MY COLLEGE - LBSCEK

Dislikes

  • The class building infrastructure is a little old and rustic. Although I don't find it a big problem, some of the students do. The sports facilites are also limited but still enjoyable.
  • The placement opportunities are limited in campus, only 30-50% students are given in campus placements. The coding culture is not very good, students have to put immense individual effort to come up in that area.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Recently in the engineering field, most the students opt for computer science stream. Although that is good, i wanted to try something different. That is why I went for electrical and communication engineering. The ECE course in LBS is excellent in terms of preparing us for future job and real world applications. The labs are well equipped and with knowledgeable faculty members. Some areas which i thought needed improvement is coding. I would've liked more coding to be taught to other branches students as at the end of the day they might be placed in an IT firm. As in frequency of exams, there are 2 internal exams and 1 University semester exam in one sem which is almost 6 months. The internals are usually very easy and can be cleared without any hassles but sem exams can be a little difficult for some.

Internships Opportunities :

Internships opportunities are informed by student groups within the college for every yeat students. Students with good core and coding knowledge can apply for them. Some of them including a stipend but some dont. Some companies are peace lab, cognizant etc.., overall in campus internship opportunities are limited but you'll get to know of others through student centres.

Placement Experience :

Students become eligible for campus placements from 7th sem. The placement cell in our college is pretty helpful but the overall placement percentage is not very good. In a batch, only 40-50% students are found to be campus placed. The average salary package offeres is around 4-6 lpa. Companies that visit are cognizant, tata, birla, Adobe, Microsoft etc..,. Highest package last year was around 10lpa. My plan after graduation is to go for higher studies.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

When i Joined in 2023, the tuition fees was 35000 per year. This year, they increase it to 45000 per year. The hostel fees is to be paid monthly and comes around the ballpark of 3000-4000 per month. There are many scholarships available for students especially for those who are residents of the state like egrantz, CH muhammed Koya scholarship etc..,.

Campus Life :

There are many student clubs for music, cinema and other activity lovers in the college. Each department has their own techfest along with an annual college techfest conducted every year by the union. Most of the classes are equipped with a smart board. The library in Lbs is one of the best in the state and is accessible by students easily. The sports facilites are moderate. Overall the college social life depends on the person. You have to come up and be interactive to make a place.

Hostel Facilities :

There are 3 hostels for boys and 1 hostel for girls. For girls all the juniors and seniors are in one single hostel which is pretty big and inside the campus. For boys, the hostel for 1st years are outside the campus ( 10 minute walk), 2nd years and 3rd years together have a hostel inside the campus and another one seperately for 4th years again inside the campus. The food in hostel is pretty good compared to other govt colleges in the state. Hostel fees along with mess bill comes around 3k-4k per month. One room is shared by 2 people in the hostel. PG s are also available in the college surroundings and a little further in bovikanam and cherkala.

Admission :

The admission to Lbscek is done by both KEAM entrance exam which is the Kerala engineering and architecture exam and also by NRI quota. The fees differ hugely in both. Fee waiver and other benefits are given for students with reservations. Keam exam is conducted early and all the students who are residents of the state can participate. The admission process is not very confusing. Also from the year 2024 KEAM exam has been converted to computer based exam from pen paper type which makes the valuation and exam process faster.

Faculty :

The faculty in LBS, i felt is really qualified and determined bunch of people for the most part. Some of them, not so much. The faculty to student ratio is not very plausible. Every batch gets assigned a tutor who is very cooperative and also serves as a mentor/counseling faculty for the students.He/she can be approached almost any time of the day and is really helpful. overall approachability of the teachers is also not very bad. Students can always visit the staff rooms and clear any doubts or questions they might have. Most of the faculty conducts really good lectures but does not give special attention to a student of sorts. It's all upon us to be attentive or not. All the professors are also valuated on a sem basis in a feedback program by the college in which students can provide feedbacks and complaints about the faculty as a whole or any specific one. I found this to be really helpful. Overall the faculty in LBS is a bunch of well qualified and experienced professors.

Placement Experience:

The placements are more than decent as you get many opportunities to land a job before graduation. Provided you don't have backpapers which most companies wouldn't want in their candidates. Service-based companies such as TCS and Accenture take loads of students per year and pretty high-end companies visit too.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum mainly focuses on the technical side of the subject being an engineering course. Mathematical models play a significant role in developing and extrapolating the syllabus to application level. Life sciences are also there as core subjects and electives in higher semesters. It heavily encompasses the general relevant technical aspects of modern biotechnology too.
