Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram Admission 2024: Dates, Courses, Fees, Eligibility & Selection

After completion of 10+2 level or equivalent, the interested candidates may choose to pursue MBBS/BDS. The intake capacity are 200 seats and 50 seats for the MBBS and BDS program respectively. The duration of the MBBS degree program is 5.5 Years which includes 6 months of compulsory rotational internship upon completion of the first 5 Years. The duration for the BDS program is 5 Years.

The students who have passed 10+2 level or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are only eligible to seek admission in the above mentioned program. However, the eligible candidates need to appear in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG).

• Candidates must have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete this age on 31st December of the year of admission.
• Candidates must have passed in the 10+2 level examination with Physics Chemistry and Biology combination and obtained a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
• 10% marks relaxation for the candidates belonging to SC and ST Categories.
• Candidates must obtain a valid NEET UG rank to apply for the MBBS or BDS program.

Apart from MBBS and BDS programs at UG level, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram also offers Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in specializations like Medical lab Technology, Perfusion Technology and Optometry; Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP), Bachelor of Cardio Vascular Technology (BCVT) and Dental Hygienist. The duration period of these courses are three years and the intake capacity depends on the nature of specializations.

Admission to the above mentioned courses is done on the basis of marks scored in a written test conducted by the college. However, only the eligible candidates who have successfully completed their 10+2 level or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology will be allowed to appear in the examination.

Candidates who are willing to build their career in Nursing may pursue Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) or Post Basic Bachelor of Science for a duration period of four years and three years respectively. The intake capacity is 75 seats and 30 seats for the above-mentioned programs in order.

For admission to the B.Sc program, the eligible candidates will have to appear in a written test conducted by the college. Most importantly, the candidates must ensure themselves that they meet all the eligibility criteria otherwise, will not be entertained by the college in the admission process.

• For B.Sc (Nursing), candidates need to pass 10+2 level examination with PCB subject combination along with English and secure at least 45% marks in aggregate.
• For P.B.B.Sc, candidates are required to pass in General Nursing & Midwifery with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
• 5% marks relaxation for the SC and ST candidates.

Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, also offers speciality courses like Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS) and Master of Dental Science (MDS) for a duration period of three years. The MD program is offered in various specializations such as Anaesthesiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Transfusion Medicine and Pharmacology. The MS program is offered in two specializations like Orthopaedics and ENT.

Admission to the MD and MS programs is done on the basis of marks scored in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET PG) conducted by the National Board of Examinations. Candidates must ensure themselves that they meet all the eligibility criteria otherwise, will be eliminated from the admission process.

• A valid rank in NEET MDS is mandatory to apply for MDS.

As far as superspeciality courses are concerned, the college offers Doctorate of Medicine (DM) and Master of Chirurgiae (M.Ch) for a duration period of three years. The DM program specializes in Neurology and the other program, M.Ch specializes in  Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery.

Candidates who have studied and passed MD or MS in relevant discipline are eligible to seek admission in the above mentioned superspeciality courses. However, the candidates need to appear in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Superspeciality Courses (NEET SS) conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

Interested candidates who are willing to pursue Master of Science (M.Sc) may do so as the college offers this program in various specializations such as CND, Perfusion Technology and Medical Lab Technology. The intake capacity depends upon the nature of specializations as opted by the candidates. The duration of the M.Sc program is of two years.

For admission to M.Sc, the eligible candidates will have to appear in a written test conducted by the college. The candidates must ensure themselves that they meet all the eligibility criteria otherwise, will not be entertained by the college in the admission process.

The college also offers Ph.D program in Neurosciences. Candidates after completing their Master’s Degree in relevant discipline may take Ph.D program.
