Palash Sute's Review On Government College Of Engineering - [GCOEA], Amravati

Remarks :

College is good when you remove the option of E&TC dept. Other departments are good in all aspects. They do not torture anyone and treat them wisely and help them in all aspects. our department is also good for some reasons. Like in helping students for various things.

Course Curriculum Overview :

First of all, according to my opinion, the course offers many things to learn but due to our college's exam pattern, there's hardly any time to cover such a vast course. The course curriculum offers various theory as well as practical based activities. There are basically 3 exams in one semester until the 2nd year and 4 exams from 3rd year onwards. Till 2nd year we have Class Test 1(CT1) which is of 15 marks, CT2 which is also of 15 marks, Teacher's assessment which is of 10 marks and the end semester exam which is of 60 marks. Total 100 marks. We need 40 marks out of 100 to pass the exam.

Placement Experience :

Previously the college had a great name and the alumni from here are well settled but now the condition is totally changed. It offers the highest of 7.2LPA for my dept and an average of 3.2-3.5 LPA for everyone. Everyone generally gets placed but the amount offered is not up to the mark. Actually, my colleges provide internship opportunities at different companies and not in the college itself. They provide links regarding formfilling for suitable internships. I've done an internship in my 2nd-year summer vacations at BSNL Nagpur. The experience there was good and learned a lot about the telecommunication sector.

College Events :

Our college has a major 3 events for technical and cultural activities. Those events are alumni meet, Prajwalan, zenith. For a sports event, there is a tournament for every sport named the ate Kalpana Chawla trophy.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

As being a government, the fees should be less but here the scene is opposite. For general category it's about 80k, for OBC about 60k, for SC it's about 3k and for ST it's about 1500, for NT about 25k.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Yes, there is a scholarship for every student available. The government scholarship for reserved category students and the hostel maintenance and economically backward scholarship for general category students. A number of other scholarships such as the Siemens( Free fees and extra 30k with internship and laptops and more stuff) and the call soft scholarships(30k) are also provided to select students.

Campus Life :

The labs in our department have the least number of working instruments. Hardly 1-2 instruments works and rest are faulty. Proper guiding is not there for practicals. Sports and extracurricular activities were been mentioned by me in the above questions.

Hostel Facilities :

When we got admitted to the college, the hostel just renovated and the infrastructure is good and it's very cheap just 150rs per year. Toilets and bathrooms are a major issue. Every facility is available in the hostel and events are there for every festival.

Alumni/Alumna :

The alumni network and senior students are very helpful in nature. They provide proper guidance for getting a brighter future. The alumni network provide a scholarship for students eligible according to their criteria.

Admission :

There is an examination named MHT-CET(applicable only for colleges in Maharashtra). As my JEE exam got spoiled I opted towards MHT-CET. I got a score of 103/200. I filled the CAP round forms. There were 5 rounds. First of all, before the rounds, we've to fill the form in which we've to fill the name of the colleges that we desire to get admitted. And at the time of the rounds, if the criteria of the colleges fit according to your rank(obtained from the marks you scored in the exam), then you'll be allowed to that particular institution.

Faculty :

I'll be talking just about my departmental faculty. There are hardly 1-2 members in the faculty that has real knowledge about the subject they are teaching to, and others are just there for earning money. They don't know even a thing about that particular subject and when it comes to the exam, they put such questions that they too don't know. We've to prepare all the syllabus by self-studying but it all goes to vain when we see the exam papers. And then comes the end semester exams. If we think we've written a lot we'll get 40-50/60 marks, the dept gives the topper one about 25-30/60. This is just regarding my dept. Other departments don't do so.

Placement Experience:

Students from the 7th semester onwards are eligible for campus placements. Core Biomedical companies like GE, Medtronics, biosense etc and IT companies like TCS, JIO, INFOSYS, CAPGEMINI etc Recruit Biomedical Engineers. Most Biomedical Students prefer Masters over placements. 80 percent of students from selected candidates get placed. I will go for Placements and I will get into post graduation after clearing GATE 2023.

Remarks:

Location is most likely a factor for me. It is closed to my home. And the another factor is that, Different colleges offer different programs with their curriculum. For example, as an Engineering student, I had a set of classes that I was required to take, with little deviation apart from electives.

Placement Experience:

I haven't experienced placements yet. but yes the deserving students get internship every year. The whole staff of this college is very nice.

I would say that there are many other good colleges in pune for mechanical engineering , as the cut off of this colldge is low so students not willing to compromise on the branch can take admission here without any second thought .
