Remarks :
Come here if you wish to study and learn, be it anything.
Entrance Preview :
I took the WBJEE in 2016 and scored a rank of 2273. I chose this college because it is the second best government college in West Bengal and it was quite close to my home.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is pretty outdated as there have been several advances in technology in the past few years. Being an engineering student, we still have to study subjects like Environmental Chemistry, Economics and English. I feel like more emphasis is laid on other subjects rather than subjects of Computer Science and Engineering.
Internships Opportunities :
The college does not provide any internship. Many students go for research internships in IIT Kharagpur while others go for Vocational Training in other companies.
Placement Experience :
Placements in my college is mostly dependent on mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro and Capgemini. Some go for pool campusing whereas others go for higher studies like GATE and CAT. Many students go for PUBLIC Sector Undertaking Companies as well. Average placement is around 3.35 lacs.
College Events :
College Fest ESPEKTRO, is the biggest event in our college. It has two parts-EXOTICA, the cultural half and TECHTIX, the technical half. We have had artists like Armaan Malik, Nakash Aziz, Shirley Setia and Sachin-Jigar perform at our fest. Techtix is good too. The prize money ranges from Rs. 500-5000.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure is quite cheap for an engineering college. I have to Rs. 6000 as semester fees and Rs.1200 as exam fees. Other than that, all the rest are my own expenses. If you are poor, you will get scholarships from the government like a full scholarship or a half scholarship.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The government provides scholarships for the economically weak students on producing proper documents.
Campus Life :
The college has a quiet atmosphere. There are no clashes related to a person's religion, social or political views. There are workshops held on several topics regularly. We have several clubs like Art club, Music Club, E-Cell etc. The gender ratio is very poor, about 6:65. The campus life is very bad, as we have no good places to hang out.
Hostel Facilities :
There are 6 hostels in my college-one for the Mtech students, one for the girls, one for the first year boys and the other three for the other boys. Cleanliness is a big issue and the mess is okay. The hostels are managed by students themselves by appointment of a committee.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is quite extensive. Some are teachers, some are in Indian IT companies, some are in the West and some are in PSUs.
Exam Structure :
Exams are held at the end of every semester. We have two internals and an assignment in each semester. The teachers are pretty chilled out, letting us be and not giving us any extra work. Labs are pretty easy too. The labs assistants help us out whenever we are stuck.
Admission :
The forms were available on the website of MAKAUT, the university to which my college is affiliated to. The documents required were my birth certificate, class X and XII board results, a health certificate, WBJEE admit card and domicile certificate. After the cutoff ranks were declared after each counselling round, we had to report to a centre which was informed to us.
Faculty :
The faculty in my college is quite good. All the HODs are PhD holders. All teachers are MTech degree holders. The teachers in my department are very knowledgeable and put in lots of efforts to make the students understand even when they have a government job and no one would care less even if they didn't.
