Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum of the Electrical branch in Thapar is good as they also take us on industrial visits which enhances our learning of the theoretical and practical concepts. It gives a better realization of the courses studied and how the power sector works. As we get to visit the industry, we are better at knowing how things in the power system work. The improvements that can be made in the Course Curriculum and Teaching Methods can include mentoring sessions to pay attention to the mental and physical health of the students and also there should be interactive classes and doubt sessions to whom we can clarify our doubts. The frequency and timing of exams are okay and not perfect as they schedule the quizzes the last week before semester exams and also in one day the number of quizzes is more than 1. The major college events and the annual fest are also scheduled one week before the semester exams. It gets hectic to manage that last week before semester exams.
Internships Opportunities :
Several companies visit the college for the recruitment of students for internships and full-time roles and also offer good packages according to the roles offered. JPMC offered a 1 lac stipend, Expedia offered a 35K stipend, Accenture offered a 70K stipend, Salesforce offered a 1lac stipend, Amazon offered a 1 lac stipend and many more companies offered stipend of more than 50K per month. The companies want to know your knowledge about the skills by looking at your projects. So, it is very much essential to work on your projects and build outstanding projects to stand out from the crowd.
Placement Experience :
From semester 6th, the students are eligible to sit for the campus placements. The major companies that visit the campus every year are JP Morgan and Chase and Co., Salesforce, Expedia, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Intuit, BlackRock, and many more. The highest offer last year was 60 lacs and the average package was 14 lacs according to the stats mentioned on the official website. Out of the students who sit for the campus placements, 75% of them get offers from the companies. I am planning to work in corporate for 2-5 years and then start a startup of my own.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The tuition fee structure is available on the official website and differs from branch to branch. The tuition fees for each year are revised every year and the rate of hikes is about 5%. The complete cost of my education would land somewhere around 21 lacs in total without availing of any scholarship from the college. There are three types of scholarship schemes available for students: the first one is through your AGPA (Merit cum means), the second one is for poor financial condition students and the third one is the alumni scholarship(Alumni scholarship). Under these scholarships, there are multiple financial aid scholarships provided which can be availed by any student. I have availed many scholarships from the college. Recently I got an on-campus opportunity offered by JP Morgan Chase & Co. as an SDE intern with a stipend of 75K per month.
Campus Life :
The annual cultural fest is called Saturnalia which is one of the biggest fests of north India. Saturnalia is held in November every year and several famous artists perform at our fest. The technical fest is called Orion which is held in February every year and focuses on technical awareness among the students and multiple speaker sessions from big companies. The sports fest is called Urja and it focuses on the involvement of the students in sports as well. Thapar's library is one of the most beautiful libraries in the world due to its exceptional infrastructure. The library offers several copies of each book and books of each genre are available in the library. One can also get the books issued for one month. The courses are taught using electronic media such as a projector and mic to cater to the students. Each classroom is air-conditioned to provide a better environment in the classroom. There are ample number of clubs and societies in college to enhance the social network.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel facility is very good as the rooms are well furnished and air-conditioned. The hostel rooms are spacious and as there are several hostels you can opt for different every semester. Non-AC rooms are also available in some hostels. The cleaning service is offered by the aunties regularly. The washrooms are clean and tidy as regular cleanup is maintained. The mess food is moderate and they also provide variety in the mess foods the menu is also changed every month to keep track of the student's needs. If you opt for the hostel facility then it is mandatory to opt for the mess. The hostel forms are out by the end of every semester to get the allocation done before the start of the next semester hassle-free. I did not rent a PG to date.
Admission :
Boards and the JEE entrance exam are the two ways to get admission into Thapar University. Regardless of your rank, if you are applying through boards, you must have taken the JEE exam to apply to Thapar. Students with a maximum one-year academic gap following their 12th board exams or those who finished their 12th grade in the same year. You can find the application on Thapar's website, thapar.edu. The website contains all the details regarding application fees and the deadlines. Students from Punjab have a separate reservation in addition to the general reservation that applies across the rest of India. If you are eligible to avail the reservation benefits then you can get into the top branches with low marks in boards or JEE. Exam frequency and scheduling are okay, as annual fests and events sometimes take place a week before the semester exams. One area for improvement could be the elimination of the reservation system for Punjabi students, as it negatively impacts peer quality.
