Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology

You have held key positions at the educational institute throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Actually, we are a professional engineering college, so we have to see the industry related academic activities in our college. So, because technology is changing day by day, we have to interact with industry people based on the requirements. We have to develop a curriculum that will be helpful to the students.

As the principal of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology, what is your leadership philosophy and how would you describe your leadership style?

First, we have to see that how far and how best the students are getting regarding the academic activities not only the classroom teaching, apart from that, we have to encourage the students regarding the internships which are related to the industry and we have to do the projects, academic projects by considering the case studies nearby the Oregon, the education sector or nearby villages. Suppose we have a pharma industry located near to the college. So, we have to discuss with HRs, technical managers, what are the problems they are facing or we will try to help them in resolving the problems.

Being the principal of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology. How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your college?

As I already told you, depending upon the industry requirement, you have to train the students. Either in the compression sector or more sectors like engineering or Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. So nowadays every student is going for software jobs but even though they are software jobs we have to counsel the students and motivate the students in the industrial sector like Mechanical, Civil, Electrical. Nowadays, Kia Motors is there, so we have to send our students to Kia Motors. So apart from software jobs these people are also eligible to get the jobs in mechanical related or similarly electrical related industrial visits. Also, we have to encourage the students or we have a steel plant in Visakhapatnam. We have to send the students along with the faculty members to see what are the processes going on or what are the facilities they are providing to the students. Generally, people are thinking that for software jobs, not only software jobs but for sector jobs are going to be useful. At the same time, we are also doing some training to the Gate because GATE examination after B.Tech. some of the students are interested to go for MTech exam that is will be through the GATE exam. So some of the people like public sector company. They are also considering the students who are qualified in the Gate examinations. So apart from the academics, we also increase like CAT exam, some of the students may be interested to go for MBA exam. So, we have to give training, some classes, special classes to the students, those who are interested who go for Gate examinations or cat examinations. Some of the students may go for abroad, so for that we have to invite some consultancies to Orient it or to make awareness how to crack that GRE profile.

The education system in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

As we know that in foreign countries generally, class hours will be less and practical hours will be more. That is why our Indian education system has also started opting for that system. That is why in the fine layer, a complete six months internship program is introduced by the universities as well as AICTE. All are interested in going for a six months complete internship in industry.

How does the curriculum of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology ensure the best practice of industry?

As I said before, we have signed MOUs with the industries, and software companies. So, we invited the people from the industries to give seminars or workshops to our students. Our MBA faculty members also went to the industries to talk about the HR policies or time management policies, what their people are known to make them aware that the workers are class 4 employees or workers are at least grade one employees those are working in the industries. It is a mutual coordination between industry and our college. That is called industry interaction.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

For this question, our management is encouraging the poor students to give some scholarships. We are giving scholarships to 10% of the class students. Suppose in 60 batches of students we are giving scholarships to six students every semester in the name of our founder, Dr. Shankar Rao. We are giving scholarships to encourage the students to get a competitive spirit in between them. Not only scholarships, we also provide some benefits to poor students.
