PGD in Services Management: Syllabus and Course Description

The service sector encompasses a massive part of India’s economy, and has higher growth rate than the agriculture and manufacturing sectors. Services firms are people- oriented owing to the involvement of direct interaction with customers. Customers generally participate in the service process, often through direct and uncensored interaction with employees and facilities. The resulting variations in demands present a challenge to Operations Managers to effectively use the perishable service capacity. This happens because production and consumptions occurs simultaneously and inventory services often cannot keep pace. The course aims to train enrolled students with the concepts and tools to effectively manage a service operation.

A semester- wise breakup of the course’s syllabus is given here.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose " service management" as my specialization. The curriculum of the course was a bit hectic in the initial trimester and we had 10 subjects and i felt the course curriculum hectic beacuse i have never faced 10 subjects in any semester during my graduation that's why i felt it hectic.Exams criteria was also different from my graduation college because quizes in each subject matters alot in this collge if you want to score good then you should have good marks in all the quizes and each quiz carries 10 marks and apart from quizes there are lot of presentations we have to make and carries 20 marks and 10 marks for the project and finally 40 marks for end term exam.

Placement Experience:

During my interaction with my seniors i got to know that the college has decent placement record and in 2019 almost 80-90 companies visted the college campus and 90% of the batch placed in the campus out of which 40% of the batch placed with good companies. But most of the companies were from sales domain and if anyone is looking for good job in sales then it is definitely a good college.Top recruiters were HCL,Delloite,Delhivery etc.The average pakage is around 6 lakhs and highest package is around 12 lakhs. The college also provides many internship opportunities but the stipend varies from 0-20k

Ques. How good is an MBA in HR in Tapmi, the salary package and everything?

● Top Answer By Daksh Prajapati on 20 Apr 23

Ans. Tapmi has state-of-the-art facilities. Each and every student has a Medicare card through which he can access all the facilities at the recognized hospitals at very affordable prices. (Some of them are even free of cost). College, however, lacks cricket and football ground but is well compensated by other sports facilities. Majority of the teachers have more than 10 years of teaching experience as well as industry experience. Case studies, role plays, simulations (few subjects), labs, class discussions became part of the teaching methods. If the subject demands, an industry expert is called to bridge the gap between academics and the industry to enhance learning. The average stipend for the internship stood at 60,000 and the maximum was at 2,00,000. More than 90% of students were placed in leading national as well as MNCs procuring good roles. Companies like Elli Lilly, Diageo, L&T, Capgemini, and Yes Bank. Overall, the course seems to be doing well. Read more

Ques. What should be preference order of IMT Ghaziabad courses- PGDM, PGDM marketing, PGDM finance, PGDM DCP, PGDM banking, insurance and financial services?

● Top Answer By Dhruv Chatterjee on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad offers a variety of courses that cater to various specializations. These courses have been listed and explained in their order of preference PGDM Marketing/PGDM Full Time (Marketing): This is the most coveted program among IMT students mainly because today its alumni have acquired top positions in big firms. Other major reasons include top-notch faculty, great internship and placement opportunities in terms of role and CTC, IMT’s eligibility, and excellent performances in recognized marketing and strategy B Schools competitions. PGDM Finance/PGDM Full Time (Finance): This one is most suitable for aspirants who are interested in Finance. However, this program offers lesser opportunities than the Marketing program in terms of role and CTC.  PGDM Full Time (Operations): This program offers opportunities similar to that of Finance. But the batch size of PGDM Operations is smaller than PGDM Finance, so it may be easier to secure an internship/final placement, but the opportunities come less compared to Finance. PGDM DCP: DCP or the Dual Country Program is for those who are keen to get international exposure. Compared to an MBA from a foreign university, this program is cheaper and yet offers an opportunity to explore a different culture and learn to make decisions in an international context. This is best suitable for those who are in the Marketing domain. PGDM Banking and Financial Services (PGDM-BFS): This program was launched in 2019 and is relatively newer. It targets the core Banking and Finance sector. While the MBA program aims to provide a holistic view of management, this program solely focuses on Banking and Finance. PGDM Full Time (HR): This is the least taken course and offers very less in terms of opportunities. The courses have been arranged preference-wise so will make it easy for you to choose one.Read more

Ques. Which course in TAPMI is better, the core PGDM, the HRM, or BKFS?

● Top Answer By Divya Kaur on 02 May 23

Ans. What's most important is that you enjoy it. The BKFS program is highly specialized and designed to equip students with the tools necessary to succeed in any financial-related field. The PGDM's first year emphasizes variety over specialization. Two years into the program, you'll have the option to focus on either Marketing, Operations, or Finance. It's up to you to determine the kind of career you want to have. Everything in the new system will be up to the individual, replacing both the major and minor systems. Although the HR course is brand new, it will be just as rigorous and cover the same ground as other courses.Read more
