Is there anything good about IEM, Kolkata for a BTech? Will we get any extra advantage studying in IEM?

SN
Subhashree Nath Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
B.Tech. Computer Science, Institute of Engineering and Management (2016)

A friend of mine did her BTech from IEM Kolkata and now she is working as a Cyber Security Analyst in a big firm. Here are a few things that she experienced in her duration at the college.

  • Unnecessary Rules: Students often complain about the unnecessary discipline enforced by the college to attend all of the lectures and seminars irrespective of their choice and usefulness.
  • Faculty: In terms of faculty, there is a mix of average and good professors. But most of the good professors are moving to different colleges.
  • Placements: In the terms of placement, the data may show it as amazing but in reality, most of the students of IEM end up in mass recruiting jobs offered by any IT company. Only a few of the students end up in good companies.

If you are choosing IEM try to make the most of it. Other than college learning, try and take up some extra courses such as coding or hacking and security, it will help a lot. There are a handful of helpful faculties at IEM. Interacting and working with those professors will help a lot in going good places.

Learn to utilize their time and learn new things. Learn something new and read as much as possible. If you are not happy with campus placements then you should look for off-campus placements as well.

RS
Rabina Sinha Posted On : November 26th, 2021
studied at Dayalbagh Educational Institute

You will be asked fundamental STEM questions. The difficulty level will be basic to moderate in general. Sometimes they ask hard questions too like curve tracing in Mathematics. Prepare Mathematics fundamentals, Physics basics, Current affairs, and GK in depth.

You should also keep in mind that a good interview doesn’t guarantee your selections. There are other factors at play, such as Written Test Performance, Reservation Quota, etc.

Which one is better for a B.Tech Assam Engineering College or Tezpur University?

DR
Dinesh Rawal, Posted On : November 11th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, Tezpur University (2013)

It is better to go for B.Tech at Tezpur University (TU) than Assam Engineering College (AEC). Following are the reasons for the same:

  • TU has great faculty and infrastructure, and you will get a lot of exposure.
  • The only drawback is the lack of placements. Being a new institution very few companies visit the college.
  • AEC on the other hand, is very old, and has a strong alumni network.
  • Placement is better at AEC compared to TU, but still it keeps fluctuating which makes students unsure.
Categories B.Tech at AEC B.Tech at TU
Course Fee INR 44,000 1.76 lakh
Placement Percentage 80% 50%
Highest CTC 17 LPA 14 LPA
Average CTC 6 LPA 3.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies Capgemini, IBM, Wipro, Reliance, etc. SAP Labs, Amazon, Intel, Dabur, etc.

If your aim is to get a job right after your graduation, then you should join AEC. But if you are interested more in research and exposure and want to opt for higher studies, TU will be a better option.

Are NPTEL courses compulsory for B.Tech AKTU?

SY
Sanjay Yadav Posted On : November 7th, 2022
BTech from APJ Abdul Kalam University (Graduated 2017)

No, NPTEL courses are not compulsory for B.Tech. In AKTU. These courses simply aim at adding qualitative knowledge among the students. In addition, every NPTEL course grants you extra 3 credits. If you are lagging behind in B.Tech. courses then NPTEL courses will definitely help you compensate for the loss.

So it can be said that for. B.Tech. student NPTEL courses are highly recommended but not compulsory.

What are the average marks/percentages scored by BTech students at various UPTU/AKTU colleges?

DO
Deepanshi Ojha Posted On : November 9th, 2022
B.Tech from APJ Abdul Kalam University

The average percentage scored by most BTech students at AKTU/UPTU colleges is 65-70%. This can be obtained with minimal effort as marks are literally distributed here. The internal marks depend on the student's image and not his performance.

Most of the heads of Departments are just puppets controlled by management. The faculty here is usually from a C-grade engineering college. Also, the lowest form of practice here is to earn more money through evaluation. This dishonesty on the part of the faculty produces disqualified engineers. The Centre Superintendent does not care about checking the eligibility of a faculty.

So you don’t actually need to worry about average marks because marks are awarded for free at AKTU/UPTU colleges.

Is IITM Janakpuri good for a B.Tech?

RS
Radhika Shaw Posted On : September 7th, 2021
Studies Integrated B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Jawaharlal Nehru University (2024)

An institute relies upon its environment and exposure, apart from that other things definitely only depend upon you. Herein, environment interprets to the competition you have in your batch, while exposure translates to pursuing things in the institute alongside academics.

If you are living somewhere around or in Delhi, then opting for IITM Janakpuri can be a better option than others. The institute offers great exposure in terms of city life. You will get a chance to attend the biggest fests like IITD Randezvou, AIIMS Pulse, and DTU’s fests.

However, if you get options better than this, then choosing them will not relevantly affect you. Make an informed decision whenever you can.

Is Sharda University good for a BTech?

PM
Priti Mehra Posted On : January 12th, 2021
Studied B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Sharda University (2019)

Sharda University will be a great option for you to pursue B.Tech. While studying at Sharda University I noticed that every college has more or less the same course curriculum. Miscommunications about placement drives are common, like in any other institute. The only comparison you can make among colleges to get a better idea are the placements and the salary packages offered to its students.

My fellow classmates of the 2019 batch had seen 91% placement in BTech. Over 350 companies participated in the placement program. The recruiting companies include Mu Sigma, Amazon, Johnson Controls, iGate, Adani, Wipro, D&B, Tech Mahindra, Crisil, KPMG, IBM, Global Logic, etc.

Category

Sharda University

Course Fee

1,59,000 per year

Entrance Mode

SUAT, JEE, UPSEE

Placement Percentage

91%

Highest CTC

12 LPA

Average CTC

4 LPA

Sharda University is a reputed institution well equipped with all the necessary facilities. It has a great infrastructure with a 63 acre campus area. They also have a better curriculum than most of the UPTU (Uttar Pradesh Technical University) colleges.

Computer Programming is recommended for students willing to appear for placements. This will work as an additional skill in your resume, during placements. Sharda University provides a great national and international exposure when it comes to placements. B.Tech gets the best of placement at Sharda among all the other courses. The teaching method has a practical approach.

Sharda University’s Engineering Department moulds you in a creative way to be competent in society. It will be a good choice for studying Engineering.

How is PTU Jalandhar for a B.Tech?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : August 24th, 2023
Feels good to be back here

One of my friends was admitted to PTU and does not recommend its B.tech course. The quality of education is below-average and you won't learn much from the university. The placement scenario is pathetic and more than 30% of the students remain unplaced. The highest salary package offered is 6 LPA and the top recruiters include Wipro, Tech Mahindra, HCL, etc. Students get placed in minor roles in software companies.

The infrastructure however isn't that bad and the college has decent lab facilities and a well-stocked library. The hostel facilities are also decent and the food served is good.

Unless you are satisfied with a low package below INR 10 LPA, it's better to look for a better college.
