My experience as a first year student in CVS, DU

  • New building has not yet been opened despite the construction has been completely
  • Exam timings for the students pursuing vocational course are 2:30 to 5:30 which makes it too hot in summers

Course Curriculum Overview :

I'm pursuing Human resource management and as I have mentioned before CVS is the only college providing vocational courses. The reason I chose this course is it is skill based and also i wanted to have a career in HR field. The comprehensiveness and understanding of this subject is quite good, it covers topic that one studies in his or her MBA. Their are areas that need to be improved like practical applicability of the subjects that we are taught, the college should take initiatives to let students use the learnings in a real world scenario by providing them internships or by taking them to corporate visits. The exams are conducted semester wise and their difficultly level is moderate. The exam timings for vocational courses is 2:30-5:30 p.m

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees I paid for the 1year was 12,800. The fees has to be paid on the yearly basis and not sem wise. Scholarship opportunities are available for student. The fees for the second year has not yet released but I guess it has been increased.

Campus Life :

My overall experience in this college was great, i made a lot of friends, i joined various societies and went to various colleges for fest and stuff. The campus life is awesome (if you make friends) The things I don't like is the castism, in my college particular you'll see a lot of jaats and gurjars and valmikis. And trust me they do a lot of ruckus which results in the events being cancelled. Talking about societies, my college has over 20+ societies focusing on entrepreneurship, drama, dance, music and other stuff. The infrastructure is justlike other govt colleges, obviously you can't expect much from govt colleges. The chairs and benches are fine, walls are good, washrooms are clean, gcr is well maintained. The only thing that bothers me is garmi while attending classroom in the OB

Admission :

I applied to this college because I was very intrigued by the course that I'm pursuing which Is human resource management. And Cvs is the only college providing this course in Delhi University Apart from applying for vocational courses at this college, i applied to other DU colleges providing Be.el.ed. And as my admission process was done through csas portal, my first choice for the courses I wanted to do my grad in was HRM itself, and I was alloted my first preference in the first round of csas and therefore I freezed it. The current admission process is great as you justhave to fill your course preferences in numerical order of how likely you want them to be alloted and then the round wise counselling begin. If you get alloted the college, then you have two options either two upgrade or to freeze, if you upgrade then you will be eligible for next round and another course that you filled in your preference sheet and if you freeze then you choose the particular alloted course

Faculty :

The faculty of the college is Okayish. The teachers are good and friendly (I mean except a few) The principal has been newly appointed and is by far great. The faculty is easily approachable. One of my favourite teacher was my HRPP sir, His name is Akshay and trust me guys he's one of the few teachers who actually cares about his students. The teachers i didn't like were my Hindi Teacher and fortunately he's gone. The total exams conicted after NEP is 7 (5 subjects that are to attempted mandatorily and other 2 which is SEC and VAC can be choosen by the student itself. The difficulty level of the exams are moderate. And because it is the only college providing Vocational courses, the teachers also give important questions before exams that are mostly right.

Placement Experience:

For campus placements, students become eligible with a CGPA of 6.5-7.5 or above and after 6 sem ie third year. I have not visited any companies because of the covid situation which led to online studies. The highest package is about 12 lakhs pa and the average package around 2.5 lakhs pa with around 400 companies visiting the campus for recruitment. Around 70% of the students get placements. I would prefer to do further education and then aim at getting the job I am aiming for.

Remarks:

The software development course was new and promising as it came to the Delhi university premises only an year ago. The IT field was something I was going to pursue because we all are aware of the plethora of opportunities this field opens up for a person and engineering was something I was not quite sure about since I couldn't land into any college of my preference. So I went to experience and experiment for myself in Ramanujan College. The college was not well known and so was the course so it was a bit painful to explain the whole curriculum everytime a layman asked about which course I'm in, which was about most of the times.
