IIT Tirupati

Congratulations on getting IIT Tirupati for your B.Tech Mechanical. The department is good, and the faculty is highly experienced.

Here are some pros and cons of joining Mechanical at IIT Tirupati-

  1. The batch strength is small, so you won’t face as much competition as the students of other colleges.
  2. The professors are highly qualified, and some of them have retired from prestigious colleges like IIT Kanpur and Madras.
  3. Even the new faculty members are highly qualified and student-friendly.
  4. The curriculum consists of the design course AUTOCAD in first sem, and the 3d design course CREO PARAMETRIC as a core subject in 3rd sem.
  5. These design courses are very interesting and provide good industry exposure. These courses will clear your basics so that you can intern in the design stream without difficulty.
  6. The third year students get internship offers from prestigious companies like Ashok Leyland and L&T. The department students also pursue their research internships at [prestigious institutions like Texas A&M University.

Should I choose IIT Tirupati mechanical or BITS Hyderabad ECE/EEE? At present, I am getting EEE at BITS, Hyderabad but hoping to get ECE in further literations according to previous cutoff scores.

In the present scenario, EEE is a better choice as compared to Mechanical. Moreover, BITS Hyderabad is better than IIT Tirupati in various aspects.

The average package for B.Tech Mechanical at IIT Tirupati is 12.30 LPA (for 2023 placements, as of now). The average package for B.Tech EEE at BITS Hyderabad goes higher than that. Moreover, some companies may offer less packages to IIT Tirupati graduates in comparison to BITS graduates, for the same role.

BITS Hyderabad has a better campus in comparison to IIT Tirupati. The college culture and life is richer at BITS Hyderabad, and even its coding culture is better. You can check the worldwide GSoC college-wise selections. Hyderabad city has ample career opportunities, much more than Tirupati. The startup and entrepreneurial culture of BITS Hyderabad is top notch.

The students of BITS Hyderabad and Goa get the BITS Pilani tag on their degrees, without any mention of their actual campuses. On the other hand, the ‘IIT tag’ holds significance only for the students of the 7 old IITs. BITS campuses follow 0% attendance requirement policy and MIT pedagogy, while IIT Tirupati follows a strict attendance criteria and IITR pedagogy).

Based on these factors, and many others, I would suggest you to opt for BITS Hyderabad ECE/EEE over a core branch in any of the 2nd or 3rd gen IITs.

Which IIT should I choose, IIT Roorkee mechanical or CSE in the new IITs?Which IIT should I choose, IIT Roorkee mechanical or CSE in the new IITs?

It’s better to denounce the sheep mentality and think from your own perspective. If you are attracted to CS because of its lucrative branches, I suggest you not go for new IITs as the placement scenario is not that good.

IIT Roorkee, on the other hand, is a very old Engineering college with an excellent legacy. The rich coding culture motivates even non-CS students to learn coding to apply for software companies. The new IITs soaring in Guwahati and Indore lack the necessary resources and dynamism of coding.

One can always work on their noncore branches and gain additional skills to compensate for their flaws. But one should risk the Institute and always go for the best.

It’s better to choose IIT Roorkee Mechanical than CS in new IITs.

Which is better, IIT Bhubaneswar or BITS Pilani for mechanical engineering?

SS
Sulekha Shakti Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

Both IIT Bhubaneswar and BITS Pilani are good institutions with decent Mechanical Engineering programs. So, it’s hard to choose one institute over another.

Despite being a new IIT, the Mechanical Engineering program in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. This department offers well-experienced faculty members and state-of-the-art laboratories. IIT Bhubaneswar recently signed MoU with many universities for various purposes like research and student exchange. Also, this institute collaborates with foreign universities such as the University of Warwick, University of Southampton, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Western Ontario, University of New York, University of North Dakota USA, and McGill University. Which means excellent research and internship opportunities for the students.

In 2019, 83% of students from the Mechanical Engineering department got placed at IIT Bhubaneswar. Out of 35 students of Mechanical Engineering, 32 students secured positions in campus placement. The average CTC offered was INR 11.44 LPA. PSU’s like ISRO, IOCL, NCCBM participated in the placement to recruit students. A total of 89 companies visited the campus for the placement drive.

BITS Pilani is a well-known private institute with a decent Mechanical Engineering program both in terms of academics and placements. BITS Pilani Placement Trends of 2019 show out of 33 Mechanical Engineering students 23 got placement offers. The average package offered was 6-8 LPA. Whereas, the highest salary package for the domestic placements was 44 LPA. The recruiting companies at this institute included Barclays, IBM, HDFC, Facebook, eBay, Capgemini, Aditya Birla Corp, Capital IQ, etc.

IIT Bhubaneswar takes admission based on JEE Advanced rank and last year the cutoff for Mechanical Engineering was 4003-12065. On the other hand, BITS Pilani takes admission through BITSAT which is another tough exam and in 2019, the Mechanical Engineering cutoff was 313. So, the academic environment is great in both institutes.

The course fee for BITS Pilani is higher compared to IIT Bhubaneswar as it is a private institute. For B.E, the course fee is around 4.23 lakhs/annum in BITS Pilani. Whereas, in IIT Bhubaneswar the course fee is around 2.14 lakh/annum.

IIT Bhubaneswar and BITS Pilani both are good options for mechanical engineering so choose according to your convenience.

Sunita Guha Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech, IIT Bhubaneswar (2020)

Yes, IIT Bhubaneswar will provide you with one of the best laboratories and staff in India for the Mechanical Engineering Course. The college has been constantly working to improve its staff and laboratories since its establishment in 2008. IIT Bhubaneswar has seven schools working under its Guidance: School of Basic Sciences, School of Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences, School of Electrical Sciences, School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management, School of Infrastructure, School of Mechanical Sciences and School of Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. You’ll find separate well-equipped laboratories for each of these schools which facilitate students with good practical exposure. There are laboratories with 30 workstations served by an 18 blade server in the school of Mechanical Engineering. The list of major labs that will help you in the mechanical engineering course are as follows:

  • Material Testing Laboratory
  • Machine & Mechanism Laboratory
  • CAD/CAM/CAE Laboratory
  • Machine Tools & Machining Laboratory
  • CWF Laboratory
  • Advanced Product Development Laboratory
  • Sense & Process Laboratory
  • Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory
  • Heat Transfer Laboratory
  • Artificial Intelligence and Mechatronics Laboratory
  • IC Engine Laboratory
  • Fluid Mechanics Laboratory
  • Micro & Nanoscale Transport Phenomena Laboratory
  • Applied -Thermofluid Laboratory
  • Instrumentation Laboratory
  • Metrology Laboratory

Apart from laboratories, you will also have the support of well-qualified faculties which will not only help you in understanding your course curriculum but also will guide you in your future career. The school of mechanical science employs more than 200 staff. You can visit the official website and easily access the details of all the staff members. The faculties are very friendly with students and are also involved in basic research in their own areas of specialization. However, I believe that it’s the student and his effort which makes him draw maximum benefit and knowledge from the faculties. As the institute provides you with a blend of the best theoretical and practical learning experience, so I’ll recommend you to work hard during the duration of your course.
