The Journey of my Optometry life

Dislikes

  • The University has a budget of ₹2000 per EOD paper which is quite huge for the normal University going students. It gets difficult for students to clear a paper with this budget
  • Sometimes classes don't happen regularly due to which the syllabus is not finished at the correct time and as a result students face difficulties during the exam session

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is a bit huge in every even semesters where the students face difficulties to complete their revision before the exam period. The course syllabus should be minimised as per the no.of days in the even semester. The topics which is provided to us help us a lot in a long run because it both gives us a deep theoretical as well as practical knowledge. It helps us to differentiate the types of diseases when we diagnose a patient in hospital and eye camps. The exam comprises 100 marks with a duration of 3 hours which is pretty easy for us to complete if the student has properly prepared herself for the exam. The teachers should focus more on completion of the syllabus within a scheduled time rather stretching it till two or three days before the exam gets started

Internships Opportunities :

We have been provided internships as per our convenience in our location during both 2nd and 4th semester to help us in patients handling and diagnosing different types of diseases. Not every hospitals provide stipend after 6th semester but some hospitals provide 3000 per month as per their conditions apply. The opticals like Titan, Lenskart, Himalaya doesn't provide a one year internship program but every hospitals do provide. We have to write every different medical cases in our log book which is to be submitted to our faculty after the completion of one year internship and we're marked according to our question and answer round in practical exams.

Placement Experience :

The students after completing the internship in their final year is provided the campus placement. It includes the offers from various eye hospitals and optical stores.Eye hospitals like Dr.Agarwal's Eye hospital,Eyecare hospital provide a 300000LPA and optical stores like Titan and Lenskart provide 3500000LPA.The students with a high CGPA Of more than 8 and good skills clearing the interview gets placed first. My plans after the degree is to go into the clinical line and hold a job and along with that pursuing the higher studies in distance. The highest package in our field is 350000 from TITAN optical store. The students get eligible for campus placements soon after their 8th semester

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The course fees is 90000 per annum which is pretty affordable for the students. The hostel fees is 100000 per annum which is pretty huge for us.The course fees is to be given before the semester starts.Out of two semesters, half of the course fees is to be paid in the first semester and the other half in the next.Excluding the course fees, the extra ?7000 is to be paid for the examination fees every year before the exam period otherwise the student is not provided the admit card. The scholarships are beneficial to the SC/ST students and not the general. The campus employment is good which provides both clinical and optical opportunities with a stipend of ?2000

Campus Life :

Every year our University conducts a GAJAJYOTI and ANNUAL TECH FEST in February and March respectively. Many stalls are put for the refreshments of the students and faculties. The books in the library are worthy of our knowledge. The books which are not affordable by the students are available in the library in 8-10 numbers which benefits the students in the exam period. The classrooms contains smart class and every models of the eye which helps us to understand the concept easier. The students are able to participate in co-curriculum like dance, song, acting, etc. There are a huge number of sports, clubs which helps students to participate in both national and international level like world health skill, dance, badminton, etc

Hostel Facilities :

There are 3types of hostel rooms which includes a common room and common bathroom with a fees of ?80000,a deluxe room(NON-AC personal room of 3 students with attached bathroom) of ?100000 and a deluxe AC room with attached bathroom of 3 students with a fees of #130000.The fees is to be paid from the beginning of the year or else the room will not be available for the students. The meal quality is not too good but okay.If the students rent a PG or room near that locality then they have to pay ?3000 each month

Admission :

The eligibility of yeh course was above 60% in 12th board. There was no entrance exam to get into the college but a direct admission. If the student has scored more than 80% and has reserved the seat beforehand then a relief of ?10000 is done during the admission. The aplication process includes the marksheets of both 10th and 12th board exam, and the CLC certificate. The application dates, form and fees is found on the official website of the university which is cutm.ac.in

Faculty :

The faculties are too friendly to come forward to help whenever in need. The total no.of faculty are 5 who controls the strength of 27 students in our batch. They are knowledgeable enough to provide us a brief and deep knowledge in our course. They constantly encourage and support us to improve our academics and practicals in every semester. They too take us out to engage in different camps and seminars to have a brief idea about patient handling, different types of diseases and the proper treatment that should be given to cure
