Remarks :
My college experience was over all very great. There is nothing else that I would like to highlight much about my college. Surely I miss my college it was very wonderful to be a part of such a great institution.
Entrance Preview :
College of vocational studies which is my college is a part of Delhi University. When I had entered the college there were no entrance exams or anything. We were selected on the basis of our merit or say our performance in high school. So,I was a science student in my high school. But as well all are aware of the high cut off that we have in Delhi University colleges. So I could not get an admission in any of the Science related courses. AND I ended up in college of vocational studies. My elder brother who is also an alumni of this college was very much aware of the faculty and infrastructure facilities. He wanted me to study there as he was pretty much sure of the kind of healthy and resourceful environment and facilities that I would get there. Regarding my Course, being an alumni he was aware of the fact that Human Resources Management is the most asked for course of our college... So we chose for that course . And from that very moment the journey started.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course books and syllabus were all enriched with the knowledge that is required for us to be good HR executives or Managers. My course had all the subjects related to business, economics, accounts, organization behavior, basics of computers, labour laws, business communications and the most important one- human resources management. Apart from theory of all of these subjects we had to make a project report where in we had to do analysis of the human resources working the organization which we are working in. This project report helped us a lot to understand how the human resources are managed in an organization, how there performance gets affected and how they can be satisfied with their respective jobs.
Internships Opportunities :
The college didn't provide an internship but it was mandatory to find one in order to complete our project report about which i had mentioned earlier. So i found one through my own contacts. The experience was great. It was very learning and helping. And the stipend was 10000 per month.
Placement Experience :
There was placement cell in our college. And the students which were a part of that made sure that there were enough companies in the college at the time of placements. No doubt there a lot of companies, yet they never offered jobs related to our courses. I am not aware of who all got placed. Major companies were Accenture, gen pact and other such big companies.
College Events :
Being in a Delhi University college.. We had some or the other fest or program every other day. But our main fest used to happen in the month of march. The main fest was a very big one. It was a 3 day event and had guests like Manish Paul, DJ Zaeden and Milind gaba on all three days each. The average footfall was 3000 per day. The organization was amazing. Everything went on smoothly. The volunteers did their work amazingly. Yes the college authorities had their piece of share in making it happen.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
As we all know that Delhi University being a government organization provides high class education at a very low cost, which so helpful for students who do not have financially sound backgrounds. My fees was approximately 10,000 per semester. And apart from that we had examination fees which was only 500 rupees per semester. So the total fees for the three year course was approximately 63000 to 65000. And this is very affordable.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
With such a low amount of fees scholarships were never required. No I didn't avail any scholarship. The college did not have to help us in getting any loans.
Campus Life :
There were ample of opportunities to explore our inner talent. There were so many societies.. Including drama dance music debate and the list is just never ending. I was the part of debating society and the college authorities were pretty helpful to us. Though fetching funds for the fests was a difficult task for all the societies and student's union as well.
Hostel Facilities :
As I belong to Delhi itself, so there was no point in staying in a hostel. But obviously some of my friends stayed there. And they had told me that the rooms were pretty much tidy and the environment was good. The safety in the hostel were a prior concern of all the employees over there. The food was certainly not good. May be because students want delicious restaurant like food all day. It was simple food with less of the spices.
Alumni/Alumna :
Sadly we never had an alumni meet at any time over there. But I already knew many of the alumni including my own brother. So all of them used to miss their college and talk about their college times and how life has changed now.
Exam Structure :
The main exams that we had were the semester exams which were after an interval of 6 months. And the internal tests used to happen anytime in between. Our teachers used fix the internal dates in accordance to convenience. If the majority of the children were not available on a certain date. They used to reschedule the test date and our opinion was never unheard. With such understanding teachers were never felt any burden of studies and college felt like home.
Faculty :
The faculty of our college was by far the best faculty. In my first year, obviously it was difficult for me to adjust to the all new environment. But the faculty members, our teachers made us feel like home. They did not only taught us our subject. They also taught us how to be independent adults and how to deal with the responsibilities other than studies. Our teachers used to console us regarding our career and our future. In regard with their subjects, they were all very knowledgeable and had the best ways to explain things to the students. They used to give us notes and told us about the best books related to the subjects. We always had a good idea of the important questions that might come in the exam, again the credit goes to our teachers.
