Remarks :

The college is good in all the aspects. The management of the college is fine and it tries to do its best. Apart from that; the college directors and managers are actually approachable when you have some issues or suggestions.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I would like to tell you about the course that I am pursuing at present, that is – B.Com(Honors). It is a 108 credit course. The college starts in the month of July for B.Com(H) students. 75% attendance is mandatory in each subject individually; otherwise, the student is not allowed to appear for exams. Course Curriculum - We have got 8 subjects to study in each semester. The subjects that one would study in 1st Year are – Accounts, Business Mathematics, Communication Skills, Economics, Human Resource Management, Indian Banking System, Marketing and Foreign Language. In foreign language; we are given 2 choices, namely – French and German , out of which the student needs to select one. I had opted for French. We also have a subject called +Course. It’s about computer software and its applications that would be useful in professional life. For +course practicals; we are taken to computer lab. Computer lab is once a week for 2 hours. The college offers students to select one course so as to specialize in it in 2nd and 3rd year of their graduation. Those are called Specialization Subjects or Specialization Courses. They are – Accounting and Finance, Human Resource Management, Banking and Insurance , Marketing. Each subject further gives choices to students to select any 3 sub-subjects. These specialization subjects makes students skilled and knowledgeable in a domain of their interest . There is nothing research-driven as such and the day is mostly chilled. We have 5 lectures in a day ; starting from 9:30 and ending at 3:30.Each lecture is of 1 hour and there is a lunch break of 1 hour – from 12:30 to 1:30. The course curriculum offers knowledge about various fields that are enhancing and blooming day after days such as Marketing and Human Resource Management. Such subjects are not just limited to books but they serve a very vital purpose in any organization – be it profit or not for profit; private or public or government organization. Such subjects are generally taught in Masters In Business Administration or in some cases , they are taught in Bachelors in Business Administration. But then again the loss there in MBA or BBA is that they would not be learning accounts and other subjects which are prominent in corporate world. But in B.Com (Hons) one is fortunate enough to study subjects taught in BBA/MBA along with the subjects like accounts. It gives great exposure to students not only in terms of knowledge but also it broadens the career perspective for students. 3rd-year students need to do an internship of 2 months during their summer vacation. The college does help students get internships. The college also trains the students about how to appear for interviews. Apart from that; the students also have live interactive sessions with special guests like successful entrepreneurs and people having huge experience in corporate world. It not only gives information to students ; but it also motivates students to achieve something great and gives them a direction to think creatively but practically and logically. There are various presentations also given by professional people called from outside, which makes us know about how the corporate world works and what it takes to be able to compete and sustain in the professional life. Apart from it ; there are various cells in the university such as - placement cell, entrepreneurship cell, career development cell, internship and training cell, and many more. It acts as a great support for building personality and career. Also the library has more then 5000 books which includes reference books (that can be issued for 14 days) and novels (which can be issued for 4 days). Exam Structure - Most of the courses have a semester system for examination. Some courses such as medical and para medical have an annual examination system. For B.Com(Honors); there are 3 types of examinations held per semester. They are – Class Test, Internal and External; each comprising of 20, 40 and 60 Marks respectively. Class Test is generally held after 1 month of starting of the semester. Mid Semester exams are conducted 1 month after the class test exams. Externals are held in the month of December and March. Further ; the class test is of 20 marks but for the preparation of mark sheet; marks are considered out of 10. Similarly; mid sem exams are of 40 marks but while preparation of mark sheet ; marks are considered out of 20. That is; for both, class test and mid-semester exam, the marks you would obtain would be divided by 2 and entered into the system. Externals are of 60 marks. 10 marks are for class assignments, students' behavior and attendance of the pupil in the class. It total adds up to 100 marks. Here everything is done through PUMIS – Parul University Management Information System. Be it checking the examination results, attendance, uploading Resume, applying for internships and applying for jobs. Almost everything is done through PUMIS. It makes work quick and more convenient.

Placement Experience :

The college claims to have been providing great placements, but I find it to be not so great. The highest package ever in Parul was to a student of CS, which was of 18 LPA. The average package of B.Tech is around 3 -4 LPA. Medical and paramedical students do not have placements as such. I do not have any idea about placements in other departments. About the commerce department - which was started in the year 2015; so the batch that passed out in 2018 was the first batch to pass out from the commerce department. They all had opted for higher studies, the majority of the students taking up an MBA and a few preparing for civil services. Regarding internships; the 3rd year students undergo internship of 2 months during their summer vacation. The college does help students get internships. Also, the final year students are trained by the college as to how they need to give their interviews. I am a first-year student and it has only been 4 months over here so I do not have any idea about the internship's stipend.

College Events :

Parul University has students from all the states in India and it also has international students from more than 40 countries. This makes the university celebrate almost all major festivals. To name a few, Independence Day, Republic Day, Holi, Janamashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Diwali, Christmas, New Year and so on. The entire campus is decorated and the colors, lights, and greenery add beauty to the events. Apart from the festivals; a lot many days are celebrated such as emoji day, international youth day, commerce day, world pharmacy day, Physio summit, National Conference On Innovative Business Management Practices, etc. Also, there are fresher parties- official as well as unofficial. Official freshers party is known as EDM Night. It is to welcome the freshers. There are farewell parties too held for the passing batch. Each and every function held in Parul University seeks student's involvement in organizing and managing the functions, be it big or small. In the month of February; the Dhoom festival is celebrated. It is a 1 week cultural festival of the college. Many sports competitions and in house talent performances are showcased. It's the biggest festival in the university. Apart from these; various seminars and conferences are held for the students. There are exhibitions too conducted by the departments individually. The campus is very boisterous and worth experiencing throughout the year.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

I had done admission offline. The application form cost Rs.1000. The tuition fees of B.Com(Hons) is Rs.30,000 per annum for the Indian students, that is, Rs.15,000 for each semester. The fees for the 2nd year and 3rd year would also remain the same. The college gives you the option of making entire payment of 1 year at once or making payment semester wise - that is paying the fees of 1 semester at the starting of the sem. Then there is a fee for University Development which is refundable after graduation. The fees for the same is Rs.5000. Then the other fees are - Student kit fees - Rs.1,400 University Development fees - Rs.2,000 University enrollment fees - Rs.1,000 University examination fees - Rs.4,300 The student kit would involve - a bag, a pencil pouch, a water bottle, a t-shirt, and a badge; each with PU's symbol on it. Other expenses are nothing but your personal expenses on stationery, food, medicines, and other personal needs and wants for things.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I did not avail of any scholarship. But there are scholarship programs. One can get a scholarship on the basis of class 12th marks. Apart from it, there are scholarships for the reserved categories. Other then that; one can also get scholarships on the basis of marks received in previous year college performance. So these are the ways to get a scholarship.

Campus Life :

Campus life is great. The campus is really huge and it's very neat, clean and green; and it’s very well maintained. There are many places on the campus that have been designed beautifully and it acts as great spots for photo shoots and birthday parties or perhaps a perfect place for bunking classes and for hanging out. The campus has many food courts and canteens which provide almost all kind of cuisines and fast food that one would carve for. There are bakeries and sweet shops as well. Within the campus, stationery and medical centers are also available. There is a temple as well on the campus. There are many playgrounds such as basketball courts, football ground, badminton court, etc. There is a gym as well as a swimming pool. There are computer labs, machine labs, research and development labs, science labs, and many more. There are many libraries too that has a rich collection of wide-ranging books. There are a number of competitions held in the university such as quiz competitions, debates - extempore competitions, theater events and other competitions such as robotics and mobile app development competitions. The college provides a great opportunity for students to enhance their skill sets and teaches them to be a confident person. There are almost 40,000 Indian students studying in the university and there are international students also; coming from more than 40 different countries. This brings in a lot of diversity. Apart from it, we have got all types of religion for practicing students. There is no gender or religion discrimination. Nor there is any kind of ragging in the university. Ragging is strictly prohibited. There is no involvement in politics anywhere in any aspect of the university.

Alumni/Alumna :

I do not have much idea about the alumni networks. But yes there does exist the alumni network. About seniors; yes they are very amicable, supportive and helpful. There is no ragging as such in the university. The seniors are understanding and they do make their juniors feel comfortable. The seniors may not be from your own department but anyways they are always a support system during your stay at Parul University. The seniors can be your roommates or your people living in the rooms adjacent to yours. They will try to help in almost all the ways possible. Be it driving away homesickness, fighting against hunger at midnight, or be it getting ready for parties and functions, or be it taking care of you when you fall sick. They are the best company you would need when you are actually away from home.

Admission :

I had opted for Science back in class 11th and 12th. Lately, I realized that I wanted to pursue the course of Chartered Accountancy after my class 12th. Since the course is very challenging I thought of taking up a regular college degree course along with preparation for CA. After a lot of research I reached on the conclusion that B.com or BBA would suit the best along with CA; and most preferred course is B.com for those who are into the preparation mode for Professional Courses like Chartered Accountancy (CA), Company Secretary(CS), Certified Public Accountant(CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst(CFA), and all other such prestigious qualifications. The next thing I did was to search for B.Com colleges on the internet and along with the college's reputation, placements, academics, and social life; I looked into the course curriculum of every college. Out of all the colleges that I had searched for; I discovered Parul University to be the best for me; the reason being the exposure the students were getting here in terms of the subjects taught and of course the non-academic factors. The best thing about B.Com at Parul University is that it's not just the B.Com degree but it is B.Com(Honors) or B.Com with Honors as many people call it to be. B.Com(Honors) is of immense value as compared to B.Com. The next day I called them through the contact number mentioned at its official website and found out the details about the course that I had decided to pursue [B.com(Hons)], Hostel facilities and the fee structure. Very soon I visited the university along with my parents. Admission Procedure - As far as admission procedure is concerned for B.Com (Hons) or for most of the other courses; one simply needs to fill the form , which is available both online as well as at the university (offline mode) and then submit the required documents such as class 10th and class 12th mark sheet; school leaving certificate; Xerox copy of identity documents such as aadhar card/driving license/passport or any other relevant document. There is no system of merit list for getting admission. Before admission; the university people would be individually taking you and your guardians (who accompanied you for admission to university) to see the entire campus (including hostel rooms) in college’s private vehicles. Admissions open for the majority of the courses right after the ending of class 12th till the month of October. There are students who get enrolled after October or November too, in many courses.

Faculty :

The faculty in B.Com (Hons) at my college is too good. Be it any subject – Accounts, Business Mathematics, Communication Skills, Economics, Human Resource Management, Indian Banking System, Marketing or Foreign Language. The professors are highly educated, most of them have done their masters, some have even pursued a doctorate degree. Few of the faculty here are Chartered Accountants. They do teach well and they put in a lot of effort too. There are a few faculties, maybe 1 or 2, who are not so good when it comes to teaching; despite having done their masters or Ph.D.; their concepts are not clear and also they do not speak correct English; at times changing the meaning of the sentence entirely. Rest everything is fine. Professors reach the class on time and they are pretty regular and they hardly are on leave. They actually are concerned with the performances of students. They are supportive and corporative, motivating us to do our best. There is sometimes a shortage of faculties due to professors leaving the job. It does create a lot of imbalance as an ample time of students gets wasted. Also, I feel the faculty to be a bit lazy with unorganized management. A few professors procrastinate in things other than completing the syllabus, such as checking answer sheets or collection of assignments and so on. Also the foreign language professors; they are highly educated in their respective teaching area of French and German. They have actually cleared international examinations which are held for learning the international language. DELF is International exam for French and Goethe is for German. So the faculty teaching foreign languages are brilliant. Commerce Department has also arranged classes for the preparation of exams like UPSC, GPSC, CA, etc. by calling the team for the same from outside. They do care about the students' careers.

In the Final semester students from BCom, BCom Hons and BBA together appear for the placement process in which a student with nice communication skills and a decent academic background can grab a decent placement offer. Our average placement is 2-4 LPA. I am in my final year and I am not planning for placement I will do a masters in business administration.

I would recommend if you're not into CA then better go for BBA or B.Com (Hons) program. They have better curriculum and future prospects and the life over there is way better than the regular program. Also if you're a freshman then you better find out what you want to do in life. And don't make any hasty decisions. Think twice and research throughly before you join any course or college.
