Remarks :
Call me biased, but I think the college prepares you well for the industry in terms of discipline and rigor. if you can handle the first year at IIMA, you can pretty much handle anything in life.
Entrance Preview :
CAT 99. 52% I opted for IIMA as it is the best MBA college in the country I had calls from IIMC, IIMI, and IIMK but converted to IIMA and IIMK. Went to IIMA finally.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Case-based curriculum inspired by Harvard Business School. This can be a strength as it models real-life situations very well and borrows from multi-dimensional subject learning. We are expected to read the theory ourselves prior to class. We will not be spoon-fed.
Internships Opportunities :
I went to DHL in Brussels, Belgium. I got 2600 euros per month in addition to airfare, accommodation and public transport pass. In India, stipends were typically in the range of Rs. 50K-Rs. 1 lac.
Placement Experience :
Coming out of recession, placements were a challenge. the top 30 students get a shot at consulting and banking jobs whereas the others have to fight it out through ugly group discussions. As such, the cohort system was introduced in my batch as a pilot and was successful in finding a good fit between interest and openings.
College Events :
Chaos is the annual cultural fest. We had Mohit Chauhan and Sonu Nigam in 1st year and 2nd year respectively. Confluence is a technical festival and has eminent speakers from India and abroad visiting.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
It was 12 lacs for the 2 years during my time. It is a reasonable figure to sustain the infrastructure and faculty. Moreover, within 2 years of graduating, we are able to pay off the loan. Nobody is denied admission due to lack of funds.
Fees and Financial Aid :
Andhra Bank offered the least interest rate. SBI usually charges a premium and is best avoided. However, SBI has the convenience of being within the campus.
Campus Life :
Very competitive campus life. Academics is the single most important thing and every student is a topper from their undergraduate days. There are plenty of sports and other opportunities such as dance for those who are interested.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel is organized in dorms. We don't have to share our dorm rooms so we get adequate privacy. Mess food is decent, don't expect the luxury you got at home.
Alumni/Alumna :
This is where IIMA really scores above other campuses. We have over 50 years of alums in the industry who always are willing to help out younger alums.
Exam Structure :
10% class participation, 20% midterm, 20% quizzes, and about 50% for the end term examination. This is good because it encourages ongoing effort and not slogging just before the exam.
Faculty :
1 of the pillars of IIMA is the faculty. Very strong faculty, who are at the top of their profession and stalwarts in their field. They are always accessible and willing to discuss current events just as much as course content.
