- The faculty at my institute was very knowledgeable and they were always supportive from the very beginning.
- The library in our Institute had a vast collection of the books and they the registration fees for the library was very affordable.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is very bad where the lab's instruments were poorly handled.
- The lab technicians were very less trained in handling the machines and in operating them.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The aspects of my cirriculum was very broad and very catogorised for each semester which helped us to focus on important matters very easily. The curriculum was similar to the B.Tech Degree because this program helps you to get the brief idea of the B.Tech degree. The program helped us to get the knowledge of the real world applications as because the program was soley devised to help us understand the diverse mechanisms used in the real world application of modern day construction. The areas where there can be some improvements is the revival of the labs and new machines. The exams is held in the last end of the semester where every test and viva test and projects will compile making it hectic to tackle.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees structure in Darjeeling Polytechnic Institute is very affordable as because it's a government institute. The whole fees structure is based per semester. The fees for per semester is around 1500-1800 rupees. There was no tution fees and caution fees but we needed to pay 500 rupees per semester's registration. The fees structures was the same for all the same categories including all the SC, ST and other categories. As my institute was a Government aided institute there was no need for scholarships.
Campus Life :
The campus life was very boring as compared to other campuses because the institue doesnt hold any functions in the whole year. If the student's council decides to hold any functions then you can enjoy those activities but other than that you will not see any other activities. The library is filled with books and journals and you will be able to access those by applying for the library membership. The classes are not equipped with digital projectors but rather with traditional green board. The institute do hold sports activities in which other schools or colleges can participate. There is no social clubs and any other groups in the college that will help you in the life.
Admission :
I had applied to Siliguri Institue of Engineering in Salbari, West Bengal and I got a confirmation from Darjeeling Polytechnic Institute. I had to apply to this institute because of finnancial problems. No, I was not rejected but I was facing some finnancial problems due to which I was not able to join the college. You need to have atleast 70% on your matriculation to be to fill up the registration form. Anyone who has above 60% in the matriculation, there is no entrance exam needed to enroll in our college.
Faculty :
The faculty to student ratio was around 30:70. In my personal experience, the relationship between the students and faculty is pretty good. The faculty was pretty helpful and supportive from the beginning during the classes and the projects and even during the exam time. I was from the Civil Department and my faculty was the best faculty between the three departments. Except my department, the Computer Science department was my second best department as because the professors of that department was very supportive and they were highly skilled in what they were doing. They were always kind and helpful to the students. The lab in the Computer Science department was very good compared to others. The department that I didnt prefer was the EEE department (Electrical engineering) because the building of the same was poorly maintained and the faculty was very less and the faculty comprised of old professers who were always irritated to help the students. The students of that department were always searching for help in their studies. So coming back to the exams, each semester had two internal tests followed by a viva test which was conducted by the faculty members of our institue and the faculty members of other institute. During the viva test, we had to submit all the lab copies and other projects to the following faculty members.
