Concordia Journey

PS
6.5 /10

Course Curriculum :

Course curriculum is relevant but topics what are being taught could be updated. They could teach newer tools and techniques that are being used nowadays. Also, Concordia provide opportunity to enroll in Co-Op program. If you are selected for Co-Op, then you can apply for internships to get industrial experience while studying. And, if you want a research based program specifically, then you contact the program advisor to get enrollment in the same.

Exams :

Required Score: IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6 in each module; My Score: IELTS 7.5, Reading 8.5 Listening 8 Writing 6.5 Speaking 7. SOP, LORs, CV Key Points to be mentioned in SOP: 1. Academic Background 2. Courses facilitating higher education 3. Work experience (if any) 4. Language Proficiency (IELTS) 5. Mention the reason behind why you selected the particular course 6. Mention the reason behind why you selected the particular university 7. Why Canada 8. Talk about your future goals

Placement :

For my course, MEng in Information Systems Security (Basically cyber security), it’s a good scope of getting the job post studies. But, taking into considerations that you complete the required certifications especially as if you are trying to join as a fresher. You can apply Through LinkedIn, Indeed or CAPS portal that is particularly for Concordia students. There are many job postings available there as well for all the levels along with the skills required by the organisations and formalities that are required to apply for the job. If I talk about my personal experience, I am changing my career field from cyber security to a data analysis, so I won’t be able to share my opinion on cyber security placements.

Internship :

No, I personally didn't opt for any internship because I didn't have the Co-Op document from university to do so but, if you apply for the Co-Op and it gets approved, You can definitely search for the one.

Fees :

Its $32k CAD (approx) for the whole program (MEng in Information Systems Security)

Faculty :

Faculty is good. Professors are approachable and could be contacted through Email or Moodle (particularly designed for Concordia for course contents and participants). Professor who made difference to my career is Ayda Basyoni. She possess a great knowledge of the course she teaches. I would highly recommend to take her course if anybody is joining Concordia University for INSE or QSE program.

Campus Life :

Almost all the facilities are available that are required for students. Talking on academic terms, labs with PCs, studies rooms in library, presentation rehearsal rooms, Wi-Fi, printing facility, everything is available. Concordia has variety of sports and recreational programs both on and off-campus. There are different options available for enrollment in miscellaneous activities including dance club, gym, tennis & badminton club, and much more. There are numerous student associations as well that take care of well-being of the students. Few of them are responsible for arranging trips in and around the city. Also, there are student help and service center to provide the required information. You can explore more about the University from their website.

Hostel :

Accommodation facility is good in Montreal. Rents are bit high in Downtown Montréal if compared to living far away. But, It would be okay if your share the apartments with 2-3 people. Monthly rent is around $1500 CAD for 3 1/2 apartments in Downtown Montréal and this is for unfurnished apartments.
