How much CGPA is needed for a branch change at IIT Hyderabad to CSE or artificial intelligence?

DD
Devendra Dharani Posted On : May 16th, 2023
M.tech at IIT Hyderabad

Due to the increased demand for specialization, many students can be found transferring their branches to Artificial Intelligence departments since those provide better placement opportunities and high salary packages.

There is no specific CGPA requirement needed for a branch change. However, in accordance with the branch change policy, no department can take more than 10 % of its current number of students through the provision of Branch Change. So a branch that has 50 students can only admit 5 top students from other branches.

Hence it can be concluded that there is no specific CGPA required for branch change. It all depends on the competition between the students. However, based on one of my friends' experiences, the approximate CGPA required for branch change to AI or CS is around 9.6-9.8 in the first semester. Please note that this is just an approximate figure as there are no fixed criteria.

Which one is a better career option, ISB's Data Science Certification course or an Executive M.Tech on Data Science from IIT Hyderabad?

DS

It’s difficult to determine the best career option among Data Science Certification courses and an Executive MTech in Data Science from IIT Hyderabad unless I know what your specific goals are. If you are on the lookout for a degree, then an MTech in IIT Hyderabad will suffice for it, but if you are fine with a certificate with a brand name then ISB’s Data Science Certification course will work in your favor.

In my opinion, what matters more than the institute is what you have learned from it. Institutes are just a stepping stone in shaping your career and it's the individual's intellect and will to succeed that eventually drives them to succeed.

Moreover, Analytics is a very broad field, and only after determining what you want to do, can you actually decide the best Institute for it. You can find many institutes, training companies, and MOOCs for the same. It's very crucial to determine the best source for you in order to kick-start a successful career.

Which is better: M.Tech in CSE from IIT Hyderabad or M.tech in theoretical computer science in IIT Guwahati?

DS

Assuming that you are research-oriented, I suggest you choose IIT Guwahati MTech in theoretical CS rather than MTech in CSE from IIT Hyderabad. From the choice of your research-related subjects, theoretical CS seems to be the best option. Moreover, the Mathematics and Computer Science department of IIT Guwahati is extremely good with a knowledgeable faculty base.

MTech at IIT Hyderabad on the other hand is more focused on campus-related work rather than actual theoretical knowledge of the subjects.

It’s important to check if the research interests of the faculty align with your subject interests.

Which should I prefer among IIT Hyderabad EE and IIIT Hyderabad CSE?

PV
Prarthi Vyas Posted On : May 16th, 2023
Studied at IIT Hyderabad

I don’t think you should even consider joining IIT Hyderabad EE when you have the option of IIIT Hyderabad CSE given the fact that it’s the 2nd best in India after IIT Bombay CSE. The course is very challenging and IIIT Hyderabad does not have a lively atmosphere like IITs. Rather, the entire focus is on CS courses and research work. Although the campus is very small and lacks any extracurricular facilities, it’s heaven for coders. The academic workload is terrible with intense competition among peers.

  • So, if you are certain of your genuine interest in coding and are ready to get committed to it for the rest of your life, nothing will serve you better than IIIT Hyderabad.
  • But if you prefer a more flexible learning environment with more courses to choose from, IIT Hyderabad EE is the right option for you. Here, you can explore more electives apart from EE and in fact, EE itself has some computer courses like data science, machine learning, etc.

Overall, both are excellent choices, and it’s only a matter of preference. Go for IIIT if you are certain of CS and go for IIT if you aren’t sure of your inclinations. Either way, you will not be disappointed.

Do the IIT Hyderabad hostel rules permit local students to go home after classes on Saturday evening and return on Monday for their morning classes?

PV

Yes, IIT Hyderabad hostel rules permit local students to go home after classes on Saturday and come back on Monday. However, in my opinion, I don’t think this is a good practice as you will be missing out on a major part of your IIT experience.

In reality, it’s the hostel life at IIT that shapes your personality and helps you grow as a person. Only academics cannot help you shape your career. Despite the mediocre hostel facilities, IITians always miss the incredible college life they lived. During weekends students look forward to many activities including interactions with their batchmates and seniors. While some may deem it as unimportant, trust me it’s the most important part of an IITian. The lessons you will learn from your seniors will help you go a long way in your life.

Which is the best order of preference for core branches in IIT Hyderabad, NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : May 16th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

The best order of preference for core branches in the aforementioned institutes would be

IIT Hyderabad>NIT Trichy>NIT Warangal=NIT Surathkal. Here are a few points justifying my order of preference.

  • IIT Hyderabad has the best faculty and peer pool among other institutes as it admits top JEE rank fees for its core branches. The infrastructure is also great because it is a new IIT decked with modernized facilities. In addition to the core courses, there is a popular and industry-relevant course at IIT Hyderabad called Engineering Sciences. It’s an excellent course to explore and identify your interests.
  • NITs are also known for their excellent faculty, infrastructure, and high demand among Indian students, but are considered inferior to IITs. It’s the structured curriculum that raises the academic standards of top NITs. The top NITs have produced great engineers in the past and have a strong alumni base.

Ultimately, go for IIT if you want to pursue a Master's from a foreign university as the NIT tag packs global recognition in comparison to the IIT tag.

Which one is better for the MTech: fluid and energy system in IIT Hyderabad or thermal in NIT Trichy?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 16th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

The better institute for MTech out of IIT Hyderabad and NIT Trichy depends on what you want to do after MTech.

For those inclined towards research work and are willing to go for higher education like Ph.D. from a foreign university, IIT Hyderabad is the most suitable option. This is because it is a new IIT and thus has the best research and lab facilities in comparison to older IITs and NITs. The MTech program here will bring about a drastic change in your overall personality.

For those who want to get employed as soon as possible, then NIT Trichy is a preferable choice. This is because

  • The sole purpose of students coming here is to get placed with lucrative packages
  • The initial days witness top firms after which only average companies pay a visit to the campus
  • The placement percentage is almost 100% every year
  • The teachers do it encourage research culture at all.

This does not mean that IIT Hyderabad does not have placement opportunities. It’s just that for placements specifically, NIT is better but overall IIT Hyderabad is the best option.

SY
Seema Yadav Posted On : November 10th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad

IIT Hyderabad is considered to be one of the 2nd Generation IITs initiated by Govt. of India and shares strong links with IT and Industrial Hubs. It was ranked 8th for Engineering by NIRF 2020 and ranked 198th in Asia by QS World Rankings.

IIT Hyderabad is the first institute in India to offer a B.Tech program in Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence at IITs:

To keep up with the increasing industry demands of proficient professionals in the field of Artificial Intelligence, many IITs offer diploma, certificate, and Ph.D. courses in AI.

  • IIT Roorkee has recently launched an Online Certification Artificial Intelligence Course in collaboration with Coursera whose duration is Six Months.

  • Two faculties from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have worked closely with Great Learning to develop and launch a three-month deep learning certification program.

  • IIT Delhi has developed an AI system that will help medical practitioners use a low-powered electronic hardware system to diagnose health conditions such as malaria, TB, cervical cancer, and intestinal parasites in milliseconds.

  • In order to meet the growing demand for students, IIT-G has introduced a new MTech program in data science. IIT Madras also offers dual degree specializations in robotics and data science.

  • IIT Roorkee offers online certification courses in courses on emerging technologies like AI, machine learning, computer vision, etc.

However, IIT Hyderabad is the first institute to offer a B.Tech program in Artificial Intelligence and puts much emphasis on core areas such as Natural Language Processing, Game Theory, Reinforcement Learning, Multi-agent systems, Search, Planning, and Reasoning.

AI - IIT Hyderabad:

Admission:

  • Admission to the B.Tech AI program at IIT Hyderabad is done through scores obtained in the JEE Advanced Entrance Test.

  • According to the 2019 data, the required cutoff for securing a seat in AI at IIT Hyderabad is 657.

  • The BTech course fee at the institute is 2.23 lakhs per annum.

Placement:

  • Top recruiters at IIT Hyderabad include Accenture, Deshaw, Oracle, Microsoft, ISRO, L&T, MRF, Qualcomm, and Infosys.

  • The highest package offered was 53.79 LPA while the average salary was 16.74 LPA.

  • The overall percentage of placed students was 80%.

  • The placement season of 2019 saw an 80% surge in new international recruiters.

IIT Hyderabad is a 2nd Generation IITs which offers courses with smaller credits and has brilliant tie-ups with industry all around the globe. The recently launched Artificial Intelligence B.Tech program is high on demand.

Artificial Intelligence is the ultimate future of Technology and the industry requires more qualified professionals in the field. So, it is safe to say that more IITs should follow the footsteps of IIT Hyderabad by offering BTech in Artificial Intelligence.

Why should I choose IIT Hyderabad over BITS Plink forces?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : May 16th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

Here are a few reasons that might convince you to choose IIT Hyderabad over BITS

  • Academics: IIT Hyderabad offers a better academic environment because of its fractal system. Additionally, its 3d printing in the 1st sem, virtual branch engineering science, and double major option after 3rd year make it an excellent choice in terms of academics.
  • Infrastructure: In this aspect, BITS has a clear advantage over IIT Hyderabad which is still in its development stage. IIT Hyderabad lacks sports facilities as well as natural beauty.
  • Sports: Owing to the inter-IIT sports fests, the sports culture at IIT Hyderabad is much better than at BITS.
  • Hostel facilities: The hostels of both the institutes are equally good but the permanent hostels of IIT Hyderabad with single room occupancy, pod-culture, the radiant cooling system in summer, and the architecture of the hostels make it a clear winner
  • Fest: Elan and nvision, the 2 IIT Hyderabad fests have a great reputation but BITS fests are at another level. Also, BITS has both technical and cultural fests whereas IIT Hyderabad has a single techno-cultural fest.
  • Placements: The placement scenario at IIT Hyderabad is much better than BITS Pilani and is expected to improve in the coming future.

Ultimately, it’s a matter of preferences and my answers merely guide you in the same.

Which is better, mechanical engineering in IIT Hyderabad or engineering physics at IIT Roorkee?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : May 22nd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

It is difficult to determine which is better; Mechanical Engineering in IIT Hyderabad or Engineering Physics at IIT Roorkee without knowing what your expectations from the degree are and your personal preferences. Nevertheless, I am here to spill a few facts about EP at IIT Roorkee.

  • Engineering Physics at IIT Roorkee is a multidisciplinary branch, with courses from Physics, Electrical, Electronics, Mathematics, and Chemistry departments.
  • The courses included in the curriculum are quite demanding and can be really challenging for those who have little interest in Science
  • Engineering Physics provided no core placements after completion of the BTech degree.
  • Those who have an interest in a specific field of Physics can pursue research as it has great scope.
  • You can also work as a scientist in DRDO or ISRO.
  • You can also opt for fields like Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, or Quantitative Finance where people with majors in CSE, Applied Maths, and Physics are preferred.
  • Software Engineering roles are also available for EP students although it is challenging to manage the academics along with programming.

I would recommend you go for an easier branch that has less workload so that you can focus well on coding and get placed right after BTech in IIT.
