Hi Everyone, Registrations for CAT 2023 have increased by a record 30% with 3.3 lakh total applicants, highest since 1977. Out of these, 38% or 1.17 lakh are female applicants, 3% more than last year.

CAT registrations will not impact your chances.. you just need 1 seat in an IIM. Focus on that.

Hello, A glass contains 500cc of milk and a cup contains 500cc of water. From the glass,150cc of milk is transferred to the cup and mixed thoroughly. Next,150cc of this mixture is transferred from the cup to the glass. Now,the amount of water in the glass and the amount of milk in the cup are in the ratio

Hi sanjay, I performed very badly in CAT but very well in XAT. I think the ability to switch sections at your own pace in XAT helps, but also it depends on the individual.
Hi Navjyot, The correct answer is C: 1:1. Let's break down the steps and calculate the amount of milk and water in each container after each transfer: Initially: Glass: 500cc milk, 0cc water Cup: 0cc milk, 500cc water After transferring 150cc of milk from the glass to the cup: Glass: 500cc-150cc=350cc milk, 0 cc water Cup: 150cc milk, 500cc water After transferring 150cc of the mixture from the cup back to the glass: Glass: 350cc+150cc=500cc milk, 0cc water Cup: 150cc-150cc=0cc milk,500cc water Now let's calculate the ratios: Amount of water in the glass to amount of milk in the cup: 500cc water:0cc milk=Infinity(Since we cannot have a ratio of 0 in the denominator) Amount of milk in the glass to amount of water in the cup: 500cc milk:500cc water=1:1

I have observed that the CAT cutoff for engineering students is very high as compared to other. Why is it so ?

like Commerce and Humanities students get into IIMs at 90%ile but for engineers the cutoff is usually 99

Firstly, it's important to note that Commerce and Humanities students generally don't secure admissions at a 90 percentile. This applies to all students, not just those in the general category. Secondly, if the cut-off for General Category students isn't set high, business schools would primarily admit engineers, potentially leaving those genuinely interested in management without opportunities. Additionally, cut-offs aren't significantly lower for students from other streams. For instance, if General Category students require a 99.6 percentile, others might need around 99 or higher. Yes, it may seem unfair, but altering the system isn't a straightforward task.

As someone mentioned earlier, getting into the top IIMs with a percentile of 90-95 is usually only possible for students in reserved categories. It's true that if General Category students need 99.5 or higher, then students from Commerce and Arts might need around 99 or even higher. But you know what's interesting? Even with these requirements, most IIM batches still have around half or even 60-70% of students who are engineers. This tells us something important. There are a lot of engineers who apply for MBA programs, even though business schools look for a mix of different backgrounds.

Hi all, what are your attempt strategies in Varc to increase your score? how many passages do you try to attempt? what has or hasn’t worked for you so far? Currently how are you practicing?

I am appearing for CAT this year. VARC has been my strongest area primarily because I was always in the habit of reading novels and newspapers. I would suggest to try put GMT verbal material for RCs. They have helped me personally, also the level of verbal in GMAT is slightly tougher than that in CAT so it will also have an advantage for you since you would have practiced on a tougher set of questions

I can solve the DILR questions, but one set is taking me about 40-45 minutes to complete. However, I have to solve 4 sets within 40 minutes. Can someone give me suggestions on how to speed up my DILR set-solving?

Yes they do, but if you have a good reason to backit up them you don’t need to worry.
Hi shreya, To score a good percentile in the Quantitative Aptitude section of the CAT exam, you should focus on the topics like: percentage, profit and loss, average, ratio, time and work, mensuration, height and distance, quadratic equations, logarithms, functions & graphs, series, si and ci, in geometry focus on more on triangle, bpt, ladder theorem, mpg and median and do the basis of pnc by covering all these topics you can easily crack the exam with good percentile

Hi Shruti, no, you don't have to apply separately for IIMs but When you fill the application form you have to fill a preference as to how many IIMs you wish to be part of. But various b-schools release the application form before the CAT exam and some after the result is out.

Hello all, Please recommend some good online coaching for CAT 2024. I've considered iQuanta, ElitesGrid, and EduShastra, but I can't decide. Would it be a good idea to join online classes from big players like TIME and IMS, or is their offline program much better? Thanks!

Hi Navjyot, There are many great online coaching options available for CAT 2024, such as iQuanta and ElitesGrid. Both online and offline coaching programs have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, online classes are more affordable and can be accessed from anywhere in the world, while offline classes are more interactive and engaging. Ultimately, the best way to choose between online and offline coaching depends on your own needs and preferences.

Can you explain me why should we put X=1?
Lets say we have a quadratic equation and it has root as 2 which means the equation is zero for the value of x as 2 i.e, (x-2) is a factor of that quadratic eqn Similary if we have A and B as its root then (x-A)(x-B)is its factor or (x-A)(x-B)= 0 Now for this question given that a,b,c,d,e is its root then we can write (x-a)(x-b)…are its factors and =0 . If you observe here we can see that x has value 1 . (1-a)(1-b)….. Hence we put 1.
