How is the director of IIT Gandhinagar?

AP
Aishwarya Patil Posted On : March 5th, 2021
B.Tech IIT Gandhinagar

The Director of IIT Gandhinagar, Dr. Sudhir Jain as some say “Man with brilliant ideas”.

  • An incredible and dynamic person with a different aura of authority around him, he holds very different views of working and managing from the others. He believes rules and regulations are meant to make someone carve a better person out of oneself, thus he imposes rules which can be a little out of the book.
  • A man with critical listening skills, he outright listens to students and tries to solve their problems. The college has a legislative student body that consults him regarding different issues. He does not directly give orders courses ideas given by the student body itself.
  • Dr. Sudhir’s great oratory skills inspire and motivate many people. He has a flair towards extracurricular activities and always gives his students the freedom to form or join any kind of club or society which tends to go a long way for the holistic development of students.

His undistinguishable nature makes him such a great mentor. There aren't any restrictions for girls from going out of the hostel like any other college. He believes if boys are entitled to freedom, so are girls.

Is IIT Gandhinagar B.Tech curriculum worst of all IITs and NITs?

AS
Anisha Srivastav Posted On : April 19th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN)

If you're considering the B.Tech program at IIT Gandhinagar, here are some points to note about their curriculum:

  • Probability and Statistics course: The curriculum includes a course in Probability and Statistics (MA202), which is useful not just for engineering but also for fields like finance and consulting.
  • Mathematics courses: The program offers Mathematics courses up to the 2nd year, which is important for understanding advanced Mathematics concepts required for engineering.
  • Intro to Analog and Digital Electronics course: The course in 1st year is mandatory, which is beneficial for students interested in electronics and related fields.
  • Economics course: The curriculum includes an Economics course in the 1st year, which is a plus point as this is usually a hard-to-get humanities elective in other IITs.
  • Standard ChemE courses: The curriculum includes all the usual courses in Chemical Engineering such as Chemical Reaction Engineering, Mass Transfer, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Separation Processes, Control Systems, and Process Design.
  • Electives: The program offers elective courses for students to explore other areas of interest.

There are some differences compared to other IITs, such as:

  • No transport phenomena course: This course is not included in the curriculum, but it's not a big deal as it's covered in other courses.
  • Solid mechanics course: Instead of the usual engineering mechanics course, IIT Gandhinagar has a solid mechanics course, which has its pros and cons.
  • Physics course: The Physics course could benefit from including the foundations of Quantum Mechanics.

Overall, the curriculum is pretty standard and solid, with some added benefits such as the Economics course and Mathematics courses. It's at par with most other IITs as far as engineering disciplines are concerned.

Should I opt for CSE in IIT Gandhinagar?

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : August 2nd, 2023

IIT Gandhinagar started its B.Tech CSE in 2016. Even though the program is relatively new, it is a great choice. The CSE department started way back, in the year 2009. The Ph.D. program in CSE has been running for a long time and plenty of research work is taking place in this field. You will receive all the required research facilities and necessary guidance from the institution. Minors in CSE has always been quite popular among the IIT Gandhinagar B.Tech students.

IIT Gandhinagar sees excellent placements in coding profiles. For 2023 placements, the B.Tech CSE branch recorded 94.4% placement, with a median salary of INR 25.06 LPA and an average salary of INR 29.29 LPA.

I strongly recommend IIT Gandhinagar for your B.Tech CSE and would suggest you make the best use of the opportunities that this institution offers.

Which college is better, IIT BHU or IIT Gandhinagar?

YD
Yash Dasgupta Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech BioEngineering Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (2021)

IIT BHU and IIT Gandhinagar both are decent IITs. IIT Gandhinagar has a better NIRF ranking as compared to IIT BHU. Although IIT BHU has a lot of Engineering courses to offer, the overall infrastructure and environment are not as conducive as IIT Gandhinagar. Also, the recent year’s cutoffs are comparably higher for IIT Gandhinagar.

Furthermore, IIT Gandhinagar has a unique and distinctive “Foundation Program” which helps students get acquainted with academic life and college environment. Besides, the faculty of IIT GN is also among the best. On the contrary, there is a shortage of faculty members in many branches (including Civil Engineering) at IIT BHU.

The campus location of IIT Gandhinagar is also comparably better as compared to IIT BHU. It is pertinent to note that the campus of IIT BHU is merged with BHU, which makes the campus a crowded place for students. Also, the placement scenario in both the colleges is almost at the same level.

Although IIT BHU being much older than IIT Gandhinagar, offers a huge alumni base. IIT GN might be considered a new IIT by many, but the progress that it has shown is humongous. It also provides a conducive environment for research scholars and has an overhauled infrastructure (including labs). Both colleges have their pros and cons, so it is hard to choose one institute over the other.

Should I leave NITK Surathkal CS for IIT Gandhinagar CS? I've finished my 1st year from NITK.

AM
Ashutosh Mukherjee Posted On : March 5th, 2021
IIT Gandhinagar

You should go to IIT Gandhinagar. That being said, if you have obtained the CSE degree course at Gandhinagar, then the most probable rank you ought to have is under 1800, since the closing rank is around 1800–1900. In that case, you can opt to go for other old IITs’ by compromising with the branch. You will get far better students at old IITs, which can be a plus side to your personal development and further enhancement.

For the most part, the problem with the new IITs is that they lack to provide a greater established alumni network and good infrastructure. However, since IIT Gandhinagar was established back in 2008, you can expect decent infrastructure and facilities.
