- Placement team.
- Exam pattern. It is very rote learning oriented; at least for my branch.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I did not choose Textile engineering. I wanted to get into IIT Delhi and Textile was the only branch for which my rank was enough so I chose that. I had no affinity for the course. The faculty is comprised of PHD scholars. All of them have published various papers. The student-faculty ratio is about 100:1. The teaching method is quite modern and has become even more so with the advent of COVID. The professor teaches with pre-prepared PPT Decks and animations. Whiteboard is seldom used. The first minor exams are 1.5 months post-start of the semester. Major exams are at the end of the semester at end of 4 months.
Internships Opportunities :
The internship opportunities provided by IIT Delhi are what makes it stand apart from other colleges including another tier 2 IITs. Almost all the companies that come for placements come for internships. The idea behind this is to hire people, try them out and then give them a PPO based on their performances. The stipend is again one of the highest at any university in India. The stipend is usually the same as the placement monthly package with additional accommodation and travel perks.
Placement Experience :
Students sit for placements in their 4th year after completing 6 semesters. All the top companies across all various sectors come for placements. These sectors include Consulting, Quant, Coding, Tech, Analytics, ML, Management etc. The number of companies on campus exceeds 300. The number of offers has not been disclosed as of now. The highest package for Quant was over 4 CR. In consulting it is 18 Lac INR. Analytics has similar packages as Consulting. My plans after getting my degree are initially to Work for a couple of years and then probably start a startup.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees for B.Tech students are not very high and are at 1 Lac per semester. The hostel and mess fees are separate and optional. For opportunities for scholarships and financial assistance, IIT Delhi offers a plethora of opportunities. Our IITD mail constantly receives emails for scholarships. These are for various sectors of society. Like, EWS, PWD, OBS, SC, ST etc. Other than this the alumni of IITD keep releasing scholarships.
Campus Life :
IIT Delhi UNLIKE POPULAR OPINION has a relatively light academic load. The institute and its setup give the students various opportunities to grow personally and holistically. We have a defined structure for different clubs. These include both technical clubs and cultural clubs. These clubs are run properly and are active yearlong with various competitions and events; both internal and external. Sports facilities are state of the art and we are provided with amenities for all sports. Each hostel has indoor sports including TT, Pool, Fusball etc. Each hostel also has a gym. The Cult. fest of IITD; Rendezvous is Asia's largest fest and sees a footfall of over 1,50,000. The technical fest Tryst also is one of the best in terms of events and engagement opportunities. All the clubs, college journals etc. are run by student boards.
Hostel Facilities :
I live in the hostel. The mess is above average. The food is good not like what is displayed in pop culture. The menu lacks a properly balanced diet. The menu doesn't have enough fibre and at times becomes repetitive even though the food is above average. The rooms provided vary in size depending on the number of people in the room. An average 1-person room is 9t.*18ft. A metallic bed is provided as a cupboard and a dresser. Every room has a window with a facility for the curtain. The registration process for hostels is done when we are asked to opt for a hostel if we want while finishing our admission process for IIT Delhi.
Admission :
The admission process is via the counselling platform provided by JoSSA. There is an entrance exam and is called the JEE Advanced which has a preliminary exam called the JEE Mains. The application process for the examination was via the NTA website. Closing Cut Off below which getting admission into IIT Delhi is not possible for JEE Advanced was about 6000 for the Textile department.
