Course Curriculum

10

  • The course curriculum is not hard; as an Indian Student who has to memorise everything and then go for exams, the UK curriculum is really easy to crack. It was a mix of both theoretical and practical for me. The mix was greatly beneficial for me.
  • The most positive aspect is the lecturers, who are supportive in every aspect. The most negative aspect of the course was the lack of placement.
  • Typically in a day there would be 3 sessions, and the classes start from 10 to 12 and then 1 to 3pm.
  • The average number of students was around 50-70.
  • Indian students were about 20-25.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to 4 different universities. I was rejected by 3 because of a lack of relevant experience in the field of International Relation. And to be honest, I don't remember which uni they were, but i believe it was LSE, Manchester Metropolitan University and King's College London. But I know that after I got accepted by Cov Uni, I was also accepted by university of Sheffield.
  • Coventry University, well, because they accepted me, though I thought my background was not in public affairs. I was following my passion and I stressed that passion in the SOP document, which is why i believe they accepted my application. The application process was straightforwardand easy. After a conditional offer letter, i got an interview call to attend and after the initial payment i was offered an unconditional offer letter. There was an english requirement, that's all.
  • I applied to the JAN intake; I wanted to go as soon as possible because i resigned from my work 3 months before. The Jan intake is considered a mellow intake. The main intake is during September because of the UK students enrolment into the uni
  • The whole process took around 3 months only; it depends on how you follow up and luck is a big factor as well.
  • I heard back about the application within 2 weeks and received my conditional offer letter. I processed my initial payment within another week and the following week was my interview. After that, within 3-4 days, I got the Unconditional offer letter.

Faculty

10

  • For us the faculty-to-student ratio was around 1-10. The ratio i don't think, has anything to do with the quality of education.
  • the teaching methodology was straightforward. It's not like a bachelor's degree, where you are spoon-fed, but in a master's degree, you are teaching yourself with the guidance of your lecturers.
  • Yes, the course structure is brilliant for making us prepared to find jobs.
  • The faculty are willing to help but there is not a lot that they can do because there are no tie-ups for them nor any networks.
  • I do not want to name my lecturers here.

Campus Life

10

  • 3 Campuses- Coventry,Scarborough and London,
  • We have a 24/7 library, The Hub building, an arts- and fashion-design-focused building, an engineering building, a sports and gym building and a medical-science-focused building. All of the building are top of their class, well maintained and great to be in.
  • There are activities that happen every week if you are in the Uni. The students Union is active in that.
  • We have had student award nights, club socials, society socials, different fairs, open days, inviting new students and other stuff.

Part Time Jobs

  • I'm not aware of TA, RA, or DA positions because i wasn't a postgraduate research candidate.
  • I would assume they would be payed between 14-16 per hour.
  • In the Students Union you will find a lot of jobs to work as student staff and other roles would be as catering assistants within the campus. If politics is your thing and you think you can get elected, you can work for the students union as a student officer, which is a full-time position with VISA.
  • You can only work for 20 hrs per week while you study, and during semester break you can work as much as you can.
  • IF you have the right skills and if you can crack the interview, then it is yours. They always hire every 4-5 months.
  • You get paid the current minimum hourly living wage for sure. right now i believe it's 12.21. It is very hard to secure a part-time or a full-time role, to be honest. I would not suggest you come to the UK with a loan. The usual process is a job search in indeed and the CV library website. also there are personal company websites that you can go into and apply. But what works in coventry is CV dropping in shops and restaurants for me.

Placement

2

  • The rate of securing employment is critically low in the UK right now unless you have years of experience.
  • Upon graduation it depends on which role you go into, but to obtain a visa you need 33700 if you are under 26 and if you are above 26 it goes up to 41700 which is not possible to attain unless you are highly skilled and experienced.
  • You need to scour all the job websites, including LinkedIn, Indeed, Trac for NHS jobs and other industry-specific websites.
  • I am not in touch with a lot of my batchmates, but with people I'm in contact with, they have gone into different fields, not the one they studied for.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I found my private accommodation through a whatsapp group. Uni accommodations are expensive but well maintained and almost all of them are en suite, which means all of them are attached with toilets.
  • Monthly rent at a private accommodation will be around 200-400. and the facilities will be basic. In uni accommodations you pay around 450-800. The amenities you have over there are top-notch with your own toilets. My accommodation was about a 20 minutes walk from the uni. Most indian students do prefer private accommodations.

Exams

  • There were no exams required for admission during my intake. I just had to be a bachelor's degree graduate, which was completed in English.
  • I am required to submit an SOP, an LOR from the last university/college and from my current enployee, Current CV and payment options.
  • The interview was pretty straight forward i believe they want to evaluate you english proficiency before offering an unconditional offer letter.

Fees

  • 17950/- is the fee.
  • For me it was done in 2 installments.
  • Monthly expenses would be as follows:
    • 300-500 for private renting
    • if you walk, then you save on travel. Coventry is a small city; you do not need public transport unless you live far away
    • 25 per week for groceries
    • 100 miscellaneous
    • I lived with my bare minimum, ha.
    • Dining out every time would cost around 10-15 for a nice place it would be from 25-35. It depends on how you spend it.
    • So overallI believe you can survive with around 700.

Scholarship

  • When I joined, Indian Students did not have any sponsorship.
  • Some pakistani students and/or students from other asian countries got a scholarship of 2000 pounds.
  • But what I got to know is that recently the students' union has been successful in acquiring sponsorship for Indian students this time around. I am not sure about the exact amount of it but I do know that it is available.
