BTech CS full form is BTech Computer Science and is divided into 8 semesters (2 years). In this course, you will learn programming and languages such as Python, JavaScript, SQL, etc. Some of the core subjects of BTech CS are Operating Systems, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Programming Languages, Microprocessors, Cryptography, and Network Security.

The elective subjects of BTech CS are Software Reliability, VLSI Design, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Datamining, Parallel Algorithms, Robotics etc. In most colleges, you will be able to work in the Engineering Practices Lab, Digital Electronics & Logic Design Lab, Compiler Design Lab, Web Technology Lab, etc. 

The theory paper consists of 60 marks each and the internal assessments carry 40 marks. However, the marks distribution and the inclusion of subjects will depend on the institution. Regardless, the marks of practical and internal assessments usually carry 50 and 25 marks respectively.

However, as a student of ECE at NIT Surathkal, I am writing down a few points in defense of my degree- First of all, NIT Surathkal offers a much more complete and diversified engineering education. This is because you will get to interact with the students of various disciplines from around the institution. This will offer a good exposure in contrast to the IIITs which are entirely focused on CSE and ECE branches. ECE is the branch of the future. CSE is turning more and more into a commodity. This is due to the dilution of its educational standards, and the increasing volume of students in this branch.  As an ECE student, you can always learn programming (it is in fact a part of the curriculum in a limited manner). However, it is much more difficult to learn the concepts of ECE as a CSE student.  As an ECE student you can be placed in a software company, but as a CSE student you can’t work in the E&C field.  Both the colleges are good, but NITK holds more prestige because it is much older. Its campus is very impressive as well. But even IIIT Bangalore CSE is a great option. Once you’ve made a decision, stop seeking others’ opinions. Instead, work on your skill enhancement. I don’t consider including the international offers after converting them into Indian offers and then calculating the average as things like stocks and bonuses for subsequent years are overlooked. Thus, the resultant average is inflated and misleading. No doubt BITS is a great institute but being a private one it certainly publishes exaggerated ads and misleading figures to attract the crowd.  BITS Placement Unit is infamous for its actions and bias so the inflated figures also served the purpose of silencing the ones that criticized the unit.  The only solution to this problem is for colleges to come together and decide on a common declaration format for job offers. The Indian and international offers should be normalized according to purchasing power parity, and stocks made available after 3 years of working should not be considered part of a person's salary 'package'.Read more

If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.  The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs.
