Remarks :
Overall, I have a very good experience with the college in these 3 years and I'm yet to see other aspects of the college. I particularly love the theme parties we organize in the college, like, last month we hosted Italian theme party and our teachers were quite supportive. The area near my college is quite peaceful and so I have a good time, when we are free.
Entrance Preview :
I had to give NCHMCT JEE( National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology Joint Entrance Examination) and I got a rank of around 12000. Thus by online counselling process, I got IHM Bathinda as my college, where I had to report for submitting all the documents. There was no interview process for the admission as it was solely based on merit. I always wanted to pursue my career in something non-academic and had an inclination towards cooking, so my father suggested me to take up this course.
Course Curriculum Overview :
This course is quite good because hospitality industry is the fastest growing business in the world. This course is all about practical learning apart, along with basic academic requirements. We have dedicated 2 hours lab for various subjects and it is actually the fun time. I'm in the first year right now so no as such elective subject yet for me. I don't know about research initiatives if any taken up by college.
Internships Opportunities :
Yes. College does help students in getting internships by hosting internship drive. I'm still in my first year, so I'm yet to get an internship but from what I've heard from my seniors, they love their time at the hotels. Their experience was quite good as they got to know many things about the real-life problems in the hotels. I don't know about average stipend.
Placement Experience :
Placement scenario of our college is very good. All students get placement by the end of the year. Many hotels, like, The Taj Group Hotel, Oberoi Hotel, The Grand Hotel, to name a few, have visited our college for campus recruitment. Average package varies as per the profile of students.
College Events :
The college does host various events like fresher's party, Farewell party, festival celebration, etc. They are quite good and everyone participates in it, somewhere or the other. I cannot comment upon average footfall but, it may be close to 400 people because there are no other colleges nearby for students to come here. So, college students participate in themselves. They are very well organized because its only about managing college students.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
My college fee is Rs.57500 per semester that makes it 1.15 Lakh a year. This fee includes everything. like exam fee, ingredients, kitchen facilities, etc. This fee is very just because the facilities one is getting in the labs throughout the semester is quite expensive. Uniform was to be purchased from outside. So, all in all, the fee is quite just. Some students who do not belong from a financially strong background may not find the fee affordable.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Yes, college does provide some scholarship scheme, of which, I'm not aware. I haven't availed any scholarship facility. The college doesn't help anyone in getting any loan as it is a government college.
Campus Life :
Since the college is completely based on hotel field, we do have extracurricular activities like dance and music going on in the college, by the students themselves. I haven't joined those groups as such. the facilities provided by the college for these activities is quite good. College authorities take us to hotels for ODC.
Hostel Facilities :
There are sharing rooms in the college hostel. One room is shared by three students which makes it chaotic at times. I live outside the college campus., about 2 km away from the college. I live in a double sharing room with my cousin senior and we have to pay Rs.1500 per head. The food is quite okayish at my PG.
Alumni/Alumna :
I have a very good interaction with my seniors as they guide me in every possible way, from real time hotel issues to academic help. Yes, there is some platform for student-alumni interaction and I don't know much details about it.
Exam Structure :
Practicals make us feel very tired. We have to stand around 4hours continuously daily in the kitchens. Having labs on daily basis makes our entire schedule hectic and we feel sleepy by the end of the day. Exams are a chill culture as we get ample time to prepare for exams.
Faculty :
The faculty is very much qualified and experienced in their field of subjects. They teach in a very interactive way by giving real-life examples related to hotels. They do give us real-time situations for us to do the analysis which is very good. Overall, I can say, the standard of teaching is quite good. People think Government colleges teachers are not good, but I'm lucky to have such teachers.
