Is studying ECE at NIT Trichy better than studying ECE at CEG?

AS
Anuraag Sharma Posted On : September 9th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

I have a few friends from both NIT Trichy and CEG and here is what I gathered from my conversations with them.

  • In terms of ranking, NIT Trichy is placed higher than CEG. This is because NIT admits students based on JEE Mains ranking and CEG admits students based on board marks.
  • In terms of placements, NIT Trichy would be way ahead of CEG. The college enjoys a better reputation and big firms come for placements.
  • For ECE, then recruiting companies visiting the on-campus placements at NIT Trichy are Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, SanDisk, Nvidia, etc. The average CTC offered is 6 LPA.
  • You can also go for higher education if you have a good GPA and great projects.
  • The faculty team is overall good. A few of them are extremely knowledgeable and conduct high-quality research. In terms of facilities, NIT Trichy has an edge over CEG.
  • Since CEG is in Chennai, there are other sources of enjoyment but NIT Trichy is 20 km away from Trichy.

Overall, NIT Trichy will be a better choice than CEG.

Is it better to take CSE in NIT Trichy or in new IITs like IIT Hyderabad, IIT Ropar, IIT Indore, etc?

DS

If you look beyond the IIT tag lens, you will realize NIT Trichy is actually a great institute with excellent opportunities. The institute does well in providing both placement and higher education opportunities. Some other things that make it a good choice are

  • Fests like Pragyan and Festember held at a huge scale
  • An Excellent alumni connect
  • A talented student body
  • Octa the computer lab
  • Sports facilities
  • A good brand name

NIT Trichy might not have the IIT tag but it certainly has something that even the new IITs do not, a well organized and student-friendly management!

What are the packages offered at NIT Trichy branch-wise in an MTech ME?

DP
Devesh Pattanaik Posted On : August 31st, 2021
M.Tech in Industrial Engineering and Management from NIT Trichy (2020)

The packages offered to the students of NIT Trichy who are pursuing M.Tech ME according to what branches they are in are as follows:

  • Thermal Power Engineering: The package can be from INR 7 LPA to as high as INR 16 LPA. Some packages may range from INR 10 to 11 LPA as well.
  • Non-Destructive Testing: You can expect certain placement with packages in the range of INR 3 to 6 LPA. Students in this branch are eligible for most other companies if they have completed B.Tech in mechanical.
  • Energy Engineering: An average placement of INR 7 LPA. Like NDT, you may try your luck in other companies too where B.Tech is required.
  • Safety Engineering: You may be offered an average package of INR 6 LPA. The same can be said about the students who are in the Industrial Metallurgy branch.
  • Welding Engineering: This branch promises certain placement and ranges from INR 4 to 7 LPA.
  • Manufacturing Technology: 80% placement is guaranteed by this branch with packages of around INR 6-7 LPA offered to the students.
  • IEM: The average package will be around INR 7-8 LPA with an 80% guarantee. Recent placements from this branch have not been good lately and if you are from a mechanical background purely then you will most probably not be preferred but companies dealing in analytics and management may have use for your skills.

Finally, most of the students in the civil branch are not seen in high regard for me. The placement percentage is from 50 to 70, unfortunately.

While applying to the US for an MS, are NITs (Surathkal, Trichy, Warangal) considered the same level as the new IITs?

KS

Top NITs like Surathkal, Trichy, and Warangal are considered close to if not at par with old IITs and definitely better than some new IITs.

Unless you are from the top IITs, admission to foreign universities for an MS does not depend on the college you are from. Many students from top IITs go to foreign universities every year. For non-IITians what matters is the project, internships, UG research quality, and extracurriculars. In fact, the sole reason IITians make it to top foreign universities is their strong determination and grasp of these aspects. Yes, the IIT alumni network does help you in the research internship but ultimately it’s your efforts that matter.

So even if you are not an IITian, keep working hard and you are likely to get admission to top foreign universities.

What is the cutoff for an MCA in NIT Trichy through the NIMCET?

RG
Ridhhi Sen Gupta Posted On : August 30th, 2021
Studies MCA in NIT Trichy (2021)

The required cutoff partially depends upon the difficulty level of the NIMCET paper since it varies from one year to another.

However, for the previous two years, NITK was the conductor of the NIMCET exam and was actually announcing the ranks based on the scores predetermined by the authorities. For further securing admission at NIT Trichy, you are required to score around 800 or above if only the paper is comparatively easy and you belong from the general category.

In case the paper is somewhat moderate in its difficulty level, then achieving 700 and above can help you secure admission to NIT Trichy. But, if it is undeniably difficult, then 500+ is supposed to be quite enough for securing a seat at NIT Trichy.

PC
Prateek Chaturvedi Posted On : September 4th, 2021
B.Tech. Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2020)

I am assuming that you are asking about core civil job profiles. According to my friend at NIT Trichy the placement record for the Civil Engineering branch is quite good. Here is the placement trend for the branch.

Year Civil Engineering
2019-20 81.7%
2018-19 92.1%
2017-18 83.6%

According to the placement highlights of the past few years for Civil Engineering the highest CTC offered by the recruiting companies is around 17 LPA. During the placement drive 2020, the average package offered was INR 6 LPA.

More job offers are made to the civil engineers from companies such as Oil and other related companies. The salary package offered by a few conglomerates like L&T varies from INR 6.2 LPA for IITians, INR 5.11 LPA for NITians, to INR 3.6 for Local/Private Colleges. This is the general trend. It varies depending on the academic year.

What should I pack while leaving for NIT trichy?

KS
Kalyani Shrivastava Posted On : July 26th, 2023
NIT Trichy

While leaving for the NIT Trichy hostel, there are a few things that you should pack as a fresher. These include:

  1. You will be provided with a cot but do get bedsheets and pillows with you. They do sell these items outside the hostel, however, the quality is not good.
  2. Do bring your locks and keychains with you. You will need a lock for your cupboard.
  3. Add 10 formal and 5 informal sets of clothes. You will procrastinate on washing your clothes most of the time. Therefore, keep a good amount of clothes to wear for your classes. Bring both formal shoes and sports shoes with you. I wore only formals for the first three months, but after three months I wore formals very rarely.
  4. Bring your clips and hangers for your clothes. The hostel will provide you with a clothesline to dry your laundry. Buy your bucket for bathing.
  5. Get a flask or a good quality water bottle to fill drinking water.
  6. Trichy is very hot during the day. People tend to get giant table fans to allow for aggressive ventilation. If you can afford it, get an air cooler. Also, add umbrellas and caps to the list.
  7. Do get a room freshener because the rooms stink a lot when you first enter them.
  8. Get a broomstick if you intend to clean your room regularly.
  9. Get a trolly bag with you so that whenever you wish to travel home you can pack all your essentials and get going.

If you carry these things when you arrive at the NIT Trichy hostel, you will have a good time without worrying about unnecessary stuff.

Should IIT Patna be preferred for an M.Tech in CSE? Are NIT Tirchy, Warangal, Surathkal better than IIT Patna for an M.Tech in CSE?

SR
Sushmita Rajput Posted On : June 21st, 2023
Lives in Patna

Yes, NIT Trichy, Warangal, and Surathkal are better options for MTech than IIT Patna because of their superior location. The placement scenario at any institute is directly proportional to its location and proximity to tech hubs.

A location imparts better industry exposure that forms the foundation for any tech college. Consider the location as the primary factor while choosing your college. The reason I said NITs are better than IIT Patna today is because of their location and the quality of recruiters they attract as a result.

IIT Patna is a great institute but lacks the recognition yet and thus most recruiters don't visit it. So, look beyond the IIT tag a make a wise decision.

How hard is it to get into NIT Trichy and get CSE? How hard did you study?

TR
Tirtha Ray Posted On : August 31st, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2021)

NIT Trichy is a really good college when it comes to most NITs. But, you will only get admission through JEE Main. You will definitely have to score well if you plan to secure admission here.

  • About 90% of the entire paper is quite easy to solve at home but you will have to develop skills to be able to solve the paper quickly and efficiently.
  • See how well you can do with MCQs along with your boards’ preparation.
  • Develop your accuracy, for example, if you solve 30 questions, ensure that 18 of them are correct at least even if you end up attempting only 22 of them.
  • As far as CSE or any good core branch is concerned, NITs are relatively easier to get into as compared to IITs.

The cut-offs for NIT Trichy in CSE are as follows:

Categories Male Female
Home State Other state Home State Other state
General 5235 1373 4075 2371
SC 1300 138 1435 420
OBC 2165 357 4085 1060
EWS 2068 165 2489 305

You will have to do your best and strive a little hard in order to secure your seat. Getting into core branches is quite tough especially for branches like ECE and mechanical. As long as you meet the above cut-offs, you should be good to go. Analyze your paper well, set a dedicated schedule and at the end, you will surely be able to crack the JEE.
