Who is the best professor at NIT Trichy?
I feel Dr. Raghavan from the ECE department deserves to be in the list of best professors at NIT Trichy. His teaching, question paper setting, and grading are on par with global standards.
Sir emphasizes on course projects, something unique to his teaching. He focuses on the big picture, instead of petty details. He never tests derivations straight off a book. His exams aren’t lengthy, rather they require logical thinking. He conducts pseudo open book exams. His methods especially stand out because usually question papers are unnecessarily lengthy, classroom lectures are simply textual recitations, and exam problems are straight out of textbook. Sir has an exceptional knowledge of his field, and his lectures are a delight for learners.
The best part is that sir always ends his lectures 5 minutes early.
Which should I choose: IIT Madras for metallurgy over NIT Trichy for computer science and engineering?
If you're trying to decide what to study at university, it can be overwhelming. You should consider CSE at NIT Trichy, instead of going to IIT Madras for metallurgy. Here are some reasons why you should choose computer science engineering:
- Don't choose a branch just for the sake of a tag: You may feel pressure to choose a certain branch of study because of the prestige associated with it, but this can be a mistake. Instead, consider your long-term career goals and what will be most beneficial to you in achieving them.
- Don't risk your career for a tag: Going for a branch just because it's considered prestigious, even if it's not the best fit for you, can be a big risk. Your career is important and you should choose something that will set you up for success in the future.
- Topping the class doesn't guarantee certainty: If you're certain you want to change your branch and you're confident you'll be able to top your class at IIT Madras, you may be considering metallurgical engineering. However, there's always a risk that you won't be able to achieve that top spot. If that happens, you'll be stuck with a degree that may not be as useful for your career goals.
How are North Indians treated in NIT Trichy?
I had this general notion that North Indians are not treated well in the South but it took only a few weeks in NIT Trichy to discard this notion as everyone is treated equally here and you won't find any kind of groupism among students. Events and fests bring students together and you realize no one is treating you equally here and everyone is rather friendly.
My friend told me of an incident wherein South Indians were encouraged to play holi with North Indians and it was a sight of pure cultural bliss. From then, North and South Indians started celebrating every festival like Diwali, Durga Pooja, Ganesh Utsav, or Pongal together. Apart from the students, the professors and the local shopkeepers are very supportive of filling the language gap and using English words.
So, I think being mistreated by South Indians should be your last concern at NIT Trichy.
Which is better, NIT Trichy CSE or NITK Suratkal CSE, considering academics, campus and college life?
Although both NIT Trichy and NIT Surathkal give constant edge to each other it’s NIT Trichy that has a slight advantage over the latter. However, the difference in the institutes is based on certain parameters.
Academics-wise, NIT Trichy is better as it attracts a better crowd of both students as well as recruiters.
But when it comes to campus life, NIT Surathkal overtakes NIT Trichy easily. NIT Trichy faces a disadvantage due to its location and extremely hot climate while NIT Surathkal has a pleasant climate and a more relaxing campus life. They also have a private beach and the institute is in close proximity to Manipal and Mangalore. Although college life varies from person to person, the fact that you will be enjoying your life better at NIT Surathkal cannot be overlooked. NIT Trichy has a huge campus but the hot climate makes things worse here.
In all, if you give more preference to academics choose NIT Trichy but if you value a good campus life equally then NIT Surathkal seems to be better for you.
Is NIT Trichy CSE good?
The CSE department of NIT Trichy, one of the top NITs second only to the old IITs is indeed a well-regarded branch that has excellent education and placement records. I would say joining this without any doubt will do you no harm. Here is why I consider this branch to be highly regarded

- The campus and accommodation facilities offered to NIT Trichy students are one of a kind.
- Students get to showcase their talents through several platforms
- The exposure and opportunities offered are excellent, helping to develop your personality as a whole.
- The student crowd is diverse, improving the overall learning experience.
- The placements as usual are the best
The CSE curriculum is pretty easy and gives you enough time to explore other passions.
Ultimately, NIT Trichy CSE is a great option if you are someone who has no specific interests and is considering engineering as a safe option for your career.
How does NIT Warangal compare to NIT Trichy?
Both NIT Warangal and NIT Trichy are prestigious engineering colleges that lie below the old IITs but above the new ones. Comparing two NITs, however, is tricky as each NIT has its own strengths and weaknesses. So rather than making a direct comparison I will mention the leading aspects of both the institutes
NIT Trichy
- The institute provided free unlimited high-speed WiFi.
- A hospital within the campus that takes care of the medical needs of the students free of cost.
- There are 22 boys' hostels in all and every floor has a TT room and a TV room with AC.
- A large number of canteens serving a variety of food run throughout the day and some even past midnight.
- The hostel rooms are huge enough to seat 2 people and both students are allotted individual furniture
- Students are given permission to bring their own electrical appliances.
NIT Warangal
- NIT Warangal's internet facilities are somewhat poor and students are not allowed to bring routers.
- An ambulance and a hospital within campus offer free-of-cost services to the students
- NIT Warangal hostels are one of the best in the country. The first-year students are allotted double occupancy rooms while second-year students are allotted triple occupancy rooms and single occupancy rooms for the rest of the year.
- NIT Warangal has mostly South Indian students so is a bit lacking in the diversity aspect.

Is it good to pursue an M.tech. in energy engineering at NIT Trichy?
If you are a mechanical engineer, pursuing an M.Tech in Energy at NIT Trichy would be an excellent choice for you. The program is well-designed and provides in-depth knowledge about energy systems and sustainability. The course curriculum is mostly based on mechanical engineering principles, which makes it easier for mechanical engineers to understand and excel in the program.
NIT Trichy M.Tech Energy placements are also good, with reputed companies visiting the campus for recruitment. As a mechanical engineer, you will have many opportunities to sit in various company placements and internships, which may lead to a job offer.
However, if you are an electrical engineer, you may face some challenges during the course as it is mostly based on mechanical engineering principles. This may affect your understanding of the subject and affect your performance in the program. Additionally, for placements, companies may not prefer an energy engineer with an electrical engineering background.
But, if you are interested in research and higher studies, pursuing M.Tech Energy at NIT Trichy is still a good option. The campus has a solar energy lab and equipment, which provides opportunities for research in the field of energy.
For Chemical and Biotech engineers, NIT Trichy is a good place to pursue research if you are interested in the field. The campus has good research facilities and provides opportunities for research in the field of energy, sustainability, and biotechnology. However, there may not be many core placements for these disciplines.
If you are a mechanical engineer or interested in research, pursuing M.Tech Energy at NIT Trichy can be a good option. However, if you are an electrical, chemical, or biotech engineer, you should carefully consider the challenges and opportunities of the program before making a decision.

One of my brothers' seniors at NIT Trichy got an offer from Google. He is from Metallurgical and Materials with a CGPA of 7.6. He has an excellent CV comprising his achievements like

- Summer intern in 2015 at Microsoft.
- Internship at Facebook HQ.
