The University of Jammu has announced to offer courses like snow craft, disaster management for the Army personnel, soldiers and officers of the Indian army.

New Delhi: The Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Umesh Rai has announced the university is planning to take a landmark initiative by commencing mountain and snow craft and disaster management courses for officers & soldiers of the Indian army.

He stated that an agreement in this respect was signed between the Jammu University and the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), Gulmarg on May 3, 2023. 

Speaking during the signing event, Rai said that the university is taking a historic initiative by introducing certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in mountain craft and disaster management and snow craft and disaster management for the jawans and officers,while also acknowledging the experiential learning and rigorous training of the Army personnel and their contribution to the country.

In addition, he said that the university would launch three skill-based certificate programmes in disaster management in partnership with HAWS, with a particular emphasis on search, rescue, and survival, as well as rock climbing and mountain rescue for its students.

According to Rai, the High Altitude Warfare School and the Disaster Management Centre of the Geology Department will jointly run these programmes.
