DU Introduces Single Girl Child Quota

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has unveiled a new quota for single girl child as part of the supernumerary seats across all its programs. This will be effective from the 2024-2025 academic session. The DU UG admission process 2024 is already in progress.

During a press conference, DU officials also started the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for undergraduate admissions, covering 69 colleges and departments with a total of 71,000 available seats.

How will the Single Girl Child Quota be Implemented?

When asked about the process for identifying single girl children, DU Registrar Vikas Gupta stated, "We are developing the modalities for verifying claims." Last year, DU established a supernumerary category to offer admissions to orphan students, allowing one male and one female student per program in each college.

He also added, “this initiative is a first for the university and aims to increase opportunities for single girl children by including them in the supernumerary seats’ category”. This policy emphasizes DU's continued commitment to making its admission process more inclusive.

DU Admission 2024 to be Conducted in Two Phases

  • The admissions process will be held in two phases: the first phase involves registration on the CSAS portal, and the second phase is for seat allotment.
  • Additionally, there will be a mid-entry option for applicants who missed the initial CSAS registration, available upon payment of a non-refundable fee of INR 1,000. However, these candidates will not be able to claim seats already allocated to those who registered during the initial phase.
  • The second phase of DU admissions will commence after the CUET UG results are declared. The CUET UG exams are currently in progress, and the results are scheduled to be released on June 30, 2024.

***The CSAS website is now open for student registrations and will remain accessible for about a month. Like previous year, Delhi University will accept admissions for both UG and PG courses on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores. The admissions for PhD programs will also be conducted using CUET scores.

DU Admission 2024 to SOL and NCWEB

DU will also begin admissions for the School of Open Learning (SOL) and the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB) next month. The registration portal for SOL and NCWEB programs will be operational from June 3, 2024. SOL Director Payal Mago announced that admissions to bachelor's programs in SOL and NCWEB will be based on class 12th marks. However, some PG courses in SOL will also consider CUET scores for admissions.

SOL is offering nine UG and eight PG programs, while NCWEB will offer 12 BA and B.Com combinations across its 26 affiliated colleges. For DU's postgraduate, B.Tech, and 5-year integrated law programs, which are currently accepting registrations, the tentative date for the first allocation list announcement is June 20, 2024.

This year, over 25.99 lakh candidates applied for various DU programs through CUET UG, with 7.63 lakh unique candidates. The most popular courses were B.Tech, with over 1.60 lakh applications, B.Com Hons with 1.24 lakh applications, B.Com with 1.17 lakh applications, and English Hons with 99,792 applications.
