and faculty?

SD
Salini Dasgupta Posted On : July 25th, 2023
studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

Yes, KIIT is a great college in terms of both education and faculty. One of my friends completed his BTech in Civil Engineering from KIIT and was glad of his decision. The faculty base comprises a mix of highly learned professors and fresh post-graduates generally from IITs or other reputed colleges. But the major issue here is the quality of students getting admission here. KIIT usually averages students who could not make it into other engineering colleges.

No matter how good the teachers are, the level of education can never be great if the students are average and have no interest in studying. Because of the luxurious life the institute offers, students have started taking faculty and education in general for granted. They can be seen frequently skipping classes and exams. This carefree approach toward studies is causing major problems and is destroying the academic ambiance as well as the career of many.

Owing to such an attitude on the part of students, the professors too have little interest in teaching. They dont run behind students and have found comfort in their laid-back attitude. So, the faculty although good is of no use if the students are not willing to extract benefits from them.
