Amrutha Ouseph is the Assistant Professor of the BBA Department at KMM College of Arts & Science, Kerala. She has pursued a B.Com. and M.Com. in Finance and Taxation, an MBA in Finance and a PG Diploma in Logistics. She has more than 7 years of experience in teaching and has worked as a lecturer at Polytechnic College and a faculty member at Vidyabharthi College. Furthermore, she was the Head of the Department of BBA at Kerala Steds Academy.

Being a faculty member of the BBA Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the college? 

Being a teacher, our main responsibilities include assessing students’ strengths and shortcomings and steering them to the finest practices. We create an environment that fosters academic excellence, student success, and personal growth while also advancing the goals and mission of the institution.


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

We need to spend time with them individually to get to know them better. Treat your students with respect. Seeing you respect them, their wishes, and boundaries will show students you care about them. Ultimately, they will return the respect they receive, thus resulting in a sturdy relationship between you and your students.


How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

In our department, we involve experiential and inquiry learning, which helps the students gain more knowledge and skills about the industry. Furthermore, we involve intelligence and thinking-based teaching along with emotion and motivation-based teaching, which provides the students with a practical skill set. 


What are the best practices offered by the department to the students that help them gain necessary skills? 

We organize hands-on training sessions and skill development programs for the students. Apart from that, we have a very effective placement cell that provides the students with internship and research opportunities. The mentorship and professional development programs continuously improve the skills of the students and make them future-ready.

What are your views upon the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

Students learn about industry standards through placement cells, which also increase their employability. Students are given a realistic picture of the work market they will be entering, and it is crucial for them to know the ins and outs of the corporate world as freshmen.


Do you have any extracurricular activities or programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

In our departments, we provide an abundance of extracurricular activities. such as department days, culinary festivals, athletic events, dance performances, arts festivals, and career development seminars.


When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

To equip students with the necessary information, abilities, morals, and empathy to tackle obstacles in their personal and professional lives. to fulfil human potential in order to take advantage of many opportunities in the future. to improve the faculty, staff, and students' new teaching and learning process.


What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train/teach the students?

Tools like visual schedules, study aids, and graphic organizers can be used as interventions. Students can also be seated close to the teacher. Interventions can be one-on-one or small-group instruction for the classroom curriculum or necessary skills that will allow the student to acquire the curriculum in the classroom.


What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

One method of visualizing your version of success is to acknowledge your aspirations. Acknowledging your educational goals will help you better understand your values, which you can then utilize to drive yourself to reach your definition of success.
