Prof. Ananda V. is the HOD at GSSS Simha Subba Mahalakshmi First Grade College. He did M.Com and KSET from DOS in commerce, Manasagangothri, Mysore, Karnataka. He has two years of experience in MCM and Jnanadeepa First Grade College and 3 years in Sarada Vilas PU College as a commerce faculty. He is currently working in GSSS SSFGC as an Assistant Professor in 2020.

Ques. Being a faculty of this college, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Ans. I have to maintain discipline. I have to create discipline among the students. I used to put all my efforts into getting a good result. I used to create awareness of opportunities like market trends, and I always share every detail with my students, like all the current scenario changes and all the trend changes. 

Ques. How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

Ans. I am not a very strict person, but I always maintained a distance from the students. Because it’s good for me and also for them. I don’t interfere with students’ personal matters. I always talk professionally, and I believe in professionalism.

Ques. How do you try to bring in a practical approach toward subjects and make them industry-oriented?

Ans. I used to give some case study problems to the students that were more industry-oriented. By solving a case study, students learn about real facts and current scenarios. With the case study problem, I used to give them some personal questions that were also industry-oriented.

Ques. What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain the necessary skills?

Ans. In our department, we used to organize various club activities and industrial visits. There are also some orientation courses in our department, like CA and CS, which are also important to enhance the necessary skills.

Ques. How do you strategize the curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it befitting for the students?

Ans. We always follow a plan and strategy for the curriculum, and whenever required, we update the plan to make it befitting for the students. From the start of the semester, we used to do it. Before starting the semester, we gave them a plan of action, and according to that, we worked.

Ques. What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department or how does your department prepare students for higher education?

Ans. Our department has a great placement record. In the last week, there were also 25 students, and out of those, 16 got placed in a good and reputed MNC company. The average package is 4 LPA. There were various placement training we used to do every semester. Also, there is a Bizotic Talent Company, which used to come regularly to guide and shape the students. There are also Aptitude, GD & PI classes, communication training, and presentation topics for every weakness.

Ques. How do you help your student cope with the competition being so high in the outside world?

Ans. I used to give them ideas about market trends and how the market runs and give them information from resource persons. There are various industry talk classes where many experienced people used to come and give them ideas about how to compete in the market and how to cope with any situation. We also used to tell them about possible outcomes.

Ques. Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

Ans. There are various clubs like the BBA club, the finance club, the marking club, the sports club, etc. Every year we used to conduct various sports, like annual sports, and there are various games that all the students participate in. There are various cultural activities. Various festivals we used to do There is one of the biggest cultural festivals, Gita Seamitha. Also, there are so many events we used to organize, like stock market events and hackathons.

Ques. What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department?

Ans. There are various types of students from various areas with different mentalities. So, understanding them is a big challenge. But other than these, there are no problems that I’m facing.

Ques. How does the department enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them as per industry standards?

Ans. Yes, normally we are taking courses from various websites and some distance education to enhance our skills. Like now I’m doing a Diploma in Accounting, Diploma in Business Administration But other than this, we have the Faculty Development Programme, which helps every faculty member enhance their skills and knowledge and develop themselves.

Ques. What do you see as the department’s greatest strengths and how can they be enhanced?

Ans. Our department’s greatest strengths are my colleagues and students. We have coordination and a friendly nature. e.g., when you are a student, you don’t know anything about future courses, add-on courses, etc., so in our department, we used to talk with each and every student regularly, understand their problems, and help them. One more strength is placement training. In Mysore, there are limited colleges that give placement training, but we have a separate team for that.

Ques. What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

Ans. I would like to suggest students do hard work, concentrate more on their studies, and don’t follow the crowd. Focus on change, trends, and academics.

Ques. What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

Ans. Here, discipline is the main factor. Students are very disciplined, and it helps them grow their ideas and skills.

Ques. What are some valuable insights into the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?

Ans. We believe in more practical knowledge. Theoretical knowledge is good when you are on campus, but when you go outside, the only thing that is most important is practical knowledge.

Ques. What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?

Ans. If I talk about my department, then BBA department students can develop businesses like they can become an entrepreneur or they can do an MBA, as we know that nowadays it’s very popular. B.Com students can go for CA. We are providing orientation and special classes for that. Also, there are various finance careers they can choose from, like banking, insurance, and taxation. In India, there are four big MNC companies that take BBA and B.Com. students. So even if they are not getting placement they can do their own business also.
