What students say about RWTH Aachen University
Likes
- Professors mainly teach their own research and expect you to know the basics beforehand.
- I applied by researching the job portal on the University website and sending an initiative application to various chairs, along with my resume. I explained that we could be a good match for each other.
- However, the ability to find a job depends mostly on the students capabilities and the demand at that point in time.
- So, in terms of infrastructure, facilities, and providing a startup environment, incubators, and digital accelerators, it was good.
- Finding accommodation in Germany can be a bit challenging due to the increasing number of incoming students.
- The faculty at RWTH Aachen is one of the best faculties one will find for their educational journey.
- My focus was on nanotechnology and quantum technology, and this institute has the best faculty for that.

- German universities offer quality education at 1/3rd or even 1/4th the cost of american colleges. I already was learning German, and being a mechanical engineering student, it seemed like the right choice for me.,
- State of the art infrastructure, low tuition fees, happening student life, student benefits, world class research in numerous fields. These are the major plus points.
- Dislikes:
- Weak placement support, the courses are in english but the job market demands german language. Students are not made aware of this. Almost no lab work is included in the curriculum, even for production-related subjects.
Overview:
Masters at RWTH was a dream come true for me. More than any technical or educational learning, I gained life lessons. Educationally, the most beneficial part was my master thesis. I enjoyed working hands-on at the laboratories. Germany is a suitable destination for higher studies, if you want value for your money and you don't wish to drown in student debt. Make every day count- you will have to grab opportunities, they will not come to you easily. Be aware of the job market beforehand and seek help when required. Master the german language if you want to settle down after your masters.
Fees:
13,500 EUR for three semesters (90 credits).

- RWTH Aachen is one of the most reknowned and prestigious university in the world and also the top ranking college in Germany in fields of Technology and science. It’s worth mentioning that the courses are not a cakewalk rather they are quite challenging as the end goal of the university is to help students to be the master of the subjects that they are studying.,
- Its also not very easy to secure a place at RWTH Aachen University that easily as the application documents are scrutinised by the best of the best professors and only if they find your background, DGPA, internships, and SOP relevant and good enough then only you secure a place. All in all the college grooms you according to the industry standards and make you ready to tackle any real world problems.

This is also focusing mainly on students who did bachelors in Non - CS or IT background. There is also a mandatory internship in course curriculum which give us a work experience in Germany leading to getting a full time job in Germany as Data Analyst or Data Scientist.
- Dislikes:
- The course is bit more towards Optimization and Heuristics. The courses related to Deep Learning and NLP is bit less compared to the industry standards. There are less hands on projects in master courses. There are some courses which can be put into electives
Overview:
It was a beautiful experience and steep learning curve. It helped me a lot have a lateral thinking in Data related tasks. I can help any person or company to get insights about data and suggest them easiest way to visualize the data.

- RWTH Aachen is one the best ranked universities for mechanical engineering, and it was a no-brainer to choose it and my course once i received the opportunity! Although my course wasn't free, it was quite affordable compared to other universities in Europe and the United States. As previously mentioned, the amount of research opportunities are high and I was able to choose a track that reflected my interests. Finally, once you know the German language, the job market is also good, and studying in RWTH Aachen will give you an additional boost!,
- There was a plethora of student assistant and research opportunities, available at any field you are interested in. The timings were flexible and there was no restriction on the total duration of the study. The university professors were very supportive and are willing to help you with any problems with the subject.
- Dislikes:
- The examinations were extremely hard, and some went beyond challenging! It needs to be noted that studying in a technical university will take away most of your time, leaving you less for your personal stuff (when compared to FH universities). The university was also spread across the city, unlike those that are bounded within a campus. This sometimes resulted in annoying transport between the classes.
Overview:
My overall experience at RWTH Aachen has been nothing short of exceptional!! The research opportunities, amazing faculty, and a diverse international community enriched my academic journey. No to mention the support from the student bodies during the difficult times, especially the pandemic. In a nutshell, my time there has been transformative, and I am grateful for the invaluable experiences and friendships I've gained.

- I chose to pursue my Masters in Germany because of its reputation in having the highest standards of Engineering and Science. The education is Germany is nearly free with zero tuition fees, thus an economic vantage to pursue higher education here. Being one of the TU9 Universities, RWTH Aachen receives a lot of Federal funding, thus making it a good research hub.,
- Also, RWTH Aachen has the reputation of providing a very international environment comparatively. Also, the vast alumni base of RWTH Aachen is something one can tap to build a good network. All in all, these were reasons enough to choose RWTH Aachen as my destination pursue my master’s studies.,
- RWTH Aachen, situated in western part of Germany, is one of the TU9 Universities. The University provides an international environment to support your interpersonal growth in parallel with your education. The different Chairs at the University provides with a plethora of opportunities to pursue different research avenues and gain experiences that could help an individual to learn relevant Engineering skills.,
- Apart from the research opportunities, great labs, and awesome environment, RWTH Aachen has one of the best set of Professors that I have come across. The way education is imparted here is very intuitive. The alumni base of RWTH Aachen is also very broad and spread across the globe. Almost all the alumni from the University hold a very reputed position in various Engineering and Management giants.,
- This in-turn provides a great networking opportunity to an individual. Also, the semester ticket provided by the University for the semester contribution allows one to travel across the huge state of NRW for free. The town of Aachen is cute and welcoming, with a relatively international crowd. Also, sharing the border with The Netherlands and Belgium, Aachen allows one to explore these two EU nations with relative ease.
- Dislikes:
- There is not much to dislike about the University. Although, the genuine impression on the education system of Germany is that it requires some effort to complete your degree. The subjects are taught in great details. Being a TU (Technical University), the courses taught here are research oriented. The course structure is very vast in both length and breadth.,
- So, one needs to put in genuine efforts to understand the concepts to clear the subjects. Also, there might be some pre-requisite course from the bachelor’s that one needs to take to be eligible for their thesis work. This can be a bit overwhelming as they are bachelor level courses and seems to be a bit tougher.
Overview:
The overall experience at RWTH Aachen was very enriching and fulfilling. My expectations with respect to the course contents were met. I was able to experience different cultures and make new friends from different parts of the world. I was able to fill my knowledge gaps and expand my knowledge base during my master’s journey. I was also able to grow my professional network. All in all, the experience has shaped me into a better and efficient engineer.
Fees:
There is no tuition fees. Although, there is a semester contribution of roughly 310€ and one gets a semester ticket that allows one to travel across the state of NRW for free.

- Good education and good salary. Distinguished professors. Family friendly work environment.,
- Many distinguished professors work at this university (e.g., Wil van der Aalst for Data Science, Bastian Leibe for Computer Vision, etc.) and attending their classes is a unique opportunity.,
- Moreover, as a Master Student, there are many opportunities to work up to 20 hrs/week as a student assistant (not doing mundane work, but working on scientific topics relevant to your studies). The renumeration is pretty good and you can expect around 1000 euro per month. If the job is related to computer / computational science, you perhaps won't need even German for your work.,
- For a candidate in a PhD program, most faculties provide a proper Salary that is competitive (or even sometimes more than) what you get in the Industry. If you are funded full time on a public service contract (TVL E13), one can expect a take-home salary starting from around 2900 euro per month. The salary increases every year by roughly 5% and there are christmas bonuses.
- Dislikes:
- The administration authorities (e.g., HR) mostly speak only German.,
- Sometimes, you have to struggle to get an appointment at the foreign office when you want to extend your residence permit.,
- Sometimes, there are more paper works that might seem unnecessary.
Overview:
The overall experience was amazing. Great faculties, good education and decent opportunities and remuneration. It is great for students.
Fees:
There was no tuition fee. There was a social contribution fee of 300 euro per semester.
- Likes:
- Because it has high student to faculty ratio and it's amongst the top 100 universities of the world.,
- It's quite welcoming and supporting with the International students. My University provides lots of opportunities to excel in the respective fields of the students and it provides various aids to support the education of the students. Apart from this, they also help with accommodation facilities.
- Dislikes:
- There is nothing specific to dislike about my university since it's quite welcoming and supporting with international students. So according to my point of view, it depends upon the students how they overcome with hurdles instead of criticizing the University.
Overview:
My Overall experience with the University is really good. I like the atmosphere here and the infrastructure. The University has lots of things to offer to the students such as sports, leisure activities, quality education, commendable faculties, placements etc.
Fees:
It's a public university so there is no tuition fee at all.
