Prof. D.K.Mathur is the Director of the School of Hotel Management, Jaipur National University, Jaipur. He holds a postgraduate degree in Tourism Management and a degree in Hotel Management. He has vast experience in the field of Hospitality and Tourism. He was awarded a fellowship to London, UK under the UNDP program, executed by ILO, Italy and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India to pursue advanced study in Food and Beverage Service and Management.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Assuring effective teaching and research so that students acquire industry-ready skills”

Being the Director of the Department of Hotel Management, my roles and responsibilities are to ensure effective teaching and research in the department. This allows to equip the students with industry-ready skills and to make them capable of self-employment opportunities.

How will you ensure that students are able to cope up with offline mode after studying online?

“Personal guidance and mentoring to impart the importance of classroom learning”

The students would be personally mentored by faculty members by explaining to them that learning cannot be zoomed in from the comforts of home and online classes cannot be a substitute for the classroom. We know that learning requires discipline and alacrity. Zooming in from their homes is not a way of teaching and learning so I will motivate my students for classroom learning. 

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“The department organizes industrial visits to gain a better understanding of their processes” 

Being the Director, I ensure the effective participation of faculty members and students in practical classes. Various industrial visits are organized by the department to understand their working. We have developed and opted for unique practices for the overall growth of students in terms of rich value, pleasant personality, and good communication. We help them by preparing them with a strong academic background, good grooming standards and employable skills.

Do you have any extracurricular activities for students' interests?

“Annual university fest, Cookery competition, Hunar Se Rozgar Tak, etc”

Extra-curricular and Co-Curricular activities are an intrinsic part of our school. Apart from the annual university fest, the department organizes various co-curricular activities like the Cookery competition, Hunar Se Rozgar Tak, Quiz competition, etc. These activities are conducted to help students remain interested and involved in college life. 

What are your thoughts about the hybrid mode of education (mixing online and offline media)?

“Helps to provide greater access to education and accommodating different learning styles”

The pandemic across the world made things uncertain. This is a welcome step as the present era of education calls for collaborative teaching-learning experiences that are expected to renovate the traditional education system. The benefits of hybrid learning are numerous, from providing greater access to education to catering to different learning styles simultaneously. It helps alleviate some of the problems associated with student absenteeism. It is only through fully understanding these various benefits that you can start to understand why hybrid learning is emerging as such an important concept. One of the main benefits of hybrid learning is the improved level of flexibility it offers and this kind of flexibility is becoming extremely important within the education sector.

After pursuing this course, the students can have a bright future in the industries like Guest Relations, Tourism, Event Planning, etc. The past and present era has witnessed that hospitality and tourism industries played a significant role in the development of the world by maintaining peace. The reason is evolving the understanding of culture and beliefs.
