Swansea University Physics Programs

At Swansea’s physics programs, you will learn physical concepts and mathematical techniques and apply them to understand advances in quantum information, cosmology, semiconductors, lasers, medical, nuclear & particle physics. The curriculum is shaped by world-leading experts across a wide spectrum of research areas, ranging from semiconductors, nanophysics, and lasers, to the physics of antimatter, quantum fields, and the early universe. Swansea’s courses equip students with analytical and problem-solving skills with wide-ranging applications cutting across disciplines.
The Physics department and the Swansea University Physics Society sponsor frequent social, and academic events such as departmental colloquia and distinguished lectures to bring students and staff together. Swansea’s world-leading research groups in Particle Physics and Cosmology Theory, Applied Materials, and the ALPHA anti-matter collaboration with close ties to CERN ensure that our teaching is informed by the latest research. Students have the opportunity to do a summer internship or undertake a final-year project (typically at the Master’s level) with the ALPHA group at CERN in Geneva.
