No, KIIT is not a better option than VIT, Manipal, SRM, or even average NITs. this comes from the experience of several relatives of mine who are alumni of KIIT. Other mentioned institutes are better than KIIT in terms of education, exposure, and crowd quality. But if you are still adamant about KIIT, consider joining it only under the following circumstances

  • If you are a local staying in Bhubaneswar you can save a lot of money by not availing hostel facilities thus the ROI will be more than SRM and VIT.
  • If you are in need of regular counseling or have to come back to your house for some purpose and you hail from Bihar, Jharkhand, or Orissa, then KIIT might be a better option. This is because some engineering students fail to receive proper guidance and affection from their families because of studying in a far-off college.

I will end with a note that your college doesn't really matter. What matters is the right mindset, aspirations, books, and knowledge. If you have all these, you will certainly succeed!

KIIT offers better academics than VIT, Manipal, and SRM. But it can’t be compared to NITs like Surat, Jaipur, and Raipur. KIIT is an average technological institute at best. It has a decent placement record. KIIT Bhubaneswar placements 2022 had an average CTC of INR 6.05 LPA. The video below comprises a short campus tour of KIIT

However, if you are getting one of the NIT or any IITs, then you should choose that over KIIT.

Having friends in KIIT, NIT and Manipal, I have gathered some knowledge about these institutions and how they function. Let me share my views which might help you determine the better option.

The table below shows a brief overview of college:

Category

VIT

Ranking

#15 by NIRF

Total Fee Per Year

1,73,000

Companies Visited

Deloitte, Qualcomm, Morgan Stanley, etc.

Highest Package

41.60 LPA

Hostel fee

50,000

If you see, there are contradicting views about VIT. The college is appreciated by some while rejected by others. This rejection might be a cause of the donation policy at VIT. It is important to realise that a majority of students are extremely competitive Kota students, while very few avail the donation route.

A lot of students studying in VIT have had a decent ranking in AIEEE and IIT Advance which comes as a shock to many. A lot of these students are unable to get their suitable branch because of the reservation policy.

Ranking and Research Opportunities

For years, people have been claiming that the rankings by India Today are fake, and have accused VIT of bribing them.

  • VIT has been given a QS4 star rating by TheHindu. The second link is from the MHRD ranking, which ranks VIT at 13th position among Engineering Colleges all over India.
  • If researched thoroughly, you would find so many volumes of Research Publications from VIT. It might not be at par with the IITs but that does not debase the fact that the students get a massive opportunity for research here.

VIT’s placements can be compared with NITs but not with that of IITs. VIT admits a lot of students every year which is why they have opened two more branches in Bhopal and Andhra Pradesh.
