Mrs. Pooja Kathuria is the current Placement Head at Desh Bhagat University Mandi Gobindgarh ( Punjab). She has done a Master of Business Administration as a part of her academics after which she garnered a work total experience of 14 years in the education sector. Mrs. Kathuria also received the Param Patra award for her contribution to the field of job placements.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

I have always worked with a collaborative and participating style of leadership were each of the members collectively takes up tasks and implement ideas to reach a common goal or mission. I have always believed in the influential decentralization of the power system for effective decision making.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the students are?

I think that the students at Desh Bhagat University are the real stakeholders. Our institution is dedicated and works day and night for the betterment of students. We have also introduced an all-inclusive system to get feedback from students so that we can ensure more and more growth and improvement. Our top priority is to create an environment that is conducive to learning and growth for the students.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

I think the top priority of our institution is ensuring the employability of the students. We have chalked out a comprehensive plan to improve the technical skills of our students. We are gradually transitioning from purely technical education to a multi-disciplinary mode of education keeping in view the rapid changes in the knowledge landscape. This is especially important keeping in mind the various dramatic scientific and technological advances, particularly in mathematics, computer science, and data science.

What do you like people to know about your college they may not know?

Our campus is very old and has a longstanding reputation in the region for education. We are deeply invested and care about the careers of each individual pupil. Every faculty is concerned and puts in 200% effort to guide students in achieving their targets and getting great outcomes.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

Desh Bhagat University’s programs are typically skill based and industry-oriented based with a focus on careers. Along with training and internship, we are also dedicated to polishing our student’s communication skills and enhancing their personalities.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program in DBU?

As all our programs are professional skill base programs with a focus on preparing students for the professional world. To do this, we arrange industry visits to get hands-on knowledge on their subject. Additionally, we also arrange visits from guest faculties and industry experts. There are also regular assignments given to the students that are tailored to improve their learning.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for their future?

In our interaction with youth today, one major concern that stands out is, they want quick results in a short amount of time. If they do not get the desired results as they want it to, they get restless, lose patience and eventually become fed up. Students should always keep in mind that "there is no shortcut to success". They should keep working on their fundamentals and create a solid foundation by always aiming to exceed their limits.
