The CSE department of IGIT Sarang aims to become a recognized ethical leader in the state of Odisha. The department offers high-quality educational programs in computer science and its applications. It provides high-quality education in the art and science of computing as well as it also prepares students for career opportunities in this area, requiring a high level of technical knowledge and skill. The CSE department develops and administers programs to serve the needs of industrial computer scientists, researchers, and computer application specialist.

  • The placement statistics for 2019 CSE pass out students stated as follows. T.C.S. didn't visit the college for in campus placement which was the Institute's only mass recruiter. But the students applied at the national level exams conducted by these companies.
  • The previous year placement cell of the college didn't contact any other company then T.C.S., and the remote location of the college would also be considered as a big issue. Big companies like Deloitte, I.B.M., Robert Bosch, etc. mostly conducted their pool drive in private colleges in Bhubaneswar among which some government colleges for also invited.
  • IGIT was not asked because the placement cell never contacted them for placements. A new placement cell head was appointed last year, and a lot of steps are still to be taken to improve the placement results.

Infrastructure:

  • IGIT Sarang has a fully equipped hostel and college which separate hostels for students of all years.
  • Staff quarters and mess facilities with proper lab equipment for Austrians are some other hallmarks of the university.
  • The centralized library has digitized with an air conditioner and Wi-Fi facility.

Faculty:

  • The faculty at IGIT Sarang is very helpful and handles a large batch of students. The college has a very good teaching quality and all the teachers are very helpful in providing students with quality education as well as theoretical and practical knowledge.

The details discussed above are going to assist you in making a wise decision for choosing IGIT Sarang as your college. Nevertheless, the requirements are to be filled like the fee and eligibility to ensure your chances of getting admitted.

Is chemical engineering good in IGIT Sarang?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : May 2nd, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

Yes, chemical engineering is a good option to consider at IGIT Sarang. Here are some key points to consider:

  • The chemical engineering branch at IGIT Sarang is the first among all colleges in Odisha except NIT Rourkela, which is a significant achievement for the institute.
  • The faculty at IGIT Sarang is reputed and experienced, ensuring a good learning experience for students.
  • The labs are being modernized, which means students can expect to work with the latest equipment and technology.
  • Placements for chemical engineering students at IGIT Sarang are pretty good, with TCS being the biggest recruiter. Other companies like Praxair, JK Paper, and Vedanta also recruit a good number of students every year.
  • The institute also organizes Quimica, a three-day chemical fest where students from different colleges come and showcase their models, and presentations of papers and seminars are also organized. This gives students a chance to learn from and network with their peers from other institutes.
  • Apart from placements and extracurricular activities, the curriculum itself is comprehensive and covers both organic and inorganic aspects of chemistry. This makes it a good choice for those interested in pursuing higher studies (MS/M.Eng, etc.) or a career in the chemical/FMCG industry.

Overall, if you are considering a career in chemical engineering, IGIT Sarang can be a good option to explore.

How is the teaching and placement in ETC for IGIT, Sarang in Odisha currently?

AS
Anika Sen Posted On : March 20th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (2019)

A friend of mine completed BTech in Electronics and Telecom from IGIT. Here are some of the things that he shared about the institute.

  • Initially, you will feel the pressure from lots of assignments as assigned but then you will get used to it.
  • The curriculum followed by the Department takes into account the latest subjects as per the current scenario.
  • During lab sessions, you will have the guidance of teachers. According to my friend, Sunita ma’am was quite helpful. Some Faculties have exceptional knowledge in the field of Networking and Communication. My friend's guide was also of great help during his project in the final year.
  • Apart from all this, there is decent placement as well not in terms of quality but quantity. Students get placed in companies such as TCS, Tech Mahindra, and Concept Infoway, etc.

From what I heard, there is not too much pressure from Teachers. You are free to do anything. So, make the most of your time at the institute.

Where can I find a detailed account about the life in the girl’s hostel in IGIT, Sarang? How many people are in one room, does it have attached baths, and how are the power supply and water facilities

You probably won’t find a detailed account of the life of a girls hostel at IGIT Sarang anywhere. But, I can definitely give you a brief insight of the same, since I have few friends at the institute.

  • Freshers are given according to Rohini Bhawan. Rooms at Rohini are 6 sharing. Staying with 6 other people is not easy, so you need to adjust.
  • There are no attached bathrooms. There are 4 bathrooms in each corner of the 2-storey hostel. Each bathroom has 3 basins, 3 washrooms, and 3 stalls for baths. Bathrooms are cleaned regularly.
  • Power facilities are good. But there are long power cuts, especially during summer.
  • Water facilities are not good here. Bring disinfectants like Dettol or Savlon with you if you don’t want to get any skin diseases.

Hope this gave you an idea about the life at girl hostel at IGIT Sarang

SM
Subham Sundar Moharana Posted On : March 20th, 2021
B.TECH in EEE from Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla

VSSUT Burla is a much better option than IGIT Sarang. VSSUT, Burla - Being the Oldest engineering institute in the state, has some of the best faculty, a huge library, and a wide-spread Alumni net.

Discussed below are a few important points about VSSUT Burla.

  • For any branch, VSSUT will be a better option, since it has better placement records, campus infrastructure, clubs, and the cutoff rank is also higher.
  • Most importantly it's autonomous so it has its own examinations and curriculum.
  • If you have any problem regarding something you can directly get in contact with the Vice-Chancellor at VSSUT Burla.

The table below gives a brief overview of the institutes.

Particulars

VSSUT Burla

IGIT Sarang

Average CTC

3.6 LPA

5 LPA

Tuition Fee

82,080/Year

33,400/Year

One of my cousins was in the same situation, whether to choose VSSUT or IGIT, and he chose VSSUT. If you look up the statistics you will clearly see VSSUT is much better than IGIT.

What are the events in IGIT, Sarang?

MS
Manisha Singhania Posted On : March 1st, 2021
Diploma from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang (2020)

A friend of mine has told me that IGIT Sarang has the best fests and if someone is enthusiastic about the fests, then it is the place to be.

It is arguably one of the fewer colleges in Odisha in recent years that welcomes the freshers in the grandest fashion through a fest called Consciencia. Students get acquainted with the legacy of the institution right from the get-go through this fest.

There are so many fests in IGIT that sometimes you will lose track of how much you are prepared for the exams.

  • The annual cult lit fest, Horizon is held in the month of February.
  • Another event that is held alongside is the International Model United Nations.
  • The sports carnival of Orissa called Utsahan is held where all the colleges across Orissa participate.
  • A film fest also takes place in the institute where for three days; a film is shown to the students every evening. It’s one of the most anticipated events in the institute.
  • The Fun Fair is held on the 1st of April where the students are free to put their stalls. The students showcase their skills in writing, speaking, debates, and a plethora of other events which also include Mehendi.
  • Resplendida is an event where the prizes for different events are awarded.
  • Apart from these, there are separate branch fests like the Quimica which is organized by the chemical branch fest.
  • The metallurgy branch holds the Admantium fest.
  • The Technovision is held by the CSE branch.

To conclude, all the branches welcome their freshers through their unique fests. It also organize farewells for students who have completed their education at the institution.

The hostel for the first-year students which is more popularly called the Aakash Bhawan accommodates four students in one room. The same can be said for the hostel for the students of the second year which is called the Aryabhatta Bhawan.

The third-year students are allotted the Brahmos Bhawan and the Bhaskar Bhawan. In the former hostel, there are 2 students in one room, and in the latter, there are 4 students.

IGIT Sarang is one of the best government colleges in Orissa. It is also only one government college of Orissa that is eligible to submit an Institutional Development Proposal. The admission process for Electrical Engineering is based on the results of JEE Main and Orissa-JEE.

The NIRF ranking of VSSUT University is 119 all over India. Likewise in IGIT Sarang, the admission process for Production Engineering and Metallurgy is based on the results of JEE.

Tabulated below shows the difference among both institutions:

Particulars

IGIT Sarang

VSSUT Burla

Total course fee

2.89 lakhs

1.12 lakhs

Total seats available

120 seats

60 seats

VSSUT Burla

Is studying mechanical engineering at IGIT, Sarang good?

SB
Sunayana Bose Posted On : March 20th, 2021
Studied at Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang

One of my friends graduated from IGIT this year. Here are a few things that I got to know about the Mechanical branch at IGIT.

Placements:

According to the statistics the placement sector is down in almost all colleges of Odisha. Seeing on the placement statistics of past years hardly a core company came for placement in IGIT.

  • Companies like Vedanta, Jindal, and Bhushan did come for the core sector but the probability of students getting selected is not up to the mark.
  • Most mechanical engineers join TCS or Tech Mahindra in IT. Very few of the students get placed in core companies like Vedanta, Jindal, or Bhushan.

This same situation can be seen in colleges like VSSUT and CET too. But they arrange some off-campus for mechanical students. Going in other campus placement is good in CET followed by VSSUT than IGIT. But that doesn’t make a big difference. Placement is almost the same in these colleges for core companies.

About Mechanical Branch:

The mechanical branch is one of the most strict branches of the institute.

  • It has well-equipped labs or workshops and this is something mechanical engineers brag about.
  • IGIT has more reputed and respected professors in mechanical engineering as compared to other colleges.

The quality of education is average.

It will be better if you opt for CET followed by VSSUT and then IGIT. CET/VSSUT does call mass recruiters as compared to IGIT. IT jobs play the role of saviors since the number of core jobs is quite less. and are not likely to get a boost in near future.
